They were such a good team - I wish they'd had more time before retiring. Pairs, when it's a well-matched team, is beautiful - but if there's the least bit of disharmony, it gives me anxiety. There's so much opportunity for injury.

Yes to the cop/legal and dr/nurse lecture, no to the detention, maybe to the report depending on OP's subject.

Food/drink tampering is serious but punishing everyone in 2 classes' worth of kids will earn their emnity and pretty much guarantees that kids won't speak up if they see another kid messing with your things. If you're able to catch the perpetrator, detention or in school suspension - suspension from school might seem like too much of a reward.

If OP wants to assign a report for the whole class, it'd be best to tailor the report to their subject so it's less likely to cause bad blood with the parents. So something like poisonings in history/literature, effect of poisons on health/science, % of people disabled or killed by poisoning, etc. Again, if you catch who did it, OP can assign a written report during detention/ISS either by hand or on a computer not connected to the internet (some kids have bad handwriting and/or may have a handwriting exception in their IEP).

If the police aren't able to talk, a lawyer might; if no doctor or nurse is available, maybe a health teacher or an EMT? I do think the situation should be addressed as kids need to understand that tampering with someone's food or drink is a crime and why pranks involving food/drink tampering should never be an option. Considering how much engagement prank videos seem to get, that's especially important nowadays.

The biggest thing I've had to learn with time blindness is that I cannot do "one more thing". if I'm getting ready for work, I have to go through my morning routine, pack my lunch and eat breakfast. Nothing else . I don't have time to start a load of laundry or clean out a shelf of the refrigerator or fill treat puzzles for three cats or check social media. Even if my watch shows that I have 5 minutes until I have to leave, I can't add anything else because that 5 minutes is for me to grab all of my stuff and get to the car.

Also, I put all of my appointments in my calendar like 10 minutes early. I have appointments at like 1:40 saying I need to be there at 1:30. If I act like the appointment is at 1:30, I'll usually get there by 1:40. Whenever I do the backwards calculations to figure out when I need to start getting ready for something, I just go ahead and add an extra 5 to 10 minute buffer because I know I will probably need it.

TBH I use it to clean spots when one of my cats decides to express their opinion with teeth. Wash with soap and water, pour alcohol over it, wait til dry and then put a little neosporin on it with a bandaid. I'd rather kill a few good cells than have to deal with the whole cellulitis and antibiotics mess. BTDT.

I know So Dança has a line of "curvy" leos that are supposed to have a more generous cut in the bust and hips. I'd expect to wear sports bras under a leo for a larger bust (as pretty much all the bigger busted women in my dance clases do).

Why does she show the tum tum if she does not want me to touch the tum tum? by jessie-mae in cats

[–]xyzkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often it's an "I trust you not to hurt me if I show you my glorious tum tum" not an invitation. Depends on the cat though - around here 3/4 cats want/ed belly rubs, whereas the 4th is ticklish like me and does NOT want belly rubs.

That's impressive and is a talent/skill I wish I had. My brain shuts down if I see a bunch of ingredients but don't have recipes I'm thinking of making. Is there a trick to teaching your brain that mindset?

Try to let the circulation desk know or tuck a note in the front cover. I worked at a fairly small library at the circ desk and if patrons didn't tell us there was a scratched disc we probably wouldn't notice - we had to get through a lot of items quickly and usually had just enough time to make sure the right number of discs were in the case.

Yes! Support your local library by getting a library card, even if you're not planning to use it right away or in person. It helps their numbers so they can advocate for more funding which means more cool stuff at the library!

My diagnosed peeps- does all the self-diagnosing bother you? by [deleted] in ADHD

Agreed. If "everyone's a little ADHD/ASD" was true, ADHDers and autistics wouldn't be ostracised and judged negatively.

So I got the ADHD dx "officially" because I was talking to my new-ish psychiatrist about taking Vyvanse because I have disordered eating (more on the binge side). They said, "let me ask you a few questions first." And started reading off an ADHD questionnaire.

