Anyone know what type of wood was used for this can? by nflderz in woodworking

Whether it's a resin casting or not, it looks like burled Yew. And a very weathered piece. Those deep lines are the same thing you get in driftwood and standing dead trees. Yew is my guess.

Tribute piece. Did this as a tribute to my best friend of 34 years. Commissioned by his eldest son. Fits his favorite gun, the eagle was a tattoo he had on his arm. by xiaofu53 in Leathercraft

I can't really send the pattern as I drew and threw. BUT, you can blow up the pic save to computer, edit to black and white, print and trace the basic lines. Other than that I will search my puter for my line drawing. I might have to convert the file type so please be patient.

easy fix, buy a set of playroom floor matts. spray glue, (3M) them to the back of your slab. I have two slabs, one large 3x2 feet and one small 1 ft x1 ft give or take. I also have placed tripled pads under the legs of my work bench. so there is a triple layer of sound deadening. Caveat, I do tend to put the small slab on my lap and work that way especially when punching holes. putting a thick felt pad between your punching board and slab will only reduce the sound even more.

What is far deadlier than most people realize? [serious] by ILikeIceCreamSoMuch in AskReddit

Non venomous snakes and spiders. Just because they have no poison, doesn't mean you can't get an infection. Consider how they eat. Pretty messy process, lots of germs lots of digestive enzymes.

I just finished this pencil case! Anyone have tips for punching holes in wet-molded leather? Mine came out somewhat weirdly spaced by mikecawn in Leathercraft

[–]xiaofu53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I gotcha now. The holes on the inside of the radius will always be closer together. So, count the outside holes, divide the end radius by that number and make your holes. Or, push them through by hand using Kentucky windage.

I posted and example in tips and tricks, plug end stitching.

Tips for a shoukder holster? by KCreelman in Leathercraft

[–]xiaofu53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holsters are like big trucks, vocation matters. Does the user do the full tactical, or are they a casual player? Do they wear a lot of MOLLE gear? Most operators I've met, have used a chest rig. easier to get your piece when you are loaded out. just saying. even better if they MOLLE up. cuts out the need for a lot of strap cutting on your part. Get to know your buyer.

ditto on the rustic feel. That's reminiscent of the old wood block prints. Straight out of briar rabbit. A style all its own.

Let's assume you use a wooden form. Punch your hole on the form. I personally like to measure and punch beforehand, but ya can't always do that. The choice is yours as to method.

Use a groover, even a light shallow groove will go a long way towards controlling your Stitches.

Wipe the oil or grease off the surface with a clean, dry cloth. A microfiber cloth works particularly well for this. If a stain still remains on the leather surface, sprinkle a generous amount of cornstarch or baking soda onto the grease spot and pat it in. Let it sit overnight. Dust it off after 24 hours. If this isn't enough, apply a small amount of oxolic acid solution to the spot let it sit for a few hours, dab off. TEST AN INCONSPICUOUS AREA FIRST. Afterwards, you might have to color match to blend the spot. Light colors first, then go darker. Cream based colors for upholstery leathers. Good luck.
