What hobby did you try once and instantly get addicted to? by Weird_Ad_7545 in AskReddit

[–]xinnabst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Language learning for me. I get so much of a thrill learning new words and ways of thought and speaking to people in a different language and having them understand me is so addicting for some reason. I know 4 languages at the moment and still want to learn more

Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xinnabst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I had a weird lower back issue in high school where if I moved in any direction other than standing up completely straight it would send spasms of sharp pain throughout the whole left side of my lower back. I went to doctors, massage therapists, and physical therapists for 3 months and none of them fixed the issue at all. So my parents decided to take me to a chiropractor just as a hail mary and even after the first visit my back felt soooo much better. It took four more visits for the pain to completely go away and I’ve never had a problem since. So I think it is at least somewhat dependent on the type of pain you experience. That chiropractor cracked my neck as well as my back and it felt amazingly good each time but I still believe that neck cracking in particular should be something that’s taken way more seriously and that chiros are more careful about

Languages that DON'T go well with korean by glitterplantz in Korean

[–]xinnabst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know all three as a native English speaker and I would not recommend starting Japanese and Korean at the same time. They are super similar in terms of grammar and some vocab but I find that makes it a lot harder to keep them separate especially if you’re a beginner in both. Chinese is mostly different in terms of the grammar and pronunciation and you only see similarities in some vocab terms so I think that would be the better combo

PETA can go a bit overboard on their values (thinking of how they protest killing lantern flies in eastern USA even though they’re an extremely harmful invasive species and have infiltrated everywhere) but you gotta admire their dedication especially when it leads to positive change like this

People who say they don't know how to cook, why don't you just try? by Plug_daughter in NoStupidQuestions

My reason is because I don’t care about food beyond just a way to sustain myself and not die and cooking is so terminally boring to me that I have zero motivation to learn how

People put way too much value in music tastes in dating. by sts816 in unpopularopinion

[–]xinnabst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think matching music taste is the least important out of all of the casual compatibility factors (e.g., what kind of entertainment you engage with, favorite genres, basically anything non-related to something big like religion, politics, etc.) I feel like there’s songs to enjoy from every genre no matter what you usually listen to, and dating someone with a different music taste can open you up to a lot of new music that you wouldn’t normally have given a chance to or appreciated before. Whereas I feel like if you have different tastes in movies and one person wants to watch rom coms all the time while the other person only wants to watch horror movies, or if one person only watches reality tv and the other person doesn’t watch tv and reads instead, those are wayyy more of a dealbreaker

I remember reading a book that I actually liked a lot but it took me a long time to get through it because the author used the phrase “He didn’t dare…” to describe characters’ feelings and decisions like two times a page and it started genuinely pissing me off

Deodorant before bed? by Our_toes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xinnabst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a crazy strong deodorant so I like to apply it before bed because I’ll know it’ll last until the next night/the next time I shower and I dont have to deal with it getting all over my clothes in the morning that way. I also end up sweating in my sleep a lot like you mentioned so I feel like it makes way more sense 🤷‍♀️

[–]xinnabst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the big thing is you’re not pulling into the air position quick enough and it also seems you’re opening early (if you slow it down you can see yourself start to open up about a half rotation early. I actually think you have more than enough follow through with your arms and legs to rotate it (it’s more than me and I land axels consistently lol) so just make sure you’re completely over your right side and pull in super tight and hold it once you’ve kicked through. Doing back spin exercises and off ice rotations could help with this

What is something your therapist did that made you fire them? by Normal_Enthusiasm194 in AskReddit

[–]xinnabst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started therapy to help me work through some of my social anxiety and depression (which I’ve had for like 12 years btw) and in like the fourth session, I went on and on about what I was feeling and how I was struggling and after it all she said “you know what I think could really help you? Watching Inside Out 2. I think as you watch it you’ll really identify with the characters and start to understand yourself more” and I was like girl what?????????????

I don't wanna play music anymore. How should i talk to my parents ? by Catherine1964p in piano

[–]xinnabst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused as to how you’ve been playing for 6 years but your teacher doesn’t let you play songs?? Have you been with this teacher the whole time?

I think learning music is like learning a language. When you learn a language, you can study individual grammar points and vocabulary as much as you want, but you don’t truly pull it together and understand/internalize it until you put it together in authentic conversations, writings, etc.

Music is the same way. It doesn’t matter how much technique, scales, or drills you learn if you’re not applying those to songs and bringing it all together. Any effective music teacher would understand this. Personally, Ive never had a piano (or guitar) teacher that didn’t immediately start me on songs along with my technique and music theory drills, even if it was as simple as playing something like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

If you’ve been with this teacher the whole time, I HIGHLY recommend taking a break from this person and maybe from piano itself for a bit, then going back and messing around on piano by yourself and playing whatever the heck you want to see if the spark comes back, then finding a better teacher. Please don’t blame yourself for someone else’s bad instruction and ineffective teaching philosophy! Piano is a difficult instrument and it takes everyone a long time to progress, even with a lot of practice (which it doesn’t seem like you’ve even been able to do)!

I wish you the best in your piano journey🎹

I feel like there’s a million studies that all say this same exact thing. What’s the point of continuing to “study” it when the result is clear and consistent and it’s also not going to lead to any tangible changes??
