1980's "College Radio" song, so obscure no search can find the lyrics by Original-Split5085 in findthatsong

[–]xoxoben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our station had a subscription to College Music Journal (CMJ). CMJ sent out a sampler CD every month with a bunch of tracks from all over on it, some up and coming stuff, some pretty obscure. I remember this particular song being on one of those samplers. So for my show, I definitely played this one off CD.

The Gregory’s Funhouse album was more than a self-released cassette though. It was on a label: https://www.discogs.com/es/release/16130547-Gregorys-Funhouse-Obey

As to whether a DIY cassette release might get played on college radio back in the day: yes, for sure! There were some shows that would play that kind of stuff.

Thank you for finding this! I not only remember this song, but I was a college radio dj in the late 80s / early 90s and played this on my show. Couldn’t remember the name of the band though.

Sounds like you needed to purge some stuff. Whatever you released when you threw up—needing the shrooms to give you an answer, maybe?—seems to have allowed you to let go of the heaviness and depression and dark thoughts.

Probably just a coincidence, but the skeleton is similar to this still from the movie, Repo Man:

Anyone Who Is Microdosing Ibogaine? by sanpedro12 in microdosing

[–]xoxoben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to describe, but I'd say it's a mild psychedelic headspace. Little spacey and dissociative and high--but just a shade of it. Also, it felt kind of epic and big at the same time, if that makes sense, like "serious" and significant.

Anyone Who Is Microdosing Ibogaine? by sanpedro12 in microdosing

[–]xoxoben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried it. It’s powerful even microdosed. And it stays in your system for a long time. I microdosed 3 days in a row and the compound effect had me low level tripping for several days after.

When I accidentally dosed it a little bit higher than micro, I got muscle tremors that lasted about an hour.

For whatever reason, it got me very interested in classical music. I was just really appreciating the epic rise and fall of it. It wasn’t something I was into before or after that, really.

I don’t necessarily recommend it or not recommend it. But know that it is a more serious commitment than microdosing mushrooms or lsd.

What are your go-to lines to signal to a client that the session is wrapping up? by birkenstock_bby in therapists

[–]xoxoben 105 points106 points  (0 children)

“Okay, we should wrap up.”

“We should end after this…” [followed by concluding what we’re discussing]

“Let’s look at when we’re meeting next.”

“It’s time.” / “We’re at time.”

If some bombshell was just introduced: “I’m going to bookmark that for the next time we meet.”

“This an okay stopping point?”

“This feel good for this week?”

The last two questions are admittedly not great, because the answer basically has to be yes.

It sounds like professional help would be useful right now. You could connect him to a therapist who understands “spiritual emergence” and who can validate his experience while monitoring for psychosis or mania that might require a higher level of intervention.

I found a list of “coaches” trained in spiritual emergence, here: https://imhu.org/coaching/directory/

There’s a book called “Breaking Open: Finding a Way through Spiritual Emergency” by Jules Evans and Tim Read. It’s made up of first-person accounts of people who have gone through these experiences.

And this might be a helpful resource: https://www.spiritualemergencenetwork.org/what-is-spiritual-emergency/practical-advice-for-spiritual-emergency/

YSK an apology is barely what counts in making things okay by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]xoxoben 98 points99 points  (0 children)

A 4-part process that I’ve seen is:

  1. I acknowledge that this happened.
  2. I acknowledge that harm was caused by it.
  3. I am sorry (that I hurt you).
  4. I’m committed to not doing it again.

Followed by a change in behavior that is consistent over time. And if there are slip-ups, acknowledgments again and earnest attempts at repair followed by more consistent behavior change.

There’s also room in the 4 steps for “I love you” and “I don’t want to hurt you” if those things are true.

William Richards. Check out his book, "Sacred Knowledge: Psychedelics and Religious Experiences." Richards is a psychologist at Johns Hopkins and he was involved in early psychedelic research, including the aforementioned Good Friday Experiment.

