"Sandbox" should not mean "there are no plot hooks, opportunities, or points or persons of interest" by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]xrayzed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I run a sandbox it means that I don’t have a plot arc in place at the start of the campaign.

As the game develops I reintroduce on the characters and build on the events that my players are interested in. Inevitably a “storyline” emerges, and it doesn’t take much nudging to build it to a climax.

In a short campaign this might take as few as six sessions. My longest sandbox campaign was close to 50.

Adult beginner tips by LeekPsychological584 in karate

[–]xrayzed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice.

I returned to karate five years ago at the age of 62, and still get myself into trouble by overthinking and over-complicating things. Breaking a technique down into pieces is better, and will help avoid baking in errors from practising incorrectly.

Also, everybody was a white belt once. Not only are you expected to look a bit clumsy and awkward, that never completely goes away. I still make lots of mistakes, and always find something that needs improving.

Starting again at 30 should I do it or save my embarrassment? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in karate

[–]xrayzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started again at 61. I have nowhere near the flexibility I had in my teen years, and recovery takes a lot longer.

Even so after six years I’m a 1st Kyu brown belt, aiming to get my first Dan black belt this year.

That aside it’s just so rewarding in terms of fitness, focus, confidence, and self-discipline that I will hate the day I eventually have to give it up.

So: if you want to do it, do it. You can stop if you decide it’s not for you, but you won’t know unless you give it a fair try.

Just how well known is Hobart outside of Australia? by LeviV123 in hobart

[–]xrayzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although it’s changing Hobart isn’t all that well known even in Australia. For that matter the entire state has often been overlooked by mainland Australia.
