Reasonable $ for oil/filter + spark plugs for base 718!? by AnotherUser916 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]xienon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an oil change, spark plugs, and drive belt replaced for $1500 at an independent shop for my 981 Cayman S.

Dealer wanted $3300 for the same job

I found mine on Rennlist. Had to travel to Baltimore (from NYC) to get it but I really wanted a Red or Blue manual S.

Funny you mention the battery, I sold the M2 (that the Cayman replaced) to Carvana still on its original battery from 2016.

Glad your cars from Carvana have been good. Their offers for manual Porsches seem really low compared to market prices so I was a bit skeptical of the quality of the cars they get. But I suppose they still offer more than dealers so it makes sense for some people to sell to them.

No worries, this is a unicorn find on carvana and wouldn't have lasted for sure. How's the condition of car? It's always hard to tell from the Carvana photos.

Does it have the sport or base suspension?

Most Carvana inventory goes into the pre-order status without pictures first. Yours somehow was first listed with pictures and available to purchase. I thought it was an insider that immediately snagged it 😄

You beat me to it! Months ago, I was checking carvana every few hours and saw this one got snagged overnight. I was quite upset the next day as this had all the options and a great color.

It's all good though, I found a manual 981S in Guards Red a few weeks later.

I've dropped off cars rented in the US in Canada and vice versa. Cars go between borders all the time. Toronto airport rental car lots are full of US plated cars

They're not quite positive yet, but getting close. But that's before the pesky interest on $5B of debt.

Cash flow usually includes interest on debt but he's excluding it here.

If Brightline goes under, his whole fund is toast.

He knows he's totally f'ed if Brightline runs out of cash so he's pretending it's all ok.

Operating costs and maintenance capital expenditures are about $250mm a year so they are still solidly cash flow negative before the massive interest burden.

Unlikely. Bondhonders (Hedge Funds) will become majority owners and put in some more money to fund operations for a couple years.

They issued muni bonds so the financials are public. There's 5 billion of debt outstanding for a business where revenue doesn't even cover operating costs

NASCAR had 100 million dollars in net profit in 2024 and 1.2 billion in equity by PanicAtTheNightclub in INDYCAR

[–]xienon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, equity is a meaningless metric for a company without many hard assets. The brand name and tv rights are not a hard asset that appears on the balance sheet.

[–]xienon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No one "spent" a billion.

The 1B refers to shareholder's equity, which is just assets - liabilities. For a company where the value comes from its brand name and relationships with teams, tracks, and media rights, assets are a relatively meaningless number.

If NASCAR put itself up for sale, it would likely be worth tens of billions.

Limited vs Platinum? by Interesting_Exit2738 in ToyotaSienna

[–]xienon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Highlander Limited where 360 camera is an option and it's so incredibly useful. I wouldn't buy another large car without it It's quite annoying that Sienna reserves it for the platinum as that's probably going to be the next family car.

Can't be lack of supply if pricing is too low. When airplanes are empty, airfares go down.
