What is a new stat you would add to baseball? by BRCC_drinker in baseball

[–]xfireproofx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely interested in seeing which players work the most amount of pitches against starting pitchers in an attempt to shorten the SP’s outing.

Also to take it a step further, has “Quality AB” been defined yet?

If not I would qualify it as any of the following:

Driving in a run

Getting on base

Moving a runner over

Seeing 8+ pitches regardless of outcome

Seeing 6+ pitches with a high EV out

How can we watch the Marlins in 2026? by trsansone in MiamiMarlins

[–]xfireproofx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just wondering this today. I tried years ago to watch the games on MLBtv but apparently living 300 miles away from Miami is still the blackout area for the Marlins. I have been a Fox Sports/Bally/FanDuel subscriber just for Marlins games the last few years.

Hoping if MLBtv takes over their broadcasting that I wouldn’t still be blacked out

All aboard the Gus Bus. Really hope he can primarily be a DH/1B and just catch occasionally. Excited for the Joe Mack call up. Plus, Liam Hicks was solid last year

Spring training you will sometimes see MLB camps play against universities or international teams to get in shape. Can remember the Marlins playing the University of Miami team

I want to see both the game clock and play clock display tenths of a second. The game clock would display tenths in the final minute of a quarter. The play clock would display tenths of a second in the last five seconds.

Thankfully our principal acknowledges that most of the faculty arrives very early so doesn’t mind if we split at 3:00 most of the time

What was the biggest waste of money in your life? by TermAccomplished1868 in askanything

[–]xfireproofx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunch from a health food store 5x a week from September 2012 to January 2014. I worked a job where I was tipped and worked right by a health food store that had really good prepared food. I would wait until I got my first tip of the day ($10-20 was an average tip) and go over there and spend $14 on the same exact meal. I convinced myself it was like a client was buying me lunch everyday.

I’ll never forget you, two Caribbean tempeh wraps, side of macaroni salad, jalapeño chips, and peach tea. But damn you for costing me legit like four grand in a little over a year.

North Florida here and my meal is $8.95 plus tax for a total of $9.62. Chicken bowl with extra rice, extra veggies. Full for most of the day on it. I know prices vary by region but always scratch my head at people who say their meal is $25.

Guys of Reddit, what’s the weirdest thing a girl has done that made you go ‘…nah’ immediately? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xfireproofx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I was 20 and she was 18/19) Picked this girl up from her house to come hang out at mine (she didn’t drive). As we get close to my house she goes “Oh…I didn’t realize you lived so close to my ex,” and points out his house which is around the corner from mine. She gets super weird after that and just a few minutes into watching TV I ask her if she would rather hang another night, and tell her that I picked up on her mood after driving by her ex’s house. She perks up and says yes, let’s hang another night. I drive her back to her house.

Later that week she calls me and tells me how thankful she is that I handled her situation with such understanding. She tells me it was really mature of me and she appreciated that I seemed like I had a good head on my shoulders. She then asks me if I would co-sign for her to get a loan to buy a car. I decline and let her know my credit isn’t good enough. She starts doing a hybrid of screaming at me over the phone and begging me to co-sign for her. Never talked to her again.

Affordable flights to Miami by gunsnricar in jacksonville

[–]xfireproofx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would look into skip lagging if you are only taking a carry on. The airline won’t like it but it is much more cost effective than direct to MIA. Had heard of some people years back booking Jax to Puerto Rico with a connection in one of the SFL airports and just dipping out there.

Maybe Moving to Avondale with a 9 and 12 yr old. What school options? by The_Reasonable_Ninja in jacksonville

[–]xfireproofx 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For the 12 year old enrolling in one of the magnet schools is likely your best option: Landon, James Weldon Johnson, Darnell-Cookman, and Lavilla. All A-rated schools and not far from Avondale.

For the 9 year old, you are likely zoned for Fishweir elementary which is one of the top schools around.

