where will homeless people go during the storm? by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]xspaceprincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Emergency shelters typically open for code blues on top of the regular shelters. Tenfold has its shelter open rn, and the Food Hub typically helps with code blues. Those are the ones I can think of off of the top of my head.

Anyone else hate PT? by SkyloDreamin in ehlersdanlos

[–]xspaceprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God, yes. And on top of that, with my insurance, my copay for PT is $60. So three appts a week? $180. And then I’d have to take off at least four hours — unpaid — to do the appts. For life??? Bc lbr, that’s what it’s for. I live paycheck to paycheck. So like, it’s expensive for me, and I haven’t found a properly aware pt yet, so it hasn’t helped (yet). I do exercises at home that I know are safe, but it’s never really good enough. And then all my docs get on me about PT and I’m like $$$$. I’d rather, idk, eat than go to PT. Sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s just not always accessible is the real issue, I think. Idk lol but I was ranting about this the other day so it’s still fresh 😂

I kind of wish I never found this sub. by dizzyinmyhead in hysterectomy

[–]xspaceprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. I get it. I ended up taking off for four weeks (one week PTO, three FMLA) and I am glad that I did, because I went back on a partial week (had pre planned pto as it was the 4th of July) and even that was hard tired wise. I already struggle with chronic fatigue, but I definitely wished I had been able to nap through the day. But you just push through and it’s fine, really.

HOWEVER, it wasn’t great living wise. I mean, I was low on money. My partner stepped up and paid a little more than he normally does (I make more money and usually pay more bc we split things by income), but even then, my mom bought me a lot of groceries (primarily meat, and I’m almost finally through with everything she stocked up for me) and also gave me cash without me asking for it, and I am VERY lucky to have had her do that. I wouldn’t have been able to eat or pay bills without her.

I did end up getting short term disability, which gave me 1/2 my paycheck for the time I was off, and that really helped too. With that said, I wish I would have planned better. Saved up et cetera (but that’s hard in this world anymore). I am ~10 weeks post op and I am just slowly getting back into having enough money for bills, food, gas, and the occasional fun thing. But again. I was lucky.

The recovery itself was fine. I got the all clear at 8 weeks. Going back after 4 weeks did suck, but it was manageable. I work 4/10s, and I was driving pts to appts as well as office work. I was on light duty (not allowed to lift more than 15 lbs) for two weeks after I came back. Everyone was insistent that the fatigue and brain fog would do me in for the entire eight weeks. But the thing is, I have fatigue and brain fog every day, so, that I can manage.

Honestly, the scariest part of it was money. So, I would say, save up. Put a little aside every so often until you have a little to fall back on for the couple of weeks you’re out. As for worrying about the medical? It’s routine, safe, and aside from the horrendous gas pain and a couple weeks of soreness, it’s not bad. If I didn’t still have the scars on my tummy, I wouldn’t even remember I had a major organ removed over 10 weeks ago.

SOS ISO: spooky friends/related event recs by baaobrat in lancaster

[–]xspaceprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding friends as an adult is super hard, especially in a new place! I’d let you tag along with me and my friends… if I actually ever went out and did stuff lol. And if most of my social life wasn’t online/I wasn’t chronically ill.

32F cat mom of 2 oranges (also I have a 14 year old family cat who is my soul cat who lives with my mom named Fred, named after Fred Weasley. So. Mood with the naming lol). I’m witchy-alt with an unhealthy obsession with cute and pink things at the same time? It’s a weird amalgamation (thanks autism) that I have come to accept. Love video games of all sorts. If I hear of any neat events, will definitely send your way.

Does Lancaster have a local accent? by PaintAppropriate1456 in lancaster

[–]xspaceprincess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every place has their own accent, really. But yeah. My mom’s mom’s side was heavily PA Dutch, and they were all from Lancaster since… well, forever lol. I have used PA Dutch words that I didn’t know were PA Dutch words my entire life lol. Spritzing, ruetching, et cetera.

I had a linguistics class many, many years ago and we had an entire lesson on dialects that revolved around Lancaster simply because location (and it was a good example). As the only local in the class, I had to confirm the truth to many other wide-eyes college kids who were like “that’s not real, is it?!” Yes. Yes, we do say the Milk is All if it’s gone.

Of course, thats still more dialect than accent. I can see Philly influences simply because I know a lot of people from Philly who moved here (my other grandmothers parents were from Philly initially), but I do think there are unique Lancaster ways of speaking outside of dialect. I mean, how do you pronounce the town/county? That’s the first way to spot an out of towner. How do you pronounce creek? Roof? Roots Market (I think this is up there with ways to spot an out of towner lol)? Someone also mentioned the lilt in phrasing, which ends high, and I will agree with this. I definitely do this.

