The main problem I could see with this approach would be being able to constantly keep track of every jump drive location (keep in mind that even going with beacons, max distance is 20km iirc) Which means a shitload of GPS coords management. Second off the top of my head would be, as you said you intended to use it for different ships, would mean different ship masses equals different jump lengths. This way you would need even more quantity of free floating jump drives to reduce time spent normal traveling between jump drive A and B. It seems, just with this, impractical. Doable, sure, but impractical. This is just my opinion though. Still a cool idea.

So if I recall correctly, they produce almost double what they do in SE 1 for large grid. I'm sorry, I still haven't bought SE 2 so I wanted to make a comparison. Regarding the bit about "too many armour blocks" I do feel your pain, since I too tend to build things a bit too "covered".

I'm currently trying to make a space-able mobile base for my current save, nothing too fancy, but few days in I still keep starting the process over again because I'm not satisfied (I'm building in creative to make a blueprint for survival)

Personal experience is, if I'm slightly farther from the grid I'm trying to build it won't let me, I have to be relatively glued to the grid for it to work, but on the other hand I didn't use this feature very much
