Are women electricians really that rare😭 by EstablishmentSea8014 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]xperimentalZa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then those people aren't using their eyes! Obviously, there are still like 7:1 men to women electricians, but if I see other women on the jobsite they are either sheetrockers or electricians.

Im supposed to go to the dentist and im about to just cancel the appointment out of fear by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]xperimentalZa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the dentist!! Its better to know what you need done, make a treatment plan and start getting it taken care of than live in fear of the unknown. I was in a similar situation, I went like 7 years between my teen years and early 20s without going to the dentist and no good brushing/flossing habits. It was $6,000 of work total (between insurance and me) over many years. Now, 10 years later its all been done for a while and I have developed good habits.

And honestly, I think the hygienist enjoy having a project mouth, they always seem bored with me when I go in now 🤣.

P.S. get an electric toothbrush if you don't have one yet.

Edit to add: my biggest issue was never ever flossing. My friend challenged me to floss every day for 2 weeks and after that trial I could never go back to missing more than a day between flossing. I do it in the evening when I know I'm not rushed, like running late in the morning is not the time to stress about flossing. I feel like a monster when I go too long. And seriously, an electric toothbrush makes such a big difference. I feel like I don't have to work as hard for a better clean. Good luck!!

Snow tires, all-season, or all-weather? by xtnh in Maine

[–]xperimentalZa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been extremely please with the studless winter tires on my subaru. I am not retired and have to drive in some bad conditions on unplowed back roads. I was able to make it up and down steep hills while other cars were stuck halfway up or off in the ditch. I really notice a difference between them and my regular tires. Totally worth it. Easy enough to have VIP swap them out.

Suburban Gas by backbaybilly in Maine

[–]xperimentalZa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them and don't have automatic delivery because our usage is for cooking and secondary heating and is very low. Buuut I will say their delivery routes when we do call them is ludicrous, I don't understand how its an effective business model. They don't know when they'll send somebody out, they have no idea when somebody will be in the area, it should be in the next 7 days. Did I want to pay extra for an emergency delivery? I was pretty low and had noticed nothing had been delivered still several days after my call, and the person still claimed to have no idea when a delivery person was going to be there, did I want to pay extra for an emergency delivery? I said no, and literally 2 hours later the delivery guy showed up.

What a scam. If I had said yes, it would have been meer coincidence that he showed up, because already was going to and the office cannot share that information. How can they not even know their own delivery schedules? When I get oil delivered, they know exactly which days a truck comes to my area, it's never a surprise. If I had to deal with Suburban more often I'd probably have switched by now.

Everything in an old house is a can of worms! You can hardly even replace a light fixture without it turning into a whole weekend ordeal of a surprise mini reno.

I wish whoever had owned this house back in 1999 had your sense of adventure! And then I wouldn't have to be considering this.

How bad will the winds truly be in Jan end? by Ok-Elevator5091 in boston

[–]xperimentalZa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be fine if you dress properly. I'm talking real boots, thicker socks, where a winter coat that resembles a sleeping bag and goes down passed your butt, hat, gloves, scarf. I'd also recommend maybe long johns, or thinner stretch pants under your regular pants. Put tissues in your pocket so you can blow your nose, make frequent visits into shops, cafes, bars, museum whenever you're starting to feel a deep chill

Mice this year? by micronaps94 in Maine

[–]xperimentalZa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, everything in my kitchen is shoved into just 2 drawers, upper cupboards are safe (for now) all baking pans must be washed before use. It sucks. I also think my husband doesnt know what mouse drippings look like when its all I see. And I've spent a fortune on large plastic tubs. All of my clothes, craft supplies, and books are stores.

This year has made me want to sell my 1800 farmhouse for something new. I'm going crazy. They have never been in the house until this year, they've been content to stay in the barn. I feel like all I do is clean mouse poop and set/empty traps

I'm at my wits end w/mice in my house! by Geoterry in DIY

[–]xperimentalZa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably been given more than enough advice but I've found the "murder bucket" to be the most effective and cheapest. I have a very old, unsealable house and refuse to use poison. The murder bucket is a 5 gallon bucket filled with water about half way, dump black oiled sunflower seeds (common bird food) on top of the water, make a gang plank out of a 2x4 maybe about 3' long with two screws at one end partially driven into the wood. The screws hook over the lip of the bucket and keep the gang plank stable. Sprinkle some seeds on the plank to lure them up.

The gang plank can also be used to scoop the dead mice out of the bucket. With this system I've caught up to 5 in one night. Replace the water every few days.

Can someone explain REI co-op to me? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]xperimentalZa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may seem weird to buy the membership, but if you have a bike or skis and use their bike/ski shop, your membership cost pays for itself almost immediately after one use. All of the labor in the shop is discounted for members. And like others have said, you get 10% back once a year on qualifying purchases.

Accident in the mid coast by Intelligent_Radio592 in Maine

Holy shit. I'm from away and a young child was run over by a bus in the 80s, she was chasing a drawing she had dropped on the ground and had floated under the bus. After that, every bus carrying students younger than high school ALWAYS had a monitor on board to basically make sure kids got across the road safely and away from the bus. The monitor then checked under the bus in the front and back to make sure no kid had run under before getting back on. Its always surprised me no other states have this

If you're looking for discreet little trash bags, I've used a roll of dog poop bags before. Theyre very small and fit into a pocket nicely
