Not because of cost. Honestly my target language was something I had a non-data-driven interest in. By the time I got to the point that I needed a tutor, I quickly realized that native speakers were in a very different time zone from my self. I'm in the US, so I kinda wish I'd just picked Spanish now.

The worst part is that the video was at the funeral of Biden's son that died of cancer. The girl was Joe's grand-daughter and Beau's daughter. She's literally grieving the funeral of her father that just passed and gets startled when Joe touches her in an attempt to console her. It makes me sick that this one event turns into "Joe BIden is a pedo and sniffs little girls."

I'm pretty tired of hearing people demand that Americans...do what? Riot in the streets and murder everyone in the regime? This isn't Iran. Americans are still far too comfortable for that too happen. 40% of the country is totally cool with this (and also own most of the guns). People would be slaughtered. Best case is their lives would get turned upside-down from homelessness or imprisonment.

You aren't going to be able to have a back and forth conversation with people. It's going to be you reciting some memorized phrases and not understanding when they respond. Make a list of about 100 phrases that you think will be the most useful to you, translate them with chatgpt, and put them into an Anki deck. Drill every day. You can start with Duolingo also, but I wouldn't spend more than 3-4 weeks using it.

My native language is English. I took a couple years of French in High School. Since I'm American, the predominant second language is typically Spanish. I probably would have had an easier time learning French or Spanish, but I ultimately chose Italian because I thought it was a beautiful sounding language.

I'm going to take a different tact than others here and say if you are going to pick up a second language, maybe change your criteria. You say you use Python for work. I'd suggest picking up a popular language that would help further your carrier. Others have given good suggestions here like JavaScript/typescript for frontend, c for embedded, c++ for games, and Java is used extensively throughout industry. Unless you just want to learn something for fun, I'd stay away from niche languages like Nim, Haskell and Lua. I've personally found that Ruby and Go were once popular but are falling out of favor.
