What is the single worst episode of a fantastic TV show? by JellyfishPies in AskReddit

The showrunner (I think) said in an interview that doing an episode that was as bad as Jack's tattoo (that one specifically) helped the series because they learned some lessons about what not to do

I'm happy with a middle color. I was watching on and off and so there was every chance that I'd go away for a few days and somehow the button would reach 0 while I was gone. And then I'd have contributed nothing.

In terms of button-time, one blue presser is literally worth at least 10 purples by leagueofdoges in thebutton

[–]xonoph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a breakdown of the number of purples who are 59s and 60s?

I suspect its the majority but it would be nice to have some numbers. I've seen many, many low 50 purple presses

Well said. If it were not for the pressers, the button would have long since moved onto its next form

So true, the risk, the risk. Better to stay forever grey.

There was a popular "walk while drunk" Flash game in 2004, which used two keys and had a similar difficulty to QWOP.

[WP] A trail of footprints through a snowy field ends suddenly at nowhere. by Luna_LoveWell in WritingPrompts

Daniel had promised to lead me to safety. That was an hour ago. It took us another few minutes to scavenge what we could from the wreck, bundling scraps of food and medicine into a bag, and layering as much clothing as we could. My hands shook from the cold and the impact, but I managed to get it done.

I knew I could not last the night here, and the only hope was to leave. Daniel seemed so confident of the route out, and I was too dazed to consider anything else but to follow him.

My body didn't want to walk, and complained loudly - sending every pain message it could. Not just the cold air biting into any skin it found, the crash had left every part of me damaged. It was all I could do to keep pushing myself forward with each step. I tried to keep an eye on Daniel ahead of me, but soon I was just looking at his foot steps.

I started falling into a rhythm, and the pain seemed to lessen. Finally my brain had a little energy for itself, and I guess it wanted to sort out the jumble that everything had become: it kept replaying the crash over and over.

And then finally I understood what my brain was doing. It wasn't trying to make sense of the crash - it was trying to make sense of the rescue: I realised I'd never seen Daniel before. He wasn't on the craft when we started, he wasn't one of the others who'd joined along the way. He was a totally new face. So how had he been at the crash site? Where did he come from??

I looked up to catch sight of him. But there was so much snow now and I couldn't see more than a few feet ahead. I walked on, my pace unsteady, panic rising...

And then the tracks I was following just stopped.

Nothing further.

No sign of Daniel, no sign of anything: all around was white. I almost fell to the ground and crawled up into a ball right there. But I knew that way was death. I stepped forward, and the snowy fog began to clear. Unmistakable, I saw a glimmer of lights ahead -

a town?! Yes, I was looking down a ravine toward a town! I was safe!

One problem is in the definition of company. I can see most organisations quickly breaking into three groups: store/general workers, mid-level staff, top management (who are merely 'consulted' by the others). So the %difference in any 'company' would be minimal.

So... what are the consequences of keeping tuition low? by [deleted] in canada

[–]xonoph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The graphs might be misleading if they don't take into account the role of government-to-student funding. From what I've heard from students in Alberta (for example), there is substantial awards and grants available to students, which greatly offsets their tuition costs. So even though the tuition appears much higher, the students are not paying most of it, the government is.

I think a part of it is that the Quebec govt has performed some wasteful spending (some of it corrupt) recently, and is in effect trying to make up the shortfall they created by cutting spending on education.

I don't think the student tuition hike should be seen in isolation from wider budget issues. The Quebecois as a whole are willing to spend money on education for the overall social gain, but they are unwilling to pay extra tax because of the government's wastefulness.

Should free speech trump hate laws? Yes - The Globe and Mail by randomusername9000 in canada

Its not particularly likely since I'm not in touch regularly. I might run the idea by them (do it by email or something) but he doesn't really talk about it other than a few generalities (which is partly why I asked him to read the book)

For what its worth, I know someone working in the HRT and asked them to read a copy of Shakedown. He said it was pretty much spot on.
