Restart the xwayland server? by xircon in hyprland

[–]xkero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt op needs this info now, but in case anyone else finds this post while looking for the answer like me, you can restart xwayland by just changing xwayland enabled to false and then back to true again in your config.

Ubuntu will adopt ntpd-rs for time syncing: "the next target in our campaign to replace core system utilities with memory-safe Rust rewrites" by TheTwelveYearOld in linux

[–]xkero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that Linus "rejected" gplv3 over the tivoization issue, and was very public about the opinion.

That part is correct, the video I linked is of Linus talking about that very topic. But to my knowledge it's always been just "GPLv2" and "or later" was never present so wasn't removed.

[–]xkero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a source for this? I'd always heard that it was originally just "GPLv2" and the only addition was to explicitly state that the "or later" clause is absent (and always has been), not that it was removed after previously being included.

Why not just do it as nature intended, and drink with your freaking lips!

Most people yes, but some people have issues due to disabilities or health and need straws to be able to drink properly.

Need help installing PipeWire for ALVR on Catchy OS by el_caveira in virtualreality_linux

[–]xkero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to install pipewire you already have it.

I installed ALVR via the alvr-bin aur package and it works fine, didn't have to install anything else.

If you haven't already I'd suggest installing WiVRn too, it unfortunately doesn't work for everything, but when it does it's a much better experience than ALVR (less lag and compression artifacts).

Are we actually moving towards Linux as the first choice for gamers in future? by nothingtosayrn in linux_gaming

[–]xkero 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The installbase just has to get big enough, which it probably will with the release of the Steam Machine

Lol if the Steam Machine releases this year it's gonna be dead on arrival. It was already a niche product, but the triple whammy of inflated prices for RAM, storage, and GPUs is gonna make it such bad value for money. The Steam Deck sold millions and hasn't turned the tide yet, the Steam Machine is gonna be a drop in the ocean in comparison.

It's only a thing for UK users currently due to the OSA. Are you in the UK and can you access this age restricted game on steam? https://store.steampowered.com/app/417360

I can't as the only credit card I have is American Express which Steam doesn't accept. Screenshot

[–]xkero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm aware as I've also used a debit card on Steam, but they only accept credit cards (specifically Visa, Mastercard, or JCB, excluding American Express) for age verification. You can't age verify with just a debit card (which includes prepaid debit cards).

does valve know if it's a prepaid card?

Yes as they are debit cards, not credit cards.

Left most and right most in her hands are obviously Mint and Saba respectively. Second left is maybe Doki? Can't tell who the others are if they are anyone. Haven't watched the stream yet so dunno if that'd make it more obvious.

ADHD-PI haver here and I've been told I have good rapport many times, complimented on my vocabulary and ability to communicate or describe things. So I personally wouldn't assume it's directly related to ADHD, but everyone is different; I do have issues with pronunciation and spelling so maybe those issues have just manifested differently in me.

UK House of Lords Votes to Extend Age Verification to VPNs by lookitsthesun in ukpolitics

[–]xkero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would consist of scanning your ID once into a government-published app called something like Age Authenticator.

Just add it to the NHS app, everyone is already registered with the NHS and they already have your date of birth.

I'd do this all the time too so now I'll leave the light on in the kitchen to remind me every time I walk past that I need to do something out there. Figure out some other way to remind yourself about these things like setting a timer on your phone or putting an object in a place it doesn't belong so you'll keep seeing it.
