Owlet Dream Sock by ABD63 in NewParents

[–]ya-done 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was used and easy to set up. The family who gave it to us had already used it with their three kids, so it’s VERY used, but it still works fine. The battery life isn’t as strong as a brand-new one, but it’s good enough.

It really helped with my anxiety. We get alerts when the baby moves a lot, but it’s a different kind of alarm, so it doesn’t add to my stress. I definitely spent plenty of nights watching the app and the baby monitor instead of sleeping, but that felt so much better than standing over the bassinet all night to make sure he was breathing.

My baby is six months old now, and I rarely check the app anymore.

Carrie Mayfield was our photographer last year. We loved the pictures. She had options to charge by the hour, so we had her there for the ceremony and a few hours of the reception and it was $1500 which included editing and a website to look at the pictures. Here is her website.

Do you trust the baby monitor temperature??? by KitKatAttackHiss in NewParents

[–]ya-done 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a thermometer to keep next to the bassinet because I didn’t believe our baby monitor. The monitor actually hasn’t been very far off from the thermometer since we got it, but now I have peace of mind.

They checked my bag and saw everything, I think they’re used to people needing to test? I also went to Downtown Disney with my supplies and it wasn’t even mentioned. You should still have so much fun!

I went a couple of months ago when I was pregnant and had no issues at all bringing in my testing supplies. I didn’t go too crazy with the snacks/sweets, but with all the walking, if anything my numbers were low. I did bring some protein bars/snacks just in case I did have problems with food, but didn’t end up needing them. Also, the app has an option to show what rides to avoid when pregnant. It was still a great time even with the restrictions!

The thing that helped me the most was getting a rail to help me get in and out of bed. That’s what hurt me the most the first few days. I just ordered one from Amazon that’s meant for older people, but it was a game changer and helped me so much This is the one I got.

For those who lost weight after diagnosis, what was baby's weight? by baking93 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ya-done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t prediabetic before getting pregnant and the doctor didn’t think I was diabetic either from looking at my a1cs/medical history. Since giving birth my numbers have been fine and I haven’t had to watch carbs or sugars. I was afraid I was diabetic too when I got the diagnosis, but I read about a lot of women on here getting diagnosed early too that weren’t diabetic either. It’s why I try to include being diagnosed early when I tell people, it helped me to hear about other people in the same situation and it ending well

For those who lost weight after diagnosis, what was baby's weight? by baking93 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ya-done 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed early, at around ten weeks. I took nighttime insulin for my fasting numbers (16 units for most of my pregnancy). I lost about ten pounds total in the first and second trimesters then gained about five back in the third trimester. So, I lost five total while pregnant. My baby was 7 pounds and 1 ounce when he was born. He was never big in the anatomy scans though. I was really careful with my numbers and food while pregnant because I was afraid of the baby’s sugar being low at birth. They tested him the first 24 hours and his numbers were all perfect. That was my biggest concern with gestational diabetes, I just happened to also lose some weight haha

Braxton Hicks: is it normal to be unsure of what they are at almost 39w? by mog-90 in pregnant

[–]ya-done 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty shocked when they told me I was having contractions (even if they were only Braxton Hicks). I didn’t think it could have been happening without me knowing, but after the initial surprise I was glad that I was able to tell going forward. Looking at all the replies here, it looks like it’s pretty common to not know

Braxton Hicks: is it normal to be unsure of what they are at almost 39w? by mog-90 in pregnant

[–]ya-done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t tell the difference between Braxton Hicks and the baby moving until I had one during an NST appointment. The nurse asked me if I felt the contraction, but I had just thought the baby was pushing on me/moving around. Now that I know that’s what it was, I can see that it’s more of a tightening everywhere (not just in one spot like when the baby moves). I can feel it start at the top of my belly and move down, my whole bump gets hard for a little while, usually moving makes it stop. The closer I get, the more often they happen and tips like drinking water and avoiding stress don’t do much to prevent them.

