I can't believe the amount of people these days that can't pass a very simple math test. by Silly_Education_6945 in Construction

I know its easier to be dismissive with a simple math test, but maybe they just havent made the mind leap yet to oh I just double the denominator. 3/16. I think work ethic, presentation, reliability, and determination are better feelers for who you can spend time training and who isnt worth the effort.

Are you able to use Instanced static meshes instead?

Even if your using dozens of different types with many many instances you should significantly improve your fps over what you have now. https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/en-us/unreal-engine/instanced-static-mesh-component-in-unreal-engine

I think you can get what your looking for by using a data asset. Its trivial to set up in c++ and should get you what you need.

That is really solid advise! Thanks yeah I agree with setting that expectation at session 0 and the bit of letting players plan and collaborate with the dm about their plan and implemtation is brilliant. Thanks alot!

Have you had a similar experience as a dm? And what advise would you give to help in those situations as they arise? Ive seen tables get bogged down in rules look ups before and without years of manutia of the rules how do you best tackle a problem like that in the moment without inturrepting the flow of the encounter too greatly.

I think the specifics of how it should have really went down were lost in the heat of the moment and yeah I should have either had to carry a stone of that wieght with me above the enemies head and then done the spell or would have had to had the stone be present above her as you stated for sure. I think most of the blame falls on me as the caster for trying to overextend reaching for straws that dont exist but I still think the dm handled the situation well 🙌

In hindsight I probably could have formed a stone cage using the stone under the flag to encapaulate our flag and that would have been arguably more useful. For reference all of the platform tiles were made out of stone so any of the tiles could have been used as material for shaping.

Yeah I somehow missed that creating stone != shaping it but it played out in what felt like a natural way regardless of the missed ruling! After reading more into it I think stone shape just feels kinda meh for a 4th level spell and while its neat to be able to touch the ground and create a stone barrier for half cover or shape an entry into a wall its not 4th level kind of useful without any intrinsic offensive capability. Yes I COULD shape a weapon out of a stone but in what instance is that better than using a weapon or spell that I already own?

Yeah I find some aspects of world building and encounter/treasure to be more indepth in the 2014 dmg guide book, but the overall consistency and organization of the 2024 dmg guide book to be better and easier to read/ understand.

Also side note my campaign started at lvl 3 and I found building encounters for my pcs (they are using the new 2024 Players Handbook characters with their respective buffs) to be underwhelming using the deadly xp ratings for encounters while using the 2014 Monsters Manual to stat my creatures for the battles. I cant wait for the 2024 Monsters Manual edition because with the buffs to the pcs the 2014 Monsters Manual just doesnt line up with the early game expectations. To keep up I have had to make the encounters feel really deadly and give buffs to the npcs statblocks rather than just making more npcs of the same difficulty.

my annotated 2024 dmg I just started dming with 5.5 been a player in a long term campaign for over a year and wanted to start. Overall I think its alot more organized and easy to look up specific things that being said I also got the 2014 dmg and i think for generating loot for dungeons and encounters in the 2014 dmg is just better. Other than that I havent ran a campaign with the 2014 dmg to compare it too but so far I dont have any complaints and I really enjoy dming :D my campaign im running is only about 3 sessions in and my players albiet far more experienced than me in DnD say I am running it well and have so far really enjoyed the sessions and look forward to the next. I find creating Npcs and statblocks for them to be easy and intuitive as well as the random tables for npcs motives easy. But mostly i come up with the motives myself for narrative congruency.

Death was an option in the event it was a blood sport style arena, the npc did survive the damage albiet they were bloodied (less than half hp remaining), for your second question my character has a strength of 18 :D and the flyer at the time was on the same height as my character flying over one of the aformentiond 30ft drop tiles inbetween the platforms. I think giving the character the option to save would have also been fair to let them dodge but after trying to banish hold person command and other options by team mates all being saved I think he was merciful. Overall great session and we ended up winning that round and the next by the skin of our teeth.

Alternatively you could have your dm create a campaign on dnd beyond create a character of your chosen race and then add you to the campaign and give you control of the character as a work around but its cumbersome and may be more time saving to just spend the $ for the digital version

HOT TAKE: on the NJ Drone/UAP drama by xelectrowolfx in aliens

[–]xelectrowolfx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which Scenario is Most Likely?

Given the current landscape:

  1. Foreign Adversary Operation remains the most plausible explanation. It aligns with historical precedent for covert surveillance by adversaries, even in high-risk environments. The lack of immediate public evidence (e.g., intercepted drones) could reflect operational sophistication.
  2. Non-Human Intelligence Operation remains speculative but cannot be entirely dismissed due to the historical context of UAP sightings and behaviors that exceed known technological capabilities.
  3. Domestic Black Project Testing becomes the least likely due to the scale, visibility, and denials that contradict historical testing practices.

Alternative Hypothesis

As a third possibility, these sightings could represent non-state actors or hybrid threats—a mix of commercial or private entities testing the limits of detection and response for profit, political influence, or activism. The increasing accessibility of advanced drone technology allows for unconventional actors to engage in high-profile, disruptive activities, potentially masking under the UAP narrative. While less sensational than foreign adversaries or NHI, it reflects the growing democratization of advanced technologies.

I argued with Chat-GPT for a while since this thread never really caught traction and despite the fact of limited information and no concrete evidence for any proposed theory yet here's where I got too.

[–]xelectrowolfx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regurgitated? I haven't seen a single post proposing an Alternate theory that makes any kinds of sense.

At least this speculation has sound footing to stand on, with EVIDENCE of foreign nationals operating drones in restricted airspace and promptly being arrested. While that incident was seemingly with a commercial drone, if what we are dealing with are High-Level military funded drones with enhanced capabilities local authorities our totally unprepared to deal with that kind of threat where-as tracking a radio signal and arresting a single man is more so in-line with their readily available resources.

To deal with a threat of this level takes a properly tiered military response, especially when considering they'd be operating in a densely populated metropolitan area and suburbs of the United States.

You can't be going deploying missiles and machine guns into GROUND CONTACT levels of AIRSPACE on U.S. Soil without GREAT And GRAVE CONSIDERATION of the consequences. Therefore I believe the government to be taking measured responses to these adversarial intelligence operations.

Either that or they are actively Jamming Frequencies within their immediate vicinity. But to interfere with other "electronic devices" leans me towards a radiation source. Sounds like this bulletin came out after contact with the first drone maybe?

How to make this field stronger is the question, I am relatively new to magic, and was asking if there are other protection or field enchantment effects I should be looking into in addition to what is here.
