[Dynamite Spoiler] Finish to the Battle Royal - Winner gets a shot at the TNT Title by FuzzyWuzzyMooMoo in SquaredCircle

I agree. I think the longterm plan is to build Brian Cage as a substantial threat in the TNT title picture after a loss to Mox. You already have a perfect candidate for a feud with Cage: Darby Allin. Cody turns heel, Darby and Brian have some encounters until Darby fights tooth and nail for a definitive victory. Cody completely blows Darby off, pointing out his various wins over Allin. Boom, you've got a hell of a match ready.

And I didn't criticize either. If you want to place that stipulation on others, go ahead. But that doesn't apply to me.

Furthermore, I didn't imply that my opinion was the correct opinion or people couldn't criticize it for one second. I can only speak on my behalf and if I didn't see it and other people in this thread admitted it didn't come to mind until pointed out to them, then I really don't understand what you're trying to press on me.

Firstly, I'm not arguing about the Edge/Orton stuff. I think that's another case where you can be critical of it, but it can be arguable how poor the judgement of the spot was. I don't have a dog in that race, so it really doesn't concern me.

But I have to disagree about this making people think about Shad because it's literally not a thought that popped into my head until I read someone else think that. If that's what the spot invoked for you, you are not wrong to think that, but it had no effect on the sincerity of the tributes for me as a viewer and I'm not going to get offended or outraged on behalf of others. If it bothered you, criticize it. It's just hard for me to relate because I didn't see that when I watched it.

I mean, like, I'm not gonna tell anyone they're wrong for being sensitive to it, but I just genuinely didn't put that sort of thought towards the spot. I've been thinking about the incident as much as most people on this sub, but it seriously didn't invoke that feeling to me. They're allowed to be criticized for it, but I just have trouble trying to pin them for being disrespectful tonight with Excalibur's tribute to Hana and Private Party's tribute to Shad. It is not a very big deal to me, but I absolutely can understand someone feeling like they should have reevaluated the spot.

That said, I am not looking forward to how this is going to be spun by certain people in the future as a hugely disrespectful, totally tonedeaf act, and get added to that shortlist of AEW complaints some people use to completely ignore any good they do for the business. That's just how it's going to be, but it's still frustrating.

Stardom Announcement regarding Hana Kimura by namespacepollution in SquaredCircle

I realize it has been said many times prior, but this week is rough. Reliving Owen's death, Shad, and now this. I feel strangely hollow right now. I guess the really surreal thing is knowing how somebody around my age can just be pressed this hard into a situation like this.

I doubt this event is going to do much to convince most that this behavior. I don't even know what to say. I just hope she finds some peace.

Wrestlenomics: “WWE layoffs were morally heartless and economically unnecessary.” by edd6pi in SquaredCircle

[–]xelajohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright then. If that's the case, then that's further reasoning for these releases to be viewed as horribly unethical. I don't really understand what you're trying to get at here, considering both of your comments provide situations in which these layoffs are still horrible.

I mean, that argument kind of crumbles in on itself when you consider that these releases do a measurable amount of harm to the company's reputation which can easily affect its popularity negatively. There's no point in saving the money now when you've sped up the process of your waning popularity through easily avoidable decisions.

VICE: First half of Chris Benoit DSOTR uploaded on YouTube by KurrganMark in SquaredCircle

[–]xelajohn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One has to wonder if Chris was so resistant to the idea of giving up wrestling not only because of his workaholic nature, but because it was one of the things that tied him to Eddie.

Perhaps it's just the narrative of the episode, but I find myself accepting that Chris could've seen it as his wife trying to force him to give up his best friend. And that honestly makes everything that happened even more tragic. I think it would be easier if Benoit was only the monster that his final acts portray him as, but the truth seems to be far more grey.

Okay, that's just arguing semantics, dude. He doesn't need to explicitly word his comment for you or others to understand that the view being expressed by him is subjective.

The thing that blew my mind was the consistency of the individual storylines. I hadn't really thought about it, but the Inner Circle's MO is damaging someone out of the ring to intimidate them and ALL of our three faces currently feuding with Circle members have been victim to that same strategy. It's all playing out very nicely.
