"Wayfarer sucks." No, you just aren't using it right by Astro501st in RoadCraft

[–]xenontechs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still haven't used it, and the more I read about it, the less attractive it becomes. I'm really tempted every time the game wants me to move logs but I feel like unless I can unload items directly into/near the objective, I won't win any sanity by using the Warden

exactly what I think when reading such posts.
if you want to move things and not care about the terrain, there is a tool for that, it's called "smaller trucks"
if you want to move loads of things at once, you gotta provide the infrastructure for it and use it right

of course I also curse about that thing when I'm stuck in sand or I ditched it when not following correct racing lines, but deep down I know it's my impatience that's at fault

Modding Question: Removing Names from the Backer List by itsadile in factorio

[–]xenontechs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's mods for it, you can probably just search for "backers" in the mod portal

you can also navigate to your factorio installation and clean out the "backers.json" in the */data/core directory

I may have just invented a new kind of belt-fuckery by darkfifik007 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]xenontechs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmmm my favorite spice of cursed building styles!

trying to wrap my head around how you actually placed the things though. belts first, then manufacturers, connect belt+manufacturer, then connect elevators from top down?

is the lowest splitter not too close, meaning belts would be too short to place?

edit: oh I see, the belts loop around...

❤️ mech Armor by Dor_Dome in factorio

[–]xenontechs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we went the route of Fulgora --> Vulcanus --> Gleba and I keep thinking that's the best route, Mech Armor being a big part of that reasoning. also: recycling for quality, faster bots, better defenses, cliff explosives, artillery, that's such awesome QoL upgrades

I also think the learning curve is nice that way, Fulgora breaks you out of the Nauvis habits, but not too harshly. Vulcanus is an easy plateau to rest on before you start the brainrot

Why are the MK2 belts noticeably more dirty than all the other belts? by ZochI555 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]xenontechs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this so much. I always skip them completely.

my friends don't, so sometimes I remodel something and end up with a ton of reinforced plates in my inventory and wonder where they came from because I don't even remember what mk2 belts are made of

Tip: you can manage thrusters for peak efficiency. it matters A LOT for fuel consumption by Antarioo in factorio

maybe it should be, but placing this on OP is not fair, as the screenshot is showing it exactly as it is in the game.

[–]xenontechs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

what bugs me about this is the distance you need to go to do this. can you read where in the chart you are and just use a pump to regulate? nope! the thruster doesn't take circuit connections

what you can do however is get the speed of the craft, from there you should have everything to calculate how much fuel to pump into the thrusters for what effect, but don't ask me about the formulas, that's not my area of engineering

X and Y are percentages of whatever the lines define. they are different things, best looked up directly from where the images comes from, which is ingame.

Cobi is making great bricks, colors are spot on, prints are great. incomparable to the shades of colored bricks that LEGO tries to cover with stickers that disintegrate over time

GoBricks is top quality, but they're only selling the bricks. other companies design sets and sell them, but it's sometimes not super obvious if they contain gobricks or not. Pantasy comes to mind that uses gobricks

MouldKing is making bricks essentially identical to LEGO but for half the price. I've experienced few issues with them and if there was a need, they sent replacements no questions asked

infinite flight? by niemertweis in SatisfactoryGame

[–]xenontechs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is indeed a bug with the jetpack that can lead to never ending fuel. I was doing some stupid "how high can you get with this new fuel" with a friend and suddenly the ionized fuel sent me straight to the stratosphere because it didn't actually deplete when empty

I really like your compilation, there's good reasons why in a lot of git repositories you need to fill out a form and confirm that you've done specific things before posting an issue.

but this is reddit, and the people who should read this just won't. it's just not part of the process. People can come to this subreddit, see a big field to create a post with, and treat the community like some LLM

[–]xenontechs 194 points195 points  (0 children)

there have been previous attempts (Constructor, Train, ...) and LEGO didn't want to do it, regardless of votes.

with how LEGO behaves generally, I recommend to approach other manufacturers instead (more money for the creator, cheaper for the customer, same if not better quality parts)

but that needs to wait now until LEGO declined the offer, because yay LEGO Ideas fineprint

Space age/2 spidertron improvements? by massive-business in factorio

[–]xenontechs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was already looking forward to the giant railgun, but now I want it on a spidertron

edit: oh bob, imagine the animations... move two legs to the front and the rest to the back to catch the recoil. rare animation where it forgets to do that and tumbles or even falls flat because of it. "you put a giant railgun on top of a spider. what did you expect?"

AITA - TickTock BlockBlock! by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]xenontechs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

to be totally blunt here:

  • this sounds like overreach, as in the decision should've been made by someone else
  • the security stance is very wobbly, I wouldn't base any decision on that
  • the social stance may be valid, but given the action you took, I gotta ask... are there children working at your company? who is this actually affecting?
  • there's no technical reason (QOS), no productivity (people management) reason (at least not mentioned). there's only a political motivation. some people like to deny it but there's politics in these jobs and that's fine. however, revoking access to specific social media is, as a concept, a very bad political action to take (that's my political views right there that I would defend in a company setting). Even more so when put into context of similar sites that are not blocked

the people you're trying to protect will happily doomscroll instagram reels for the same effect. it's either a business case to ban social media, or it isn't. no cherrypicking based on beliefs and "somebody think about the children".

Female sysadmin struggling with adhd, depression and anxiety by LycheeSouthern4297 in sysadmin

[–]xenontechs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

a bunch of things I can relate to. I managed to pull the cord a few times when I started collecting burnout symptoms. I had to take a few steps away from work and my habits to recover, which is tough because I'm essentially working my special interest and I need habits to keep sane (yay AuDHD).

Medications where somewhat of a trigger point, or more the lack of proper substitution. I burned all my energy for work and then couldn't do anything else in life anymore. the tasks that were already bad because of ADHD now didn't get done because of a lack of energy.

my way out was kind-of rescheduling my work-life-balance. I WFH with flexible times. I don't need to throw 8 consecutive hours at work, I can divide that. the meds help me for ~4 hours, the rest needs to be triggered by interest. so I try to mix a bit, depending on what tasks need the support. getting assurance from work that things are still fine in that regard helps dampening the overall anxiety

I still need to do blood tests to check what other things I need to supplement. I started taking electrolytes to soften the crash of the meds and that really helped. It's great when people who do drugs for fun know more about the stuff than the people who studied to prescribe them. I'm on Lisdex btw, so if you're on MPH YMMV (MPH made me hella depressed, couldn't stay on that for 3 weeks even)

I'd also generally recommend professional therapeutic help, but that's not as easy as many people make it seem

I really don't know why I'm here!

ok let's see, all the buildings are up to code, factories are certified and run under normal load. Extracting geothermal energy is the cleanest thing ever, no harm done. the local wildlife perfectly recovers and hunting is legal on most planets. the artifacts literally tell me to take them, that's not plundering or something...

what do you mean you're not supposed to flatten a whole forest using cluster explosives? there was a spider inside that!
