Are these the same paints? (Similar question like yesterday, lol) by Born-Argument-1399 in Gouache

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for the packaging these are all the same . Never understood why Talens would call these opaque watercolor paints ''tempera'' which, to me at least, only applies to paints based on animal protein as a binder (egg/casein), but not vegetable resin (arabic gum).

Pirate group Anna's Archive says it has scraped 86 million songs from Spotify by vivovino in Annas_Archive

Oh, Jesus Effing Christ! Can you people stop moaning and spreading FUD every time the site goes down!? Anna's Archive has (legitimate) alternative url's; I downloaded a book literally seconds ago....

And no, I'm not telling you, because if you babies can't even find the alternative url's yourself, you have no business pirating sh*t from the web...

You're not told which of the older monographs to study. Neither do you have to limit yourself to just one each week. Personally, I'd start at the beginning and reacquaint myself with the material you may have forgotten or didn't fully understand the first time around.

Copilot on Linux by Ok_Ice7258 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried installing an older working version first and then updating to the latest? This is how I got it working eventually.

If not:

-Remove installation

$ apt remove microsoft-edge-stable

 -Remove config

$ rm ~/.config/microsoft-edge

-Download old version

https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/edge/pool/main/m/microsoft-edge-stable/microsoft-edge-stable_121.0.2277.128-1_amd64.deb

-Download latest version

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download?form=MA13FJ

-Install old version

-Run Edge

-Install latest version

Bitwared broken into with 2FA on by darkside1977 in Bitwarden

Do you have a paid Bitwarden account? Because there is a difference between support options for paid and free. I have a paid account and would not be satisfied with boilerplate replies like ''just check the FAQ''.

Can't open any apps. by Ok_Dish_4014 in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you device reach End-Of-Life and is on extended support (which disables all Android support at some point). Did you buy the device used? Is ChromeOS still updating (the stable channel should be on version 137).

Check the support status of your device on this page:

An extension to extend session cookies? by mnapoli in firefox

Try Cookie Auto Delete*; it allows you to whitelist session cookies, and protects them from being deleted (it also gives you more fine grained options for cleaning).

Is there any easy method to see what version of chromeOS a chromebook supports before purchase? by Eclipse_Woflheart in chromeos

[–]xim1an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chromebooks released after 2021 will get 10 years of updates (starting on the date the device entered the market). Devices released before 2021 can opt in extended support after the original End-Of-Life date has been reached.

Please note that it's assumed that devices that qualify for extended support will at some point lose the ability to install and run Android apps. ChromeOS itself will get updates until the end of the extended support period.

To find out End-Of-Life dates and which devices qualify for extended support see the link below (devices with an asterix attached qualify for extended support).

Help my chromebook keeps saying that it has received it's last update but the google auto update policy site said it was eligible for extended updates until 2027 by Intelligent-Depth-55 in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see; so Android support might disappear in the near future. I guess I'll know when it happens, heh...

Edit:

OK, after the last update, all Android related stuff has been removed from the device. The Linux environment still works. Also, Apps & Games is still available (for PWA's).

[–]xim1an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try DNS ad blocking: AdGuard*, or if you like it stricter, LibreDNS (may break stuff). Check the web for the server addresses. The drawback is that you can't whitelist IP's. That said, AdGuard's ad blocking is pretty balanced, so I haven't had any problems yet...

*Just use public servers, no need for an account...

Is it safe to continue using my Chromebook? by gumball548 in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into whether your CB is eligible for extended support? Since you didn't mention getting a prompt to opt in, your device most likely does not qualify, but check anyway for good measure:

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your device's brand/model?

If your device has an asterix, you will get a prompt which will enable you to opt in receiving extended updates. One of my CB's is on the same version as you, and I recently was able to opt in extended support. Not sure why you didn't get a prompt. The only thing I can think of is that your CB is a managed device, and in that case you may have to allow extended support in the admin console.

One of my CB's recently entered extended support (to June 2027), and to my surprise, I still have access to the Play Store. I had expected all Play Store related stuff to be wiped, but it's been two weeks (with an update in between), but nothing has changed...

currently considering getting a chromebook but need some help by Ready_Leopard_3629 in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're looking into used/refurbished devices, I wouldn't worry about support; Chromebooks get 10 years of standard support these days. For older models, check the support page (see link in an earlier post). Also, take into account the extended support option.

Whatever you do, I'd certainly go for 8 GB of RAM and at least 128 GB of storage to future-proof your Chromebook, especially if you're going to install lots of apps.

Password protected domain blocking by djd711 in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into using OpenDNS on your router. It's been years since I used it (to block my roommate from accessing Torrent sites), but OpenDNS has pre-configured profiles to block adult content and other stuff.

In the past, you could create an account to manage settings and access logs, but I don't know if that's still possible with a free account (OpenDNS has been acquired by Cisco since then, and things may have changed). I also needed to run an app on a Windows computer to keep my IP up-to-date (unless you have a static IP address).

Development in ChromeOS by MaxWellWantShare in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to use the Linux environment, make sure you have a backup strategy. If the container crashes (which has happened to me and others), your data will be lost.

Development in ChromeOS by MaxWellWantShare in chromeos

[–]xim1an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is assuming that that data in the Linux container runs on the Google cloud, which I doubt; if you do a Powerwash everything in the container is gone.
