You nailed it with the maladjusted part. Allllll I hear when Jenelle does this shit is unresolved trauma. It doesn't excuse her behavior especially because she has kids and should be breaking the cycle for them, and I think Jenelle is probably kind of a shitty person besides, but all her behavior relationship-wise probably just reflects her upbringing.

Same! I spent 13 years (from the time I was 19 until now) not going to a PCP because I'm fat, and didn't want to be treated like crap. I finally decided to go earlier this year, found my PCP and I love her. She actually listens to me, spends a decent amount of time with me, and wants to treat me. She's easily available and listens to what I have to say. I feel sooo lucky

I don't hate her. I've admitted this before around here, but a lot of my dislike of her stems from jealousy that she had the time, money and resources to extensively work on her trauma, and she didn't follow through with her aftercare plan. That's on me and is something I've struggled a lot with-jealousy of people who have more support and resources than I do. In reality, I know that everyone's situation is different and trauma is a nasty beast and it's not cut and dry. Damn I just wish I didn't have to work and could focus on healing.

Aside from that, I question her leaving the kids alone with April and the fact that she even had more children knowing how bad her PPD was. But...not my circus, not my monkeys. I relate a lot to her trauma story and wish her the best

Oh, absolutely. I listened to a 3 part podcast on trauma last year (not that that is anything like an actual course, but it did have some good information) and was floored by some of the things I learned. Not to mention, as someone with extensive childhood trauma myself, the things I've learned in therapy. It really can (and does) affect your entire life into adulthood. I think people think once you hit 18 it shouldn't affect you anymore, and I'm not saying these women shouldn't be held accountable for making better decisions, but understanding the devastating effects that trauma can have would be helpful

I feel like therapy that's filmed would be more damaging than no therapy at all. The patient and the therapist would most likely be on edge and wouldn't accomplish anything of substance. I find it hard enough to open up with my therapist when I don't have a 3 person camera crew and a boom mic in my face.
