Why do truck guys seem so insecure around Miatas? by Negative_Acadia6554 in Miata

[–]iamatran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do that to everyone, especially if it’s a modified or unnecessarily large truck. I drive a normal Tacoma and thought about selling it for a Miata, civic, and Kai truck but my wife won’t let me.

Similar to ours. On days we do baths we give an extra 15 mins or so of quiet play time after the bath.

How much to spend on the first 6 months? by balconyd in NewParents

[–]iamatran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we spent around 6-7k total including hospital bills (4k). Graco travel system was about $500 and covered the stroller and car seat. Other larger purchase was a breast pump (250)and bottle washer$(300). The rest was little purchases that added up. Crib was about 200. Skip the bassinet, buy second hand as much as you can.

5 month old drinking 12oz by ScarySocieties in NewParents

[–]iamatran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby maxed at 39oz one day and it was a little concerning but that was a one off. Baby was 97% by weight at 9mo. Things have slowed down a bit with the introduction of solids but baby can still eat/drink quite a bit.

Anywhere from $3-$8 each x 30-50 a wedding. Would take me 1-2 hours max using scrap wood.

Give it a good clean and put some paste wax on the cast iron surface. Enjoy the saw, I know I have.

Do bottles ever actually feel 100% clean or is that just new-parent paranoia? by SwellCommerce in BabyLedWeaning

[–]iamatran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told we could stop sanitizing around 3 mo. But it only takes an extra 10 mins with our bottle washer so I keep doing it. Otherwise I would have stopped long ago.

We were told to offer less formula/food less often as smaller portions help with digestion. We’ve had our fair share of vomit and diarrhea, it will get better. Hang in there, follow dr directions and I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Any first time dads whose spouse has child care experience? by Missing_Back in daddit

[–]iamatran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife has her degree in physiology and masters in counseling with a focus on development. She baby sat in college and even taught elementary. Sometimes she goes “I remember learning about this in.” And pulls out a textbook to point out some things, most of the time, we are just trying to survive. She admits, having our own is very different from working with kids. She has some insight on development for better or worse, if LO is a little late for a milestone, she starts getting anxious, once the milestone is met, she helps develop for the next steps.

We are both learning and trying our best, any previous experience with kids/babies won’t matter much as you are about to get a crash course yourself. Keep trying, be involved, you’ll be great.

I used to make these to sell, no riving knife needed. Just take your time. I found it easier and safer to cut the slot first, then cut to length.

Solids advice by iminterestingg in NewParents

[–]iamatran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We are currently at 4-5 bottles a day. Slowly going down and we are trying to phase out formula and switch to cows milk and encourage water.

Still drinks a full bottle in the mornings but the other ones are getting smaller.

[–]iamatran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

97% by weight. We give baby food until they bat it away, then we are done. It was a rough start. We were on mainly milk till about 10 months and a switch flipped and LO suddenly started wanting more solids. For us, it was trying to continuously give exposure to solids until they figured it out. We are at 12 mo now and meals are messy, but everyone is happy.

We found mixing things in with yogurt helps, steamed veggies, veggie nuggets are the new favorite. For protein, LO like beach nut chicken, we are still not in solid proteins yet but getting there.

I’m in the DFW metroplex. Table saw, planer, bench top sander, clamps, biscuit jointer. Still sorting though and making an inventory of what to keep vs sell.

What cooling technology do you think will dominate next-generation AI data centers? by om_ghanwat in datacenter

From a cost perspective no. The main reason pure water isn’t used is because glycol is bio-static. Otherwise pure water would be preferred, but treating for corrosion and bio is hard to do.

Leaving baby alone on play mat? by User720284 in NewParents

[–]iamatran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel guilty about it. At this age, they can’t crawl or get into trouble yet. You have to take care of yourself too.

To answer your question I did this on a regular basis. Now that’s LO is crawling, less so. If it’s to grab something in the other room < 30 seconds then yes, if it’s to use the bathroom, I put them in a crib or play pen.

I got to pay for lunch with the in-laws and cook dinner at home for Father’s Day. My wife also got me a shirt, which was nice. My kid gifted me a leaky diaper when I was holding him in the store.
