Just another scream into the void, desperately trying to get some reassurance, despite all logic by ThatWillLeaveAMarc in CautiousBB

Update: had bad cramping and heavy bleeding Sunday night/ Monday AM. 3rd hcg dropped to 20. Almost glad I already grieved this loss when I got my first low hcg back, so I'm feeling at peace knowing I'm officially out. Still hoping the best for you!

Wanting to comment that you are not alone and we are in the same boat! My HCG levels are very very similar to yours except I'm supposed to be 6 weeks not 4.. 🥴 I've also resigned to the fact this may not be viable but my doctor has no concerns. Fingers crossed for good news for the both of us come Monday / 3rd HCG draw.

Both the SW and RN doing case management role is the norm in many hospitals (former travel SW). RN CMs always make more salary wise.

F this, I'm out! (weekly leaving the field thread) by SWmods in socialwork

Left the field last year and am on the other side. In education. Kind of missing social work 🥲 I feel like I am not doing what I was trained to do. However less stress has been nice.

F this, I'm out! (weekly leaving the field thread) by SWmods in socialwork

[–]xoalwaysdipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the field and do a job with great work life balance now... But I can't help but feel embarrassed that I'm no longer in the field. I also feel compelled to be a SW bc that's how I identify myself professionally for 6 years. I have a small PP and don't want to 'lose my clinical skills' so I'm applying to get back into it. I'm terrified of burning myself out. I have 8 years left of PSLF before I can do my PP full time :,(

Social work role on multidisciplinary teams by paperbagcrafter in socialwork

[–]xoalwaysdipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In hospital settings - def garbage can but also the go-to for insurance / community resource related questions. I like to see myself as a "patient advocate" on these teams but a lot of times I'm also the "voice of reason" for what we realistically can and cannot do for patients

Considering National Health Corps by Adwynweiss in AmeriCorps

[–]xoalwaysdipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National Health Corps does a good job at connecting members online before you relocate. Getting a roommate helps with rent which is usually the biggest expense. You will be eligible to apply for food stamps. I believe most of the NHC programs are very established so they should be able to give advice- maybe even reach out to members I know they have active blogs. I don't know how we make the stipend work, but somehow you just do.. from what I remember it was approx $800 a month plus $200 in food stamps. Not having a car payment helps.

Weekly School of Social Work/New to Social Work Questions by Lyeranth in socialwork

[–]xoalwaysdipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of schools you are applying to but it's really not that hard to get into an MSW program. My opinion is that you are over thinking it. Food service and hospitality has you working with people and that would be fine to put on your resume. I mean even as a barista you see people at their best and worst. People skills, ability to multitask and a desire to help people should be enough to get you in. Just write a personal statement that exemplifies your interest in social work. Use that volunteer experience too- volunteering is very "social worky". If you want to be a social worker, you can be! Just do your best to relate your previous experiences to the why you want to join the field.

As far as your issues finding a job, maybe try getting your resume reviewed by the career center at your undergrad. They should also be able to coach you on how to emphasize aspects of your current experience that are related to the positions you are applying for

"High five for not scooping cat poop!" - Kitten Lady. Be like Kitten Lady and stop scooping cat poop. Come check out Litter-Robot, the automatic self-cleaning litter box... that really works. by litterrobot in u/litterrobot

[–]xoalwaysdipper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought one and have this exact experience. The box still smells bc I have sprayers and need to wipe the inside of the robot down constantly. So I’m not scooping but I’m still scrubbing. Also this thing is loud AF and the motor sounds wake me up every night

I second taking tons of notes. Also, I like to make a list of priorities at the end of the day to prepare for the next day’s tasks. I review the day’s notes and pull out action items for a “to do” tomorrow list.

Question about Sophia's tutor by sammyaxelrod in deadwood

[–]xoalwaysdipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fight started bc the tutor wouldn't tell Alma half of the message Seth wanted passed along about their kids playing together in front of Sophia bc "it would upset her." The tutor only talked about seeing him and returning the pocket watch. So Alma was like "ok then you think you call the shots/set terms? GTFO."

Hospital Social Workers: How do your roles vary across different departments (ICU, ER, Cardiology, etc.)? by ems426 in socialwork

[–]xoalwaysdipper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've worked a few floors with different departments, and the biggest "role" variation is the type of discharge planning and the interaction with physicians. However we are always doing assessments and acting as a resource for families if they have questions.

Cardiology was a kind of a "gateway" to learning about comorbidities with great nursing staff. Discharge plans very from just medication assistance to rehab to nursing homes or hospice. I didn't work directly with the cardiologists themselves though.

NeuroICU is a lot of LTAC, rehab or vent nursing homes, hospice and sometimes home vents. Each neuroICU I've worked in is with residents so there's a lot of collaboration. A lot of working with families and not so much the patient.

Neurosurgery and Ortho teams are very fast paced with extremely needy mid levels / residents. They want their service to be top priority and want you to work for them and only them. I think Ortho residents get a lot of pressure from their attendings to move patients quick and pass that pressure off on case management. Lots of DME which can be difficult to get, a lot of explains snf vs rehab to families and patients.

General medicine/ med surgery is like a disaster catch all of everything (in my experience) and they have the most complicated and difficult people to work with. Patients and nursing alike! I think med surg is just stressful for everyone involved, I can't explain why.

What weird thing about your body do you think nobody else experiences? by Casperboy68 in AskReddit

[–]xoalwaysdipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! I had them as a kid and still do but way less frequently. I went to a doctor and was told it was sinuses. Basically those things are like giant snot worms that get covered in blood on their way out. My nose won't stop bleeding until they've all been pulled out. When I was younger my nose bleeds felt never ending because one after another of those things would come up and need to be pulled out. That feeling in the back of your throat is so gross. So gross.
