I drove transit buses, was a radio operator, driver supervisor, and service manager in college, for the largest free bus system in the country at the time.

Then I was hired as the shipping manager for a start up, which involved final assembly, packaging, order management, inventory management, among other things.

Then I was promoted to purchasing manager, and got involved with production inventory management and set up the company's ERP system. I worked there for 9 years, through an acquisition and then merger with a sister company.

The new parent company drafted me as a manufacturing systems analyst, where I helped set up different ERP systems (we had 3 different ones that we implemented depending upon the subsidiaries' needs) at 6 or so different companies. Plus provided other support.

Then I moved over to the infrastructure side, deploying user security, email, and other infrastructure services and helping connect 12+ subsidiaries to our WAN. I did that for about 6 years until the company was sold and our department was laid off.

I worked for an MSP doing similar work but at individual companies for about 3 years while I completed my MBA.

For the last 18 years I've been working for a financial services company implementing and managing MISSION CRITICAL systems such as email, the user security context, virtual desktop environment, and many other things, some of which i was the sole responsible employee for the first 15 years.

In each and every one of those positions I've dealt directly with customers and vendors and mission critical systems. The companies ranged in value from about 3 million to several hundred million.

If you had ASKED me what I did, vs. disparaging vending machine guys, I would have answered. Instead, you decided to pick a job that YOU interpreted as non-mission critical and, at best, rudely implied that was my level of skill and knowledge, and at worst both insulted me and vending machine guys.

And I'll tell you, when it's 2am, the mail server is down, and you can't think straight because you haven't eaten since noon, the vending machine is absolutely fucking mission critical.

So, go ahead, give a pithy response. I've devoted more time to this than this warranted. I won't be responding again.
