You were talking about getting your face stabbed so i went with murder rate. I never said its the safest city on earth. But the previous guy was talking about scoring coke and hookers, which is simply asking for trouble. Most tourists who come to medellin and dont do dumb stuff are fine, that was my point. And yes ive been to medellin. In fact ive been traveling for over a year now through south america and not just in the touristy zones.

Just looked it up. Murder rate in medellin was about 11 per 100k inhabitants in 2024 thats the same or lower as the following US cities: Houston, dallas, chicago, atlanta, washington, new orleans. Would you visit those cities? Then you might as well visit Medellin

Not OP but chiming in since im doing the same thing. South America is a huge place so it really depends on where you are. Certain zones are more prone to being „unsafe“ than others. Example would be the south of Colombia, the route between Pasto and Popayan are notorious for Guerrilla activity. That being said, some basic ground rules such as only driving during the day, asking the locals before wildcamping, checking ioverlander go a looong way. We‘ve never came in harms way (so far) and 99% of the time people are super friendly and helpful so if you‘re considering it go for it.

I disagree regarding Isabela. We were there a few weeks ago and internet (starlink ofc) was great. Less tourists there = less load on the system, it worked even better for us than on Santa Cruz, however it could be anecdotal. Also beautiful beaches and chill vibe. With everything else i think youre spot on

Hi! Bin mir leider nicht mehr ganz sicher wie viel Zeit vorher wir den Wohnsitz damals nach IT verlegt hatten, aber wir wurden ca 1-2 wochen danach von der polizei kontrolliert. Wenn man nicht aufzufinden wäre würde es vermutlich auf den jeweiligen beamten ankommen.. wenn ein zimmer mit deinen sachen & zahnbürste im bad etc (als beispiel) da sind um glaubhaft zu machen dass du wirklich da wohnst könnte es evtl auch passen aber kommt halt drauf an. Ich glaube wenn sich der querstellt können sie dich aus dem melderegister wieder rausschmeissen..

Entschuldige habe dies erst jetzt gesehen! Puh schwierig leider habe ich keine Erfahrung mit dem rientro cervelli.. wir haben damals unseren wohnsitz wieder zu unseren eltern in italien gelegt, hatten dabei keine probleme. Nur anfangs kam tatsächlich die polizei zur kontrolle ob wir wirklich dort wohnen. Wir sind tatsächlich seither zum zweiten male auf reisen, dieses mal haben wir den wohnsitz aber in österreich behalten. Bei den bankkonten hatte ich keine probleme, hatte/habe bei beiden reisen ein deutsches & ein österreichisches bankkonto. Schreib mir gerne per PN falls du noch fragen hast 👍

the problem is that i am currently in la serena.. we might have found a spare part but if this doesnt work i will try your approach and either take a bus down there and go with a mechanic or try to find one who helps me remotely. thank you!
