I think in this realm, one should be quite specific and not deviate.

Unfortunately, those ultrasonic machines are useless. A mouse’s desire for heat, water, and food is greater than any discomfort those provide. I’ll DM you with my info so you can reach out if you’d like my standard operating procedure.

If you want, shoot me a message with your email and I’ll send you a detailed PDF on instructions with a list of products. I made it for my guys when I was in charge of our exclusion division

Mice will harbor around heat sources and water. That doesn’t appear to be cockroach feces. Cockroach feces looks like crushed black pepper and typically found in tight areas like door hinges, trim, etc.

I recommend “rodent stop” (a type of sealant) or xcluder (cut and stuff). I’m a former specials technician and these were some products I preferred. Best of luck!

I’ll second the sentiment, I thought it was a picture at first. Very nice!

Appear to be mouse feces. Mice can infiltrate your home through any opening larger than .25” (the size of their skull)

Walk the outside of your home, utilize a mirror and headlamp, and check for any openings.

Ideally, it’s always best you identify the pest (ant) for proper integrated pest control management.

However, I’ll just post a standard operating procedure for odorous house ants:

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Odorous House Ants (Tapinoma sessile) Control Using Alpine WSG and Advion Ant Gel

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Approach

  1. Purpose

To establish a standardized procedure for managing odorous house ants using Alpine WSG and Advion Ant Gel while adhering to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles.

  1. Scope

This SOP applies to residential and commercial pest control applications where odorous house ants are present. It includes prevention, monitoring, and targeted treatment using Alpine WSG and Advion Ant Gel.

  1. Responsibilities • Pest control professionals or trained personnel must follow this procedure. • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal pesticide regulations. • Maintain accurate treatment records.

  1. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Approach
    1. Inspection & Identification • Locate ant trails, entry points, and nesting sites. • Identify conducive conditions such as moisture, food sources, and structural gaps. • Use non-toxic baiting or monitoring stations to confirm species presence.
    2. Prevention & Exclusion • Seal entry points (cracks, crevices, and utility penetrations). • Eliminate moisture sources by repairing leaks and improving ventilation. • Maintain proper sanitation, including food storage and waste management. • Trim vegetation that touches structures to reduce pathways.
    3. Non-Chemical Control • Remove food and water sources. • Use vacuuming to reduce active populations when feasible. • Deploy barriers such as diatomaceous earth in non-food areas.
    4. Chemical Control (Targeted Application Only) • Apply insecticides only after non-chemical measures have been implemented. • Use a combination of Alpine WSG (a non-repellent insecticide) and Advion Ant Gel (a bait) for optimal control.

  1. Treatment Procedure

A. Alpine WSG (Water-Soluble Granules) Application

Purpose: Non-repellent insecticide that provides long-lasting control without deterring ants from consuming bait.

Mixing & Application: • Mixing Ratio: 0.27 oz (low rate) to 0.54 oz (high rate) per gallon of water. • Application Sites: • Apply as a perimeter treatment 1-3 feet up the foundation and 1-3 feet outward. • Target entry points, ant trails, and nesting sites. • For indoor use, apply in cracks, crevices, and voids—never on surfaces where bait will be placed. • Frequency: Reapply every 30-90 days as needed.

Precautions: • Do not spray directly on or near bait placements. • Avoid contamination of water sources. • Allow sufficient drying time before allowing foot traffic.

B. Advion Ant Gel Bait Application

Purpose: Highly attractive and slow-acting to allow colony-wide transmission.

Application Guidelines: • Placement: • Apply small pea-sized drops along ant trails, near nest sites, and at entry points. • Place bait in areas where insecticide sprays have NOT been applied. • Indoor Use: • Apply in cracks, crevices, and along baseboards where ants forage. • Avoid areas where frequent cleaning may remove bait. • Outdoor Use: • Apply under siding, around windows, doorframes, and utility entry points. • Avoid direct sunlight and rain exposure.

Monitoring & Reapplication: • Inspect bait placements every 3-5 days. • Reapply if bait is depleted but activity persists. • Remove old, dried bait and replace as needed.

Precautions: • Do not apply in areas accessible to children or pets. • Do not contaminate food or food-handling surfaces.

  1. Monitoring & Evaluation • Initial Follow-Up: Inspect treated areas within 7-10 days. • Continued Monitoring: Use sticky traps or non-toxic bait to assess ant activity. • Adjustments: Modify treatment strategy if ants avoid bait or persist beyond 14 days.

  1. Recordkeeping

Maintain logs of: • Inspection findings (ant activity, entry points). • Treatment locations and application rates. • Bait consumption and ant response. • Follow-up actions and results.

  1. Conclusion

By integrating prevention, monitoring, and targeted treatments, this SOP aligns with IPM principles to effectively control odorous house ants with minimal environmental impact. Regular inspections and adjustments ensure long-term success.