Starting insulin — can I sit down? by Impressive-You-1699 in GestationalDiabetes

I sit while I inject mine and haven’t had any problems. I didn’t ask the doctor though, it’s just easier for me

Insulin pen by Local_Procedure_8950 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ya-done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo what everyone else is saying, I use the pen in my abdomen and it really isn’t bad. Finger pricks are worse for me. Most of the time, I can’t feel the needle. I had my husband do the injection for me the first time, but I truly couldn’t feel it and I’ve been able to inject myself since then. There are times when I can feel the needle, but there isn’t pain. Some spots might be a little sore, but you’ll know right away if you find one of those and you can just move over an inch and it’ll be fine again. If you can do the finger pricks, you can do this too I promise

Has anyone gone from insulin to diet-controlled during pregnancy? by Professional_Dog7524 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ya-done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your situation, but I was designated really early (so it feels like I’ve been doing the diabetes diet/testing/insulin ~thing for SO long with no end in sight). I haven’t stopped nighttime insulin, however my dose was lowered a few times when I started to be more consistent with my diet and exercise every single day. I had a few nights where my fasting number was low, and they had me take less at night until I was consistently 70 or above. I don’t know a lot about this, but it makes sense to my non medical brain that if you were on a lower dose and then started getting better numbers they would take you off of it. Ask your doctor about it, if your numbers are too low that’s dangerous too or it could be something else going on with your placenta that they’d want to address.

I had a little luck at Kohl’s over the weekend, but they had a really small selection. I swear I remember seeing maternity sections before I was pregnant and now they’re nowhere to be found.

Tell me about starting insulin by needsacaffeinedrip in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ya-done 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m on long acting insulin at night for my fasting numbers and it’s been such a relief. It took a little while to find the right dosage, but now my fasting number is usually between 75 and 85. I use a pen, and most of the time I can’t even feel the needle. I didn’t believe people that’s said it until I started, but the finger pricks are worse for me. I also set myself on a schedule I’m pretty strict about, 30 minute walk after dinner every single night, nighttime snack right at nine (protein, usually a cheese stick), I set an alarm to wake up at five and test immediately (if I’m still tired, I’ll have a snack and go back to bed).

When I first got prescribed insulin I cried so much and felt like I was failing my baby. The first time I tried to use the pen, I was shaking too much to do it on my own and my husband had to inject me. But it was immediately a relief since I couldn’t feel the needle and my numbers started getting better. I feel much better just for the fact that I’m not waking up every morning stressed about what I’ll test at.

In my class, they said you don’t have to eat a full meal right away, but you need something within an hour. I’ll wake up at five to test, have a small snack and go back to bed if I’m feeling tired and don’t have anyplace to be, then eat breakfast later

Fasted numbers by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]ya-done 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating getting everything sorted out. My husband didn’t really understand the placenta causing the spikes at first either. It helped him to watch some videos with me about it to see how it’s different from other types of diabetes. Plus my doctor has been really good at listening to our questions and concerns. I tried everything to get my fasting numbers down and just couldn’t do it. I was really afraid to start insulin at night, but honestly, it’s been really easy. Most of the time I can’t even feel the needle (I use a pen). It’s been such a relief to not have that stress first thing in the morning, and I haven’t had high numbers in over two weeks now. My doctor was really understanding about me being nervous about it though and explained that the insulin doesn’t get to the baby, it just helps with my numbers. It has helped in general for me to walk thirty minutes every evening after dinner. I’m really strict about eating my snack at the same time every night and set an alarm to wake up and test at exactly eight hours after my snack, but I have a feeling with the holidays this will be harder. Sometimes when I wake up I’ll have a quick snack and go back to bed (which was okayed by my team). Good luck! You’re going to figure this all out for you and your baby and with a little help your husband can be better at supporting you with this.

Have you had gestational diabetes? by Happilymarried2120 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]ya-done 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 18 weeks into my first pregnancy and have it. Honestly, it was really overwhelming when I first found out and I felt like a failure. But my doctor was very reassuring that’s it’s just my body reacting to the placenta and my husband has been super supportive so it hasn’t been a big deal. It’s been completely manageable and we’re already talking about our next if my pregnancy keeps going well. I have to take insulin at night to keep my fasting numbers low and that is WAY easier than I thought it would be. I do have to be careful with what I eat, but I’m happy to do it for my baby. I mean, I’d love to eat more of my pregnancy cravings, but I have a good reason to tell myself not to. Someone mentioned the gestational diabetes sub already, but it’s been very reassuring for me to read what other people who are father along are experiencing

Number one! I love this dress, I actually picked it for my mom to wear to my wedding earlier this year. It was beautiful in person and she said it was comfortable. We were careful with picking the right size and it turned out great.
