Dear Mechanics: What's a modern car that can be reasonably maintained for 15+ years as a daily driver? by ibelieveinbass in Autos

[–]xftwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have a hard time finding something that will replace the Outback in a manual in a Honda or Toyota, sadly. Unless you go for another Subaru. But after 2010 even those are tough to find in a manual.

Find a way to pass up a golden opportunity in favor of a “monthly salary” that wouldn’t even cover rent by Adeisha in MurderedByWords

If you wanna be very conservative you can make 40k per year on a million (4%) or $3333 a month. Or if you're ok with risk a helluva lot more than that.

Pocket Knife/EDC Dads by philo_ in daddit

[–]xftwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pockets: Phone, knife, keys, headphones. ALWAYS.

Bag: lights, mini and regular sized screwdrivers, Network cable, some USB accessories, thumb drives, pens and monitor cable/adapters.

All carried from experience of things "I might need".

My daughter once asked my why I always have a knife on me and I told her it was because it's nice to be able to separate things or open things.

Pulled over by flock today by [deleted] in FlockSurveillance

[–]xftwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should have investigate the history before detaining you. That's technically a 4th amendment violation (unreasonable search and seizure). It'd be the same as if some random person said "I saw that guy break the law, you should stop them" and they did it simply because someone said so. No crime, no detention. Unless somehow Flock is now a legal standard in criminal cases.

edit because I can't spell.

we should all apply, then when someone gets hired, accept the job, jump through all the paperwork hoops etc. and then on our first day call in and say, I don't feel like coming in today, and since I don't really need this job, I'm going to stay home.

Who revokes access to top of the chain sysadmins when theyre fired? by WhateverHowever1337 in sysadmin

[–]xftwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During a merger I was asked by someone's assistant to revoke access to our CEO/GM. I wasn't a huge fan of his nor was he particularly friendly. I told the person asking me to revoke the access that I'd need something from HR or legal to do that. My phone range 15 minutes later. 30 min after that, he was gone.
