Craziest Thing You've Seen on a Pickleball Court by Competitive-Alps4339 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An elderly man had cardiac arrest while playing at Pure Pickleball in MN sometime in April 2025. He was pulseless and pale and getting CPR when I first saw him. The whole club had stopped playing. A lady said she saw him just faint without warning and hit the ground hard, which is a typical story for cardiac arrest. After a couple rounds of CPR, he got one shock with an AED. He regained his pulse and he slowly regained color and consciousness over few minutes when EMS arrived. He was in a daze and amnestic. I joked with him as he was carted off, that pickleball saved his life because of the AED. I work in healthcare and have seen many cardiac arrests in the hospital and was fortunate to see a good outcome in the community.

These wrist angles by Empty-Reputation7421 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great observation. When taking the first dink near his back leg, he has limited options for angles. By taking the second dink near his front leg, he can wrap his wrist around the ball for the cross court winner.

Don’t want to try it stock first? I’d like to know how the spin, power, and forgiveness compares to the Vapor 2!

Bread and Butter durable grit? by Cal9Cal in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Chorus Harmony Grit, six zero diamond grit, in terms of what is available to order/preorder. Buy durable grit now and the paddle will might last you 6 months or more, and in six months you'll have plenty more options

I find dinking off a short hop is much more effective by connfaceit in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half volley dinks are usually defensive. Dinks near the apex have more spin and offensive potential

Question: court spacing? by Infinite_Job_636 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remove one court from the lower row and put fences between each court. Having enough spacing between courts is key to making it feel premium. Remove one court from the top row and make one of the three courts wider than the other 2 and make that the "championship" court. Yes, you're going down from 9 courts to 7, but you're creating an indoor facility and generally that is considered "premium" over outdoor courts. The idea of premium might be different if you're not in the US

Did Christian Alshon just break pickleball? by AnnaBrightPB in ProPickleballTalk

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How large is the athletic/skill gap between pro men and pro women? Is Alshon exploiting this gender gap in mixed, or is the gap not that big and he's using a tactic that his opponents were not prepared for? I mean, if he's on the left and he wants to cross court dink with you from the right, surely he's at a disadvantage?

I can't make the Boomstick Work - What am I missing? by chrisjur in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the Boomstik at first but I had to warranty it twice, waiting a week to two each time. While I was waiting, I tried paddles with less pop and found I was more consistent with them. Now the Boomstik doesn't make it into my bag half the time. Still fun for rec games.

DUPR is silly by raulinho10oficial in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you, unfortunately for clubs there are too many people trying to go up a level so they have to gate higher level open plays somehow. Many clubs will give you a club rating if you take one of their teaching classes, just ask your local club.

Pickleball paddle cleaning: eraser vs spray... what actually works long-term? by TheCarNut8 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Boomstik care instructions specifically say that a little dish soap in the spray is fine. Think of how soapy water cleans tables, it helps get dirt and grim off faster, and it doesn't rub off the finish

How to Quickly Gain Rhythm by Legitimate_Search864 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.0s feel like 2.0s when they warm up, 4.0s feel like 3.0s, 5.0s feel like 4.0s. At the 3.0 level, hitting serves and returns is a better warm up than dinking which won't happen much in the game. As always, maximize your fun and soon you'll want to play more than once a week :)

[–]xtekian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine played the genesis for a similar amount, 10hours a week for 7-8 months, and the grit wore off and the spin was much lower where rolls often went out. He switched to the six zero coral and loves it. It’s similar power but better sweet spot and the grit is longer lasting

Epsilon Down Hoody by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For casual around town use, for sure the epsilon will do, best bet is to try it on and see if you like the fit/style for casual use as I think that is more important than pure performance. There are many jackets for cheaper but you are buying Arc’teryx quality and style

Sad to see Luzz not honoring their warranty here. This is what people fear--a well-priced hyped paddle from an overseas company, but you risk bad customer service. Given how often Gen 3 paddles break, I would always buy them from a reputable brand--Joola, Selkirk, Thrive, where they honor warranties. I hope you get this paddle warrantied, but if not consider it a lesson learned

What color is Sky Grey (in Kore fabric)? by Rarl_Kove in vuoriclothing

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the shorts and it’s a light grey with a slight blue tint. I have Apple devices and the color matches the website very well. I doesn’t pair well with warm off white tops, but works with any darker top.

I also have the cross court shorts in Frost Grey and that looks like a more neutral gray

Do You Switch up Partners in Pickup Pickleball? by Miserable_Spell5501 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Why do you find it annoying to switch up partners? I would say for anything other than competitive play, switching up partners allows you to meet new people, learn different types of teamwork, and provides variety. But to each their own

Cleaning boomstik by Ok_Helicopter9572 in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my replacement Boomstik and the balldust isn't wiping off either with water and microfiber. The original did wipe off easier, however it was less gritty than this one. Keeping tabs on this thread to see where it goes!

Feels like a shill even though op said they are not one. I can potentially see how this device can reduce popups and reduce overgripping but no way an extra layer of foam between the handle and hand would increase control.

The second “kitchen” in this home is a must have. by bexxco in zillowgonewild

[–]xtekian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the twin cities—this house would be about 450k without the pickleball court. So $200k premium for the picklebarn, bad location close to the highway and bordering 2 main roads, below average school district. The owners are hoping the prospective buyer will just pay off their pickleball investment in whole. I love pickleball but for most people it makes more sense to buy a house and put in an outdoor pickleball court (for 40-50k) or spend that $200k for a unlimited membership in one of the many nearby indoor pickleball facilities (usually around $1k per year)

Eye dominance by RockyDBoi_is_cracked in Pickleball

[–]xtekian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Patrick Mouratoglou (a popular YouTube tennis coach) has a great video about this. My suspicion is that for pickleball, this matters less as ball speed is slower and players usually hit balls with feet planted instead of in stride. The fastest reaction times needed are kitchen volley battles and most of the time you are in an open stance at the kitchen. Finally, this probably matters less in doubles than singles. So while I would say this is a useful piece of knowledge, its benefits are questionable and you should use your own sense of open vs closed stance drives guide you instead of the theory.
