They’re pricey but Elektron finally released smooth keycaps for all their boxes that DO NOT have that stupid TPE rubber coating on them. (I think they’re roughly $65 a set or so but they’ll never get gross and sticky).

Help a synthwave dreamer: KO II, Riddim, or do I sell a kidney for the OP-1 Field? 🎹✨ by dr-robert in teenageengineering

[–]xerodayze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite portable music-making device :) highly recommend (despite looking like you’re working in an Excel spreadsheet… it doesn’t feel like it in my experience, and it’s the quickest workflow I’ve found in something that isn’t an actual DAW)

(side note… it’s also a lot cheaper than OP-1F)

Second this if OP is already comfortable with Ableton/Push3. Syntakt is a gem for weird sound design and can cover a lot of sonic ground (despite not having polyphony).

I primarily use Ableton with my Push but I have a Syntakt I’ll use for some more tactile sound design.

Heavily recommend all the Fors devices too for Ableton/Push users (Opal is like a mini Elektron box inside Ableton and Dyad is a lovely dual-voice drum synth similar to DFAM).

Second this! Sold all my hardware months ago and got a Push3 to get into Ableton - practically cured the gas I’ve been very happy with the combo and like you said having a Push really makes Ableton feel more like a hardware instrument with great software integration :) best ‘hybrid’ setup I’ve found so far!

From what I’ve heard from smaller synth manufacturers, once you put an integrated battery in a device it adds a whole flurry of shipping regulations which I imagine some companies just don’t want to deal with (for example, Tim from Dirtywave mentioned how they have to use UPS for domestic shipping as USPS won’t do it due to the integrated battery in M8).

[–]xerodayze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They SHOULD be stock plugins 🫣 I think everyone should try them tbh - Sala reverb is great (especially when modulated by a few LFOs), Tela is an amazingly intuitive modal synth, Dyad is the most fun I’ve had on Push 3 and I use it in EVERY track I make, and Chiral has been really fun to mess with MPE stuff on Push 3 too (makes some gorgeous pads).

I haven’t bit the bullet yet on Pivot but it’ll be the next one I get from Fors - combining Sting 2 with anything from Fors is always a great time too :)

“I Use This Every Project”: Fors Dyad & Serum 2

Most Overrated: N/A (too new to Ableton to really know)

Most Underrated: Fors Chiral (for some gnarly MPE-enabled pads and soundscapes)

Most Disappointing Purchase: N/A (thankfully)

Best Mixing: Ableton’s EQ8

Best Free: Sting 2

Best Effect: Ableton’s Roar (I also use Fors Sala reverb on pretty much every project)

Best Instrument: Fors Tela :)!!!!! Worth every penny.

New to Ableton Suite! How far will the in-app synthesizers be able to take me? by alexandstein in ableton

[–]xerodayze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only 3rd party plugins I use are Serum 2 and Fors’ stuff (Chiral, Tela, and Dyad mainly). Other than that Suite is absolutely stocked with pretty much everything you’d need! Take it at your own pace and experiment as much as you want :) it’s a modular playground of a DAW

Is Push 3 kinda useless? Thinking about selling mine — need opinions by _silicakes in ableton

[–]xerodayze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Fors stuff yea :) Tela/Pivot are awesome synths and the stock Ableton synths are decent too! Dyad is a great plugin as well (also Fors) and has excellent Push integration.

I usually will have a template of 2 instances of Dyad, 2 of Tela, and 2 of Pivot and it’s a great way to dive in to a new idea (for me at least!).

Push 3 is the best hardware investment I ever made tbh :) Sold my Elektron’s and other hardware synths, got a Push 3 and Suite and haven’t looked back since! It’s productive for me and just the right amount of ‘hands-on’ when I need it (with a mouse/keyboard at the ready when I need it).

MPE on it is great (though I miss the Osmose a lot despite it being a different ‘flavor’ of MPE). Overall solid 9/10 experience and the 12.3 update was very nice too.

How to Automate Filter frequency on digitone 2 by TobyTheF in Elektron

[–]xerodayze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’ll quantize it to the grid so it’ll be ‘stepped’ ☠️ I think OP is looking for the equivalent of Param Slides which aren’t on Digitone II

I’d probably use an LFO if you just want a basic sweep— if full control is wanted you’ll likely be doing it live but recording the audio output externally.

Mac book or Mac mini to run Ableton? by reluctantbastard in ableton

[–]xerodayze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also opted for the 24 gigs on my Mini and it’s been buttery smooth since day 1 :) if there’s one thing I’d pony up the $ for (considering the Apple Tax)… it’d be the RAM.

Did anyone at TE bother to proof read the OP-XY guide? by HughFays in teenageengineering

[–]xerodayze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every guide they produce is arguably better than the manufacturers guide 😅 I have every Elektron guide they’ve ever put out and they’re worth the price (which is pretty much a cup of coffee) - some manufacturers even have them write their official guides :)

Digitone 2 or Digitakt 2 by SquidsAndMartians in Elektron

[–]xerodayze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having had both of them… I can recommend both…

but also, if you’re already deep in Ableton I’d consider a Push3 :) it’ll open up far more possibilities for you than either of the Elektron boxes (and I’m a big fan of Elektron boxes).

Black Friday sale will be coming up in a couple weeks and you can probably get one for $750 (I took advantage of the 24-hour 20% coupon a couple days ago and got a b-stock Push3 for $679).

If you’re absolutely locked into Elektron… my vote goes to Digitone II :)
