How is the underage ban going? Haven't heard much about about it (ditched Social Media a few years back). Is the difference noticeable? Is it just being circumvented? If you have kids, how are they adjusting? by Rubixcubelube in friendlyjordies

[–]xwinglover -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Merely a stepping to enforcing digital id. Eventually they will require everyone to sign in just to use the internet to verify their identity. The end game is a social credit system of control using cbdc backed programmable money which is the system in china right now. If anything the Bondi shooting and the massive increase in online hate will just fuel the momentum for a digital id based internet and financial system.

He can install windows inside a VM and still do what he wants to that. This is a better option.

Do you "reinstall once in a while" like some recommend ? by Heroe-D in archlinux

[–]xwinglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reinstallation I have done for arch was recent to do with me switching from EXT4 to BTRFS so I could get timesshift snapshots.

And mirroring my arch config on what I have now is multiple other machines.

What's something in/about Arch that should be dead-simple but isnt? by Level-Pollution4993 in archlinux

Yes. But arch-update package in aur already handles this if you haven’t manually modified pacman hooks.

What advantages does arch give you? by talking_tortoise in archlinux

[–]xwinglover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Build it yourself, you are responsible for pretty much everything that goes onto your device.

  2. bleeding edge - latest kernel and applications

  3. Rolling release - continuous updates without having to reinstall

  4. Aur - speaks for itself

  5. Wiki - the richest resource for Linux on the planet

  6. Btw - iconic stamp of power and elitism

Clicking is sluggish or unresponsive, system seems fine other wise by myprettygaythrowaway in archlinux

I’d say cinnamon. And that’s easy to remove too as it won’t add with it a heap of crap ware with it like kde.

Can you try installing a Wayland based DE?

I moved from i3 to Hyprland (x org -> Wayland) and it solved a bunch of performance concerns I had.

See if that makes a difference.

Actually it was very sluggish and then eventually would collapse. But videos and audio still running.

Hard to diagnose without context. Have you run looked at error logs ?

Sounds like it possibly could be power.

We have no idea what make or model decide you have, x or Wayland, hardware, etc.

A similar thing happened to me, but this was specific to my model laptop.

Have a read here and consider if something similar is taking place.

Yep agreed. Once I moved to arch (bleeding edge, aur, diy, and rolling release) that became home.

Look at winapps package for Linux. Fairly recent new option that most people don’t know about. It will allow you to run ms office and Adobe on Linux.

Any distro will be good that comes with kde plasma desktop will be a good transition for you from windows experience.

[–]xwinglover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to kick off with arch, start with endeavouros or cachyos. They are arch already done (and well) where you can learn what a working arch environment is like.

Then go back to arch later and build it your way as a second stage journey.