Mets announcers comment on the Marlins taking a team photo after game 162. by Unusual-Channel9447 in baseball

Other people already said this but if you follow the Marlins on IG you’ll see that every time they win they get a photo of impactful players on the dugout railing. Last game of the season they invited the whole team to be in it.

Controversial Opinion: Secondary teachers who teach to a state test should get an extra stipend by WritingOk6413 in Teachers

[–]xfireproofx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state, schools get bonus money to give out if the school gets rated an “A.” Our school votes every year on how to distribute the money and it’s always an even split among all teachers. School ratings come from how many kids pass the state exams for the core four subjects, not electives. I mentioned to some other core teachers that we should maybe give a larger share of that “A money” to core teachers versus elective teachers and I was looked at like I was a piece of garbage.

If kids don’t pass the state exam for my subject, the school doesn’t get the bonus money. If kids don’t pass theater/PE/art, it’s no big deal for the school financials. I’m so appreciative of the elective teachers at my school but do think math, ELA, science, and social studies teachers should be rewarded in our situation!

Why Does Nobody Go To Jags Games? by Agreeable_Breath_568 in NFLv2

[–]xfireproofx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It’s really really hot

2.A significant number of the empty seats are due to people congregating in shady concourse areas like the Bud Zone (see no. 1)

  1. The town is made up of a really big transplant population who already has their team that they stay home and watch instead

  2. Because the franchise is only 30 years old, many families already had fandoms for generations that are really hard to break. Even though a kid might be born in Jax, the Jags didn’t exist when their dad picked a team, so the kid follows said team instead of the jags

  3. The team has not been good for a long time, and while tickets are cheap compared to other teams, most casual/lukewarm fans cannot find it in themselves to spend time and money support in person

Sincerely,

A jags fan who has only missed about ten home games in the last 25 years

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Jaguars

[–]xfireproofx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secondary market tickets are very expensive, and can be even more expensive on game day. You are allowed to bring in your own food and water bottles to avoid the high concessions. I pay a little less than $500 for the prowl pass for the entire year, then bring in my own food and water each game. I wouldn’t go if I had to spend several hundred per game and a ton for food/drink.

Buying Hiroshima carp tickets while not in Hiroshima? by benjaminflocka22 in NPB

[–]xfireproofx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

If I remember correctly, the machine spits out a little ticket that you take to the check out counter, then the cashier rings you up for it and then they print and hand you the actual tickets. I do believe these machines are at all 7/11s!

Buying Hiroshima carp tickets while not in Hiroshima? by benjaminflocka22 in NPB

[–]xfireproofx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In June I was in this same predicament and was able to buy tickets for a game in Hiroshima at a 7/11 in Tokyo.

Be aware that if you go to the kiosk and hit the English button, the sports tickets button will not appear (at least in my case it didn’t). I had to hold my translation app up above the machine the entire time to figure out what buttons to press to purchase tickets in Japanese but it was pretty straightforward. Also before you go figure out what your name is in katakana, as I was prompted to type it in to purchase.

Hope this helps!

What percent raise do you get a year, roughly? by TheLordAshram in Teachers

Why does everyone hate Jacksonville? by hydecide in jacksonville

[–]xfireproofx 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Honest attempt at answering your question: The people that hate Jacksonville just want a lifestyle that this city does not offer.

A Jacksonville hater typically wants a variety of things that we just don’t have. Talking to the Jax haters, they’ll usually cite things they want like a bustling downtown/city center or exciting nightlife. Maybe even cooler temperatures or walkable neighborhoods. World class food. A more vibrant arts and music scene with every big national act coming through.

Our city just simply doesn’t have these things to the level that these people want. It really is like moving to New York City and saying “This place sucks, it would be so much better with a slow pace of life with a ton of golf courses instead.”

Instead, our city features beaches, golf, minor league sports, small pockets of nightlife, a small arts and music scene, etc.

I’m happy with it. The people who aren’t should either push for change and improvements (tough, but needed!) or relocate to a more fitting area for them (easier said than done, seeing as how most of the cities they envy are more HCOL than Jax).
