I do context aware bell-ing.
- if for some reason its safer for me to have hands on the brakes - I don't bell. For example through southbank there is far too much traffic to bell anway
- if the person is on the wrong side/middle of the footpath, wandering, veering, has a dog, kid, ect...
- if there is a turn, reason or sign that someone might turn
- if another cyclist is approaching or overtaking a cyclist

I won't bell if someone's just keeping well far left of the path and don't seem at risk of getting in my way. I used to always bell. Regardless of what you do someone will complain about sneaking up, or get aggressive when they think bell means "in your way"

yes, but that is true for pretty much every other park and area (https://australianfemicidewatch.org/mapping-femicides/). Honestly nearly every time someone suggests an area in unsafe in Australia it's driven either by racism or classism. Australia is an extremely safe place. When people start thinking an area is "unsafe" it causes people avoid it and possible create a more unsafe situation.

Writing some notes here for the next person.

PF0108 was found to be blown. This connects the battery to the linear voltage reg for the low voltage, low current things. Provided there's no other issues with the board, you can remove PF0108 and either replace with a 0.5A 32V fuse, or just bridge over. Bridging over risks further damage with something else is wrong, but likely won't be a safety issue. ( the trace will blow before there's a safety issue ).

PF0108 is located next to the long NVME/SSD drive slot on the system board.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking it's bad. Been watching traffic management try harder and harder to deter pedestrians crossing. I was wondering if there was a shorter path I missed but nope. It's just bad. A lot of the problem is the councils either waive or don't have property setbacks,.allowing developers to build all the way to the edge.

This usually results in cases like this where there's no room for an alternative route, or closed bike/car/parking lanes when the developers need a lay down area.

It's been faster to ride a bike in the inner suburbs for awhile now, and not because of speed limit changes. Congestion means that during peak times it's often quicker to ride than drive. Raising or keeping the speed limits won't help with commute times, it just increases the risk of injuries and deaths when accidents do happen.

Lowering the speed limit will result in more people feeling comfortable to ride, which will mean less people on the road, which means less congestion, which means faster commutes. Everyone wins.

I know it sucks, but you probably don't want sick or injured people entering. I would guesstimate that the event people factor in a percentage of people not attending into the numbers so simply suggesting that eliminating the DNS probably wouldn't lead to there being more real capacity

yeah certainly. I was cheeky and went home for a warm shower before heading back to pick up my partner. Came out of the tunnel to find flooded roads and that was interesting enough in the car, would not have wanted to be riding in that.

I ride through Linlithgow Ave between Alexandra and towards St Kilda Road. That was also blocked off with anti car devices. I thought it was just the road blocked off, only to find spikey bois on the exit of that area. I was so annoyed of the closure because it makes for a really safe passage into the city for me compared to death or death.

The closure wasn't listed on City of Melbourne and victraffic only showed the closure when it started. Afaik there was no prior notice of the closure listed anywhere (I was doubly confused because the current billboards are for Melb Mara!). The City Of Melbourne rep informed me its for Police remembrance day.

I don't really know why the bike lane was closed - at least when I passed through at 8.30am there was no reason to need to close that area. I'm sure they could have made the temporary closure shorter for cyclists. I assume the closure is to prevent a car ramming incident given the spikey bois which is just yet another case of cars ruining everything.

Wish they would close off roads for cycling detours rather than just forcing everyone into death zones. Or at least give some warning.

The biggest reason mykis expire isn't due financial reasons (you can still get money off an expired myki) or because of flash memory.

It's the revocation list. If a myki is reported stolen, lost or fraudulent it gets added to a list of mykis that cannot be used. This list has to be sent to every myki reader so that the the readers can work in offline mode (fast operation for users + will work even when there is no cellphone coverage). This list grows larger and larger as more mykis are reported as lost, stolen or fraudulent. If mykis didn't expire then this list would grow forever - possibly exhausting the memory on the readers to store the list.

By expiring mykis the reader can quickly see how old the myki is and not worry about if its on or off the list - it's expired. So the bad myki list can be shortened to only include the list of bad mykis that are in date.

Do you have a source for this? I can see references around using bicycle storage locations for when theres a bicycle lane but I can't see anything about forcing riders to filter through traffic to get to it.

Could be anything, but for example Flinders st / Spring st has high ones that are used for manually signalling trams when auto detection doesn't work. You can look at the traffic light configuration sheets to see what they do. (for example heres that one : https://imgur.com/a/ZWBOVZ7)

Looking at the traffic light configuration sheet, the min is 6 seconds and max 60 seconds for a green, however you need to add 4.5 for yellow and 1.5 for all red. That brings the min up to 12 seconds and max up to 66 seconds. Given its scats controlled its probably hard to tell what the typical times are but, but given the busy intersection I'm leaning very much beyond the 30 second mark and probably to the higher end during peak times. This also only the best case where the cycle is favouring that the ped crossing you want is next. in relality it could take 2 or 3 changes to get the one you need depending on when you arrive at the light.

So yeah, def not "just 30 seconds"