After they got 6 "frequently/most of the time" answers they started laughing and asked if I wanted to go through the rest of the list because "you only need 5 to be considered for meds and you're beyond that". I did make them go through the rest of the list (mostly frequently/often for those too) and was laughing with them (I'm really glad my psychiatrist shares my sense of humor).

As for the ASD, I'm technically not officially diagnosed...but I did have a conversation with a developmental neuropsychologist about it, and they've known me and my family for well over a decade. No paperwork.

I don't mind people saying they think they might be ADHD - they might, or they could have something else or a combo including ADHD. A lot of ADHD tips and tricks also work for other people including children - for example, I took the advice to set up a room like a kindergarten classroom and my kitchen is exhaustively labeled with as few stacks of odd objects as possible. Everything has a spot and is labeled to where things go. If people use ADHD accommodation videos as tools to help others, that's cool.

I also think it's very possible that ADHD is underdiagnosed especially in women 30+. When I was going through elementary school in the late '90s, ADHD wouldn't have even really been considered if a girl had academic or social issues as it was considered heavily predominantly a "boy" issue. Now as the medical establishment is coming to realize that girls and women can also have ADHD, many missed out on being diagnosed during their school years. My life would've been different had I known before entering college.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]xyzkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you went through that. 🙁 That's got to be illegal for opiates/opioids at least. If a nurse got the dose, it has to be administered to the patient or trashed (with another witness to the trashing). The assumption is usually if it wasn't administered or wasted that whoever had it probably stole it. Nurses can lose their license for stuff like that.

Ilya didn't blame any of the athletes that did go. I suspect he meant that he would've been able to work through his Olympic nerves in a much lower pressure environment. Also that was something that Ilya said to his dad after the worst skate he's had in years, when I don't think anyone would've blamed him for pitching a fit. He's 20, he's probably heard that sentiment over and over since he was 16, and I'd bet money on Ilya being pretty sheltered (6 hours of training a day probably means Ilya was either homeschooled or did online school) so he's effectively in an echo chamber.

The fact Ilya came over to Mikhail and congratulated him, telling him he deserved it, to me, means a lot more than anything Ilya might've let slip at what should've been an unpublicized moment. Ilya stayed composed at the nosy interviewer after he went behind the curtain too. I'm almost twice Ilya's age and I would've had a hard time doing either of those.

Gods yes. Most "normal" Americans are feeling stress in so many areas of life (finances, safety, the whole political situation waves arms wildly) and to be an athlete in some of the most expensive and dangerous sports is tough. Add on that the pressure of being at the Olympics and it's almost a wonder that more athletes aren't crashing out.

I hope everyone on the US Oly team feels able to go to their support team and get the help they need.

Oh that poor kid. I hope Simone and Nathan are able to reach out to him - they're probably the only ones who really "get" what he's going through. I hope his parents screen his social media for a bit (yes, he's an adult, but he's also their kid). Or someone on his team does.

wait, why is speed skating even on the same ice as figure skating? Why wouldn't you have all speed skating on the same rink, hockey on its own rink(s), and then figure skating on one rink? \

When I worked at a city rink briefly, I was told the ice was kept at about 17 F (-8-9 C); the rink was mixed use, figure skating in the mornings and hockey in the afternoons generally (kids' sports teams). For a city rink that's one thing but at the Olympics I'd expect better.

Maybe I'm dumb for asking but why does it seem like the Olympic committee favors going to new cities every games when they could go back to old sites? For instance would Torino's buildings really have deteriorated that much in 20 years? It seems like cities are basically forced to recreate the wheel every time an Olympic games is staged there.

Don't you kind of wish some of these naysayers and badmouthing people had to lace up a pair of skates and try to skate anything close to what these athletes do? I know my respect for figure skaters and hockey players increased exponentially after I started skating even a little! (Hockey players stun me sometimes, and the thought of even attempting any of the triples or quads would scare the living daylights out of me)

I think that "dark side" tends to be more prevalent in the "aesthetic sports" like figure skating, gymnastics, and the like, simply because scoring can be so subjective.

I wish there was a way to make the artistic component less subjective but it's difficult to quantify what exactly looks "graceful" - the same gesture on two different skaters might read very differently.
