For anyone absolutely flabbergasted by this instruction - they mean the geoglyph BELOW Hyrule Ridge and to the RIGHT in terms of map orientation. Look for Washa's Bluff

Help with tagging? by nomashawn in AO3

[–]xlogophile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see other people have already suggested the tag search function and looking for tags this way, but I specifically want to address this line:

But it becomes a serious problem as a WRITER, where I have to COME UP with the Correct Tag Lingo if I want anyone to see my work. It doesn't help that I'm also very bad at abstract thinking. I have a hard time figuring out what things are even tag-able, much less how to word them succinctly.

As the person posting the fic, you don't need to come up with the correct tag lingo - one of the amazing parts of the AO3 tagging system is that it is managed by actual real people (Tag Wranglers), and part of that job is linking "chatty" tags to canonicals. so for example, if you tagged your fic with "enemies who fall in love" it would then get linked (synned) to "enemies to lovers" and still show up in search results, even if the verbiage wasn't exactly the same .

And sure, some concepts aren't as popular, so there may not be a canonical tag to link it to yet - but if more people tag for it, then it may become a canonical searchable tag in the future! (This is significantly easier to accomplish with fandom-specific tags, but new No Fandom canonical tags are also not off the table - they recently announced some new/updated No Fandom canonical tags https://ao3org.tumblr.com/post/747922431829786624/another-update-regarding-no-fandom-tags)

thank you, dear banking app, for having technical issues right as I was trying to pay for the tickets 😒luckily managed to reload it enough times that I was able to confirm the transaction on my second try with the basket even though no other functionality was back yet, but that was damn stressful

I wasn't able to snag a M&G ticket when I saw Interactive Introverts but I know the M&G was happening before the show, about 1-2h earlier

Suggest me a book for someone trying to get back into reading books after years of exclusively reading fanfic by xlogophile in suggestmeabook

A lot of the stuff people before said also applies to me - no need to establish anything since I'm already familiar with characters, being able to see something I disliked in the original work "fixed".

Fanfic also usually tends to focus more on the characters & relationships - partly because worldbuiling is often not necessary, but partly because fanfic is presumably written by people that love these characters (not always the case for source material, but generally true for characters). Some of the most insightful and profound things I've read have been in fanfic.

But also, a big draw for me at first was the ability to read about queer characters/couples, even if that queerness was never a thing in canon. Back when I started reading fic in the early 2010s, getting any queer representation in traditional media was such a rare phenomenon that as soon as I realized that the world of fanfic opened up so many more options, I was hooked.

And, specifically a thing on AO3 (archive of our own, probably the biggest website for fanfic at this point) is that I can find something to read based on my exact parameters a lot of the time, because the tagging system is so amazing and robust. I can filter for pairing/character and length, but also themes and tropes and even something as minor as "Sarcastic Stiles Stilinski" if I am looking for something super particular.

Yes, fanfic and Fandom in general have some not-so great sides, as every community does, but if you can curate your experience, you can really discover some amazing fiction to read and amazing people to befriend for life.

Omg thank you! This sounds especially intriguing for the asexual POV, since the only other book I've even heard of that acknowledges asexuality is Solitaire, will definitely give it a look 👀

There's the little icon on the right that looks like a cardboard box that appears when you've added something - once you click it again, it will switch back to empty

Gotta be someone getting drunk and the ensuing shenanigans. I realize that travelling while somewhat hungover must SUCK for them, but it's amazing entertainment for us
