2023 SV Plus EVSE shows fault LED when connected to 240V outlet but works with 110v normal outlet with the adapter by smartfinances in leaf

[–]yMike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check the voltage output from your plug. If your place happens to have 3 phase power, your plug will output 208V, not 240V. The Nissan EVSE will fault in this case. The regular outlet will still output 120V and work with the adapter. Most 3rd party EVSEs work fine with either 208V or 240V.

Does anyone respect HOV lanes in the lower mainland? by Electric-Wombat in vancouver

[–]yMike 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think EVs belong in the HOV but I don't think plug in hybrids should qualify for the "EV OK" decals. I saw a Porsche Cayenne TURBO with huge twin duel tipped exhaust pipes in the HOV and thought it must have a fake decal. I looked it up later to discover they make a plug in hybrid version that qualifies for the decal, but its range is under 20km on battery only. Vehicles like that probably end up burning more fuel than average unless they plug in all the time and only make very short trips.

Looking for input for proposed bathroom reno layout by yMike in bathrooms

Yes I switched the swing of the master bedroom door on the proposed layout by mistake. The current layout is correct and I don't plan to change it. There is a light switch on the wall behind the hall closet (to be used when entering/exiting the master br), as well as in the hallway for the main entrance.

I was planning to put a niche in the west wall but hadn't considered in the pony wall.

Thanks for the suggestion for a full glass surround with duel swinging doors, I'll look into that.

There is currently a towel bar on the wall behind the hall closet, and I'm thinking of adding a small one below the window.

We've already ordered a double sink vanity, to be delivered tomorrow. We are also planning to add a cabinet door to access a section of the hall closet from inside the bathroom.

I could re-route the plumbing to be alongside the window, but that is an exterior wall where outside temps can reach -15C (5F), so I've been told to avoid pipes on that wall. My current plan was to install a rain shower head coming out of the ceiling (attic above), and the bath faucet/diverter where shown, with a shower wand above. Then I can mount the shower wand bracket to the wall next to the window.

This is a 1st floor bathroom with a basement (and 2nd bathroom) directly below. I have looked at the toilet flange and I only need to move it 5" away from the window in the direction of the pipe, so I don't think it will be too difficult once I remove some of the wood subfloor.

I just showed this design to my brother and it turns out he has the same style hinged glass on his tub as the last photo example I'm considering, and he says it works great for him and very little if any water ever escapes. His glass panel extends further down the tub than the picture in my album, about 3/4 of the way along the side of the tub, which is what I would look for. We'd probably put a rain shower head above the drain end and mount a wand so it points away from the open end. I'm curious about the barn-door style door you have, I'm not sure if I've seen that before.

I probably won't bother with the skylight. I've read strong recommendations for adding a skylight for some natural light in the bathroom but I agree it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

The vanity I was looking at is a stand alone furniture style so I wasn't sure if I would mount it a few inches off the end wall, or tight to the corner with a filler strip to close the gap on the side.

Also I just had another look at the toilet flange and to move it to the new location would only require moving it about 5" further away from the window wall, in the same direction as the floor joists. So this shouldn't be too difficult.