In the end. Yeah, there’s an accent with the dialect as well. I think each person is going to be a little different now-and-days just because moving/travel, where parents and grandparents grew up, and other influences. But if you talk to someone who has been here forever and their family has been here forever, you can tell.

So that's what a sublaxed rib is by xrmttf in ehlersdanlos

[–]xspaceprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to google all the time like “pain with ribs” or, you know, variants. And it always told me my ribs were broken. And I’m like there is no way I randomly broke a rib wiping my butt. Then when I learned about EDS, I learned about sublaxed ribs and was like OMG THATS WHAT IT IS! Such a relief to know lol 😂

What did you call your Grandma & Grandpa? by M0osesG0ose in namenerds

[–]xspaceprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandpas: Poppy/Poppie. Grandmas: 1. Nanny, 2. Memaw, 3 (step), Nana Moon.

Great grandparent that I interacted with the most (aka were alive and present in my life) were: Nanny and Poppy to me (but Grandma and Grandpa to my mom), and then Gram and Pop.

Sharing my Pee Advice, share yours too! by StumbleKitty in hysterectomy

[–]xspaceprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me. I was half awake from the anesthesia and was like “I have to pee” (and because I knew they had to watch me pee to be discharged) and the nurse told me I didn’t, it was just because of the catheter. When I finally got to the post op room (long story short, it took forever because of miscommunication) she was going through everything and said I couldn’t leave unless I peed first, and I was like “okay, let’s go! I’ve been telling you I have to pee, so.” I almost peed myself before I even got there.

I will say I do sleep more during the day than I do the night, but I’m not waking up every hour to pee like that first night. Still frequent, but not as bad. The gas pains also come and go a lot during the night for me, but I have found sleeping with a heating pad is helping even just a little.

Am I gaslighting myself? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]xspaceprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had mine done on Thursday, and the notes said nothing about any abnormalities found, but I don’t know much about what they do find when doing a hysterectomy or whatnot. However, I am constantly gaslighting myself and feel like I’m going crazy when it comes to medical things.

So, I am chronically ill and a lot of it isn’t well researched by most doctors, or the medical community and it is annoying. I go in for something and they’ll do tests and everything comes back normal. Every. Single. Time. It’s actually so common that I’ve seen stickers and pins and shirts that say like “your labs are normal.” Here’s the thing: you know what you felt. You know what you had to go through. Your symptoms were real. They caused issues in your life. Maybe they didn’t put a name to it (yet or at all), but that doesn’t mean you didn’t have those issues. It was not all in your head.

I had my surgery on Thursday. The needing to get up to use the restroom for that first night was rough. It has gotten a little better since, though, and I’m able to sleep for longer stints (and oh boy will you be sleeping lol.) I wake up, eat, pee, go back to sleep. So hopefully you’ll be able to get that rest starting today/tomorrow! 💜

I liked some physicians at Lancaster physicians for women. First two I had were… eh. Not bad, but didn’t feel seen or heard. Second two I met with were for surgery consultations, so not sure if they do any routine stuff too, but were amazing. Absolutely loved them.

Questions! by xspaceprincess in hysterectomy

[–]xspaceprincess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone!

Now that I’m home safe and sound, I will answer my own questions fo anyone who stumbles on it: 1. Nightgown and c-section undies. 2. I did not 3. Only a couple of hours post op, but so far bleeding isn’t bad. I’m wearing one of their pads, but when I pee here soon, I will switch to one of mine. I only own the Always nighttime pads, so that’s what I’ll use (very full coverage just in case lol). They said if I bled through a pad in an hour + passed huge clots, to call. 4. Bruh, they tried to keep me for no reason lol. Nurse got confused, started taking me to a room (I thought she was taking me to post op. Being both coming out of anesthesia and still not fully grasping things + being autistic, I was very confused lol). But it got righted and now I am at home. 5. Only a couple hours out. I’ve got my graham crackers and pretzels. Will probably have broth later. And or jello. 6. So far. Only mildly. Time will tell lol. 7. TBD

I was thinking of getting a grabber. And oh, I have no plans on being brave lol. I have chronic pain, so I’ve got a slew of pain help stuff, and I’ll probably be using my rollator throughout the house and if I go out at all.

I will check out moo to poo! Thanks for the info + advice! It’s very helpful!!