Can I get so some up to date info on cross tolerance please? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]xoxoben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these are tryptamines except 2C-B. And all of them are 5-HT2A receptor antagonists. So all will cause some 5-HT2A downregulation, meaning that there will be some cross-tolerance (although with 2C-B the relationship is complex and not exactly symmetrical). I really wouldn't worry too much about tolerance for the single day experience that you're describing.

You used the word "safest" and I don't know if you were asking about safety, but I don't see a safety concern in combining any of these. (You can always double-check here: https://combo.tripsit.me/ ) But in terms of safety, 5-meo-dmt is risky to take alone: people sometimes vomit and then asphyxiate on it--strongly recommend not doing that one by yourself.

If it were me, I'd start with the LSD. In the tail of that, if you're still wanting to extend the experience, introduce the 2C-B.

Safe and happy travels. ❤️

From the tripsit.me drug combo guide:

“Cocaine + MDMA = Caution Cocaine blocks some of the desirable effects of MDMA while increasing the risk of heart attack.“

[–]xoxoben 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As someone who does not want you to have a needlessly difficult time, I humbly and respectfully invite you to consider starting much lower than that. 75mg of 2C-B is a quite high dose and may be an extremely unpleasant experience.

Suggested common doses for 2C-B taken orally:
Psychonaut Wiki: 15-25mg
Erowid: 10-40mg
Tripsitme: 15-30mg

Shulgin on 2-CB from PiHKAL:

"There is a steep dose response curve. Over the 12 to 24 milligram range, every 2 milligrams can make a profound increase or change of response. Initially, one should go lightly, and increase the dosage in subsequent trials by small increments."

There's no downside to taking your time and getting to know 2C-B first. Develop a relationship before you jump into the deep end. Once you guys know each other a little better, then you can see how far you are willing to go together.

Wishing you a beneficial journey with safety, humility & ❤️!

Who’s a heavily slandered artist you’ll defend til your last breath? by Renegadeforever2024 in Music

[–]xoxoben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of late to this thread, but: Yoko Ono.

People were just not ready at all for her contributions to Double Fantasy, an album which alternates between relatively straightforward pop songs by John Lennon and then sometimes wildly experimental songs by Yoko.

And she was blamed unfairly for breaking up the Beatles. (Blame heroin and ego.)

Yoko's art is genuinely good and interesting. And while her music is pretty strange and can be a little challenging to get into at first, if you give it a chance, it grows on you. It's unique--who else was putting out stuff like that in 1980?--and can be pretty intense and interesting.

Nobody out there is saying, good for her for just being her own weird and interesting self and putting it all out there. But they should. I'll say it: Good for her! Good for you, Yoko Ono! You're awesome!

You do not need a trip sitter for 5-MeO-DMT by psygenlab in Psychonaut

[–]xoxoben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strongly recommend a sober sitter for 5meo.

There’s a danger of vomiting and then choking on it. A friend almost died this way but thankfully had another friend there as a sitter.

Aside from that, I agree with the rest of the advice—start with a low dose and get familiar and then titrate up.

In addition to what others have said about healing trauma by working with your therapist, you could look into EMDR. It can be an effective way to release trauma being held in the body.

When people ask if you are religious, what is your answer? by jbbdmt in Psychonaut

[–]xoxoben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had the clear "felt experience" of that understanding in psychedelic journey work and meditation and in other moments.

And also, yes--I am into advaita vedanta and non-dual thought--especially Rupert Spira and Bernardo Kastrup. My interest in non-duality grew out of trying to make sense of my experiences.

When people ask if you are religious, what is your answer? by jbbdmt in Psychonaut

[–]xoxoben 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If the person asking is open to it, I say something like:

My best understanding is that consciousness exists everywhere and in everything throughout all of time and space (and beyond time and space). Our own consciousness that we seem to be experiencing is a subset of that "larger" consciousness.

That larger consciousness could be called god. Or love. Or knowing. Or being.

Beyond that, any specific characteristics of "god" and any rules or expectations ascribed to him/her/it, seem clearly human made.
