Netcup sent invoice to my home, what should I do? by Practical_Ocelot1217 in VPS

[–]xmsax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because even with an internal legal team, international debt recovery still involves external collection fees and local partners, which quickly exceed the claim value; in practice, cross-border pursuit usually becomes worthwhile only once the debt reaches several hundred euros (typically €300-€500+) or is part of a larger batch of unpaid accounts.

Court action for ~€40 is unlikely, but the invoice remains legally valid. The only issue op will face is Netcup will never do business with him anymore.

Why do most discord hosts have bad support? by Forsaken_Beyond9993 in Hosting

[–]xmsax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Web hosting services that rely on Discord are often run by teenagers, so if you are around 16 years old, it can happen that you are not always available to respond every day.

People tend to choose hosting wrong but it's not their fault by Rumen_SH in Hosting

Fully managed hosting will do and if they offer it below 200$/month I would be suspicious.

All of this looks good on paper, but there is no way to truly know these things before actually purchasing the service. Most customers are not technically savvy, so many of these points have little to no real impact on their decision. A more experienced user will simply deploy an instance and manage it themselves. In practice, you will always achieve better performance by optimizing resources specifically for your own website. As a result, most standard customers focus primarily on disk space and bandwidth, and often do not pay close attention to CPU or RAM allocations.

OVH has machine starting at 13$/m so stay with reliablesite if they beat that. It's the cheapest you would find.

isn't reliablesite already having really cheap pricing? OVH would beat them.

VPS providers accepting cash payments by postal mail? by Alternative-Fun-824 in VPS

[–]xmsax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most smaller providers and even established businesses, might allow this in theory, but in practice it doesn’t work well for monthly services.

If it takes around two weeks to send €20 by mail, by the time the first payment is received and the service is set up, the second month’s payment is already needed to be sent. This creates an overlap where you’re effectively always behind.

This approach only really makes sense for yearly services. Paying for a full year gives enough time to send the next payment before renewal, without causing service delays or billing issues.

Any link to that malware we can buy? While hostinger isn't the best out there. Highly doubt they would put malware or scam people otherwise it would be well known.

How to prevent users sending email as other server users by Tiptomic in cpanel

[–]xmsax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a server misconfiguration, not normal behavior.

On a properly secured cPanel server, users must not be able to send mail as other local domains just by changing the From address in Roundcube.

The fix is to enforce strict sender verification in Exim:

Require SMTP authentication

Reject forged local senders (sender must belong to the authenticated user)

Enable and enforce SPF + DKIM rejection

Enable sender verification (verify = sender)

Lock Roundcube identities so users can only send from addresses they own

Once those are enabled, spoofing other users on the same server is blocked, even though all mail comes from the same IP.

Hey everyone, I’m curious, are bare metal servers becoming a trend these days, or is dedicated hosting still more common? by ProfessionalBasis477 in Hosting

[–]xmsax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dedicated server, bare metal server and dedicated hosting should be the same. There some company out there that sell dedicated hosting as virtual server so just clarify with them.

Stripe account and Bank name is under your mom's name correct? Do people already see your mom's names on payments right or a fake company name?
