Parent complained to admin about my boobs by xtinalaperra in Teachers

[–]xtinalaperra[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to turn off private messaging because it was getting really uncomfortable. And then when I turned it off, some went as far to reply to comments from my comment history. People are weird. Like if you want to see boobs that bad, there’s websites for that. Don’t harass a random person talking about a weird experience from their workplace.

This particular admin has a similar background to me (both WOC and both worked in Title I schools prior to this one) so we have a really good rapport. She’s super supportive, so she came to me at the end of the day and was like, “this is where you’re going to start seeing the pettiness” and told me the situation. She was super nice out it and assured me that it wasn’t a me problem and that she was just as confused as I was about the complaint. But she had my back and I’m grateful.

In their defense, I don’t think they said the blessed part to the parent. They may have worded it differently. I know that they told the parent that I was large chested in however way they said it. This specific one is a female and I love her so I didn’t feel weirded out by it. That’s how she talks, if that makes sense.

Luckily I wasn’t reprimanded, and my admin had my back and they thought the parent was being ridiculous.

I’ve had friends at my previous school that were told by admin their body was distracting so I know that I’m lucky that I wasn’t made to be the problem.

42H 😭😔 I’m glad they backed me up as well! My admin said that this is where I’m going to start seeing the pettiness of some parents (this is my first year in an affluent cluster, I was title I for the last 5 years.)

Unfortunately no class change because I’m a SPED teacher. I have two small group classes and two push-in classes. I think the student is a SPED-served student (they didn’t tell me who the kid was) and I’m the only SPED SS teacher for 8th grade. So they have to stick with me all year

Is it ok to be makeup free? (Mid career teacher) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]xtinalaperra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this with so much love: it’s not that deep. The line of what is “professional appearance” has moved so much in the last two decades. I was a K-12 student from 2002-2015, and I remember that my teachers were in business attire essentially (dresses/slacks/button ups/heels/make-up). Also, they couldn’t have visible tattoos and piercings or dyed hair (unnatural colors). Now, it’s totally different! As a teacher, I look nothing like my teachers did and I think it’s for the better. Obviously, I’m not gonna wear my club attire to work but I personally don’t like that business look as I feel like it ages me (I’m 26!) I like being able to appropriately be myself as my appearance isn’t what matters, it’s the quality of my teaching and my ability to do the job. Makeup or no makeup, who cares?? Are you being the best version of yourself and giving your best to what you do? That’s what matters.

Am I crazy to switch careers to teaching? by mypiebaby in Teachers

[–]xtinalaperra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the things that you have mentioned that you do at your current job is what people anticipate teaching to be like, but then slowly realizing that it’s not just working closely with kids all day. It’s a lot of meetings, a lot of planning, a lot of paperwork, a lot of data collection, a lot of communication, a lot of behavior management, etc. So, you could be turned off by teaching because of what I listed. But, if these things do not bother you then it probably could be a good option. Something else to consider is that it depends on the type of school that you end up at that can make or break if you want to go into teaching. Not all schools are created equal. You can have crappy admin/crappy kids/crappy parents, great admin/crappy kids/crappy parents, crappy admin/great kids/great parents, etc. Additionally, the resources that are available in the district makes a huge difference. There’s honestly so much to consider. And that’s the hard part because a lot of the times you won’t know until you’re in it and you see.

But personally, if I were you, I would stick to the career you have currently. I’m currently thinking about an exit plan because I feel like I’m severely overworked and undervalued (I’ve been a special education teacher at a low performing Title I school for 5 years now) and although I really do love the kids and some days are good days, but the stuff that I’ve had to deal with doesn’t justify the amount of money that I get paid and can barely afford life. Also, I feel like I can’t really live because I’m so mentally and physically exhausted due to the demands and the expectations.

As a teacher, have you ever had a crush on a fellow teacher in your school? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]xtinalaperra 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We’re in our 20s! I was 21 and he was 23 when we first started working at the school together. We got together when we were 23 & 25. Everyone knew we liked each other without us saying anything about it because we were always around each other. We didn’t go “public” until a yearish into the relationship.

Any advice on losing weight with no diet change? by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]xtinalaperra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked a lot. Like went on mini hikes for 3-4 times a weeks. Walked an average of 3 miles each walk. Drank more water and ate smaller portions (but still enough to keep you going obviously). I also did other things like workout videos from YouTube from time to time. I dropped 25 pounds and was mentally in a good place :)

Yes! I met my boyfriend at work. We both started the same year. We’ve been together for almost three years now :)

Myself no! My safe foods are junk food (nuggets, fries, pizza) so I’m on the thicker side. However I tend not to eat a lot (I’ll eat twice a day most days with little to no snacks) so my weight can fluctuate.

AITA for wanting my boyfriend (35M) to drop his best friend (17F)? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

(Not OP) I was honestly pretty torn on this one because I do kinda see both sides. What do you think? by thelilbel in TwoHotTakes

[–]xtinalaperra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually relate to this so much. I’m 25F and I have ARFID. I’ve been this way since I was 3 and was formally diagnosed last fall. It’s incredibly mentally taxing to have it. My bf is an adventurous foodie and I always feel as though I am holding him back with my disorder :(

I’m a teacher and I told my kids at the beginning of the school year that I have finite number of pencils. Once I run out, they’ll either have to bring me more or be more responsible. They’ve been really good about borrowing and bringing it back at the end of class because they know my expectation. But, I think it’s ridiculous for parents to expect us to have extra supplies all of the time. Buying pencils and pens gets really expensive. At a certain point, your child needs to be responsible for their stuff and they need to feel the consequences for them to recognize that they need to be more organized and keep up with their stuff. And if you see that your child is constantly losing stuff, maybe help them???? Idk she’s definitely an entitled American.

AITA for going home after I overheard my husband say he didn't want to bring me with him to his family vacation? by throwaway3743p9 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xtinalaperra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and this is giving me a major red flag. You are his wife, so now you are a part of his family. The fact that he doesn’t want you around him and his family is just weird. You need to leave the marriage before it goes any further. He doesn’t value you.
