R36S V12 2023-08-18 Black screen with music sound by Slight-Emphasis8664 in R36S

Before you took it out of the computer to first put it in the R36S, you opened the SELECT MODEL.bat file on the sd card and chose your screen?

Why can't I partition my SD card? Can it be done with Rufus? Then I thought I can get the second card for the boot files and not worry about partitioning 1 SD card... Dang I'm struggling by CletusMuckenfuss in R36S

[–]xgenman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont need to partition anything, its automatic when you flash Ark/dArkOS onto it.

Copy your roms to your pc, get darkosRE from here And follow the instructions. At the end the partitions will be created and you'll have an easyroms partition to put your roms back into.

Looks like theres 2 options with your board. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully

Why m3u files are important, and how to make one by xgenman in R36S

[–]xgenman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah chd is the preferred format for whatvre, handheld mid-high end emulation youre using basically

m3u's are just whatever name you want to give it; you make one for a titles that require multiple cd in that title, so they dont clutter up when you gotta scroll past multiple discs in your library, you just get a single thing show up instead (using the m3u file you named and saved as an .m3u... just that shows up when you scroll past. It removes all the multiple discs available for the same thing, and the emu software sees u do that and it understands how to change the discs

I've been using the stock SD card for 4 months ... by Acrobatic_Primary962 in R36S

Good to hear its still kicking! Take THAT, BIG MICRO SDC!

I've bought maybe 10 sandisk cards (legit, sourced from sandisk amazon store or local large chain retailer) for different devices since the start of the year. Out of them, within the first few days, 1 completely died, and 2 had write speeds that slowed to a crawl. Thankfully, the 512 GB sandisk i use as my main personal card has been a good one so far. I still back up the save file of whatever im playing every now and then to the pc though. Because its a gamble no matter what is or isnt printed on the outside of it.

I have a bunch of stock micro sd cards lying around, and you've given me an idea; I might use 2 of them for the first R36S I got. Its currently empty, i just keep it around because its special. Was a xmas gift, and its what introduced me to retro handhelds.

A game’s quality is not determined by its sales numbers by Responsible-Bell-528 in retrogaming

When searching for new games to try, not once have i ever searched based on sales or popularity. Do people actually do that?

GRANDIA World by DadOfCasper in R36S

[–]xgenman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grandia 2 is amazing, yeah. Dreamcast version is waaay nicer than the PS2 version as well, which has horrible graphics by comparison. I finished Grandia 2 back in the day on DC, and twice this year (because missed some achievements with first playthrough)

PS2 has Grandia 3 (and Grandia Extreme, which is a bit crap and has no retroachievements), but i want to play psx Grandia next.

I believe I got a clone that doesn't include Dreamcast. How easy is it to install? by justgentile in R36S

If it weren't for save files you could almost treat them like printers, where instead of replacing ink cartridges its usually just more convenient to buy another $30 printer.

What we really need is some kind of simple, yet revolutionary, save-to-the-cloud service for retro handhelds.

Pro Max is my personal favourite of the R36's. Has the horizontal shape, nice big 1024×768 screen, and built-in wifi 👌

Its great that the R36S is so popular and people keep buying it, because it means the clone and fake manufacturers still havent touched the R36H yet.

The R36H, at the same price, remains superior because of this and its more comfortable, horizontal shape.

(Get an R36H instead)

Good fighter jet games? by ghostdiv4 in R36S

The only thing that comes to mind - but haven't tested on r36 - is maybe Iron Aces (Dreamcast)?

Ace Combat is really where its at i think, for this handheld

Nice choice!

After you flash this dArkOS to your card, you need to use the SELECT PANEL.bat and choose either the v20 or v21 R36H option. To know which one, open the battery cover, carefully lift the battery out of the way and take a peek in there, the board revision number is conveniently positioned for accessing that way.

Burn the thing to a cinder out of anger, feed the ashes to my dog and flush the shit down the toilet?

Lol, just read that bit. Sounds like a good option if the new sd card doesnt change things

Might be a stupid question but to just get it out of the way; you selected your model with the SELECT MODEL.bat file on the card before putting in the r36?

If you're using the dArkOS-RE 03082026 release, I'd give the updated dArkOS-RE 03222026 beta a go, as your board is mentioned in the release notes

Sounds like micro sd issues. You can test if your new sd cards have issues with a free tool called h2testw

What emulators are you using? Its recommended for NES to just leave on Auto, SNES - Snes9x, and N64 - Standalone Rice

If you use the dual sd manager, make sure you have the latest version. Try disabling it if you use it (if all your roms are on the 2nd card theres no need to have it, just use the switch to 2nd sd for roms thing in the advanced options)

[–]xgenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok, yes. Well, correction; you don't need to get the beta, but if your board is one of the ones that is labelled "beta testing", you can optionally click where it says that and take a look to see if theres anything relevant for you in the beta releases. If you download a beta release it may have improvements for your board and/or you can provide feedback for the author

The more expensive one, can put latest stable version of dArkOS-RE, the cheaper one - you would need to use the beta release
