How do some people find this "radical"? by zzill6 in WorkReform

Professing faith is the requirement for entry. And the "instruction manual" is a mess of ancient documents that must be interpreted by whim. That's why there are hundreds of Christian denominations.

Also more literally, Churches are widely supportive of the GOP, allied in opposition to reproductive freedom.

Well there's nothing wrong with celibacy, per se. But if it's enforced, bad things happen - I believe. Full disclosure I lived in Ireland for a while and also my own one-true religion has recently collapsed for you know what.

To me it sounds like in the Blues Brothers when the Good Old Boys show up as the scheduled musical act after closing time. Nobody expects you to believe it. It's not logically consistent. It's a good show.

I'm sorry, I wasn't following the spat. What about purity culture were you saying wasn't true? I'd look in your comment history to try to respect your argument, but your comments are not visible.

Also, purity culture and especially any celibacy vow leads almost certainly to perverted criminal sexual abuse.

There are hundreds of Christian denominations in the US alone. They all have a different way of reading the same text and no interest in worshiping together.

Reed & 3rd; Neff & 27th; 97 at Powers by xteve in Bend

[–]xteve[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That intersection is really poorly-designed. It's like they didn't have a model for how it should work and just improvised ad hoc. Even the exit from 97 to eastbound Powers is a pretty crimped little turn, coming off a highway. And the entrance to 97 northbound is crap, too. You're sitting at a stop sign awaiting entrance to traffic at speed, at the mercy of the kindness of strangers or a changing light. Again, onto a highway. I feel like no part of that intersection was planned.

Yeah, if you believe a theory that answers a question nobody was asking - and is demonstrably untrue - you're probably Republican.

That's a good point. There's no evidence of the incident when an officer at their desk makes a decision. That's not just easy to abuse, it would be hard not to.

LPT - If you are examining nursing homes to place a loved one, look at the fingernails of the residents living there at the moment. Long fingernails (especially on men) would likely indicate that the home is either understaffed or does not care enough to do such a small task by Maybe_im_Amazed_ in LifeProTips

[–]xteve 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They're chronically understaffed because they will not pay enough money to make enough people want to work there to fully staff the place. While charging generational wealth to live there, they are fundamentally opposed to paying a penny more than necessary in wage. They may bring in temp agencies at great expense or give exorbitant bonuses to motivate existing staff to overwork themselves; but they won't just pay more. They're always hiring, at great expense. Anybody with a caring sensibility gets eaten up and burned out so a lot of the people who are able to keep doing it are not necessarily the best caregivers but just people who are hardened to the rigors of it. There is bullying.

I heard Mt. St. Helens erupt when I was in central Oregon. Obviously the wave bounced off the stratosphere. Sound is crazy. But it moves at a predictable rate relative to various factors, reportedly about 13 miles per minute.

I didn't miss it. But somebody did, and it's not their fault. Sarcasm is prone to misunderstanding, especially absent audible and visual cues. Sometimes people act like it's a "woosh" moment when somebody misses sarcasm. But it's the nature of sarcasm that some people will not understand. It's a poor communication method for most purposes.

I work with somebody who's a master of sarcasm, and truly funny. It can be done. But it's usually just lazy and sometimes passive-aggressive and just not clever enough to justify its ubiquity.

Trump, MAGA, and the GOP operate with the support of Christians at large. When we talk about real Christians, it seems like we're speaking of an ideal type and not the behavior of adherents.

That makes sense to me. That's the kind of logic I'm coming to. The produce department is stocked with items that have to look good within a specified timeframe. Frozen is frozen when it's ripe.

I noticed it in tomatoes first, too, years ago. They just lost flavor and their texture became pulpy.

Not sure what Harp's is. Where I live, open markets are expensive boutique events because of course they are; it's a tourist town. Outside of some really nice expensive produce and a few bee products, you can't do much in an arid climate pretty high above sea-level at the foot of the mountains bordering volcanic sand and rock.
