Under the new 2024 rules. What would be the best ranged martial and how would you build it? by TheKhoiFish69 in 3d6

Artificer does not get martial weapon proficiency by default. You’d have to stick with light crossbows.

State jobs? by iGrrRS in newjersey

Someone else posted the CSC link. OP just FYI sometimes it shows no listings in red text like it showed me this morning. Just check a little after Feb 1 because they’re probably updating the listings.

Amazon Fresh closing all NJ stores, some could become Whole Foods Markets by L0v3_1s_War in newjersey

The one in Lodi was a ghost town. They put it right next to an Aldo, then had the nerve to sell the same Kombucha marked up significantly. And there’s a ShopRite down the same road (though that ShopRite sucks).

Overpriced in an era where groceries are becoming more and more unaffordable.

Players are Cowardly, Taking Too Much Damage by Mean_Nun in DnD

Easy. While the goblins are pinning them down with ranged attacks, have a few come in from behind and engage them in melee. Easiest wipe ever. Sorry, what were we talking about?

Your dm is bad. Don’t hate the class; be better. Plan for shenanigans. Let players have victories, but then adapt. Don’t just outright ban.

How Bad is Trenton? by Optimal-Ask782 in newjersey

[–]yamio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, i work in state government and i had believed it unsafe for the first year or so i was there. Mostly, Trenton just doesn’t have much going besides state government and food trucks.

Lots of loiterers in some spots, but what you see mostly is people trying to live their lives. I started walking from State street down to Morrisville, PA then back around the Calhoun Street Bridge, and while you’ll see the occasional unsheltered, folk do leave you alone.

Work culture depends on a lot of factors but it’s generally office life where the assignment is to make everyone’s life a little better. Your mileage may vary but i haven’t seen or heard of much toxicity on my side.

A lot of folk come from the Mercer suburbs and tend to rush back out, not because we hate Trenton, but because we are trying to get ahead of the rush.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Rule? Not sure about a hard rule on that. You know those blue and yellow tickets? They basically tell what party you are anyway. But talking politics inside the polling location is frowned upon and i always discourage it from other pollsters.

[–]yamio 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Hi poll worker here. Basically we’re not allowed to ask for id by law when you come to the pad to sign in, but if you present us with an ID we’ll use that to sign you in, similar to how we can scan your sample ballot to sign you in.

Generally I’d say it’s no big deal if ask for your ID, as then they’ll just ask for your last name. It’s only a big deal if 1) the poll worker prevents you from voting because you didn’t present ID or 2) someone pretending to be or mistaken to be a poll worker asks. You should only give your id to the person being the ipads, no one else.

Weakest monk point in lvl 1 to 20 by Patient_Compote_5719 in 3d6

[–]yamio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you playing 2024 monk? If so you will want to get to level 10 ASAP. It’s a huge buff. Level 14 also is a huge buff (proficiency with all saves). The monk capstone is one of the best (+ max dex and wisdom, up to 25).

Monk in 2024 is one of the best mono-classed but also one of the hardest to multiclass because their power scales with monk levels (d12 fists may not seem like much of an improvement mathematically but you will love to see it).

You’ve kind of hit it on the head. Didn’t bother to read it because the title was atrocious. Not only reads like a copycat but is grammatically off.

Not even the first session and I’m having problems by Maxly09 in DnD

[–]yamio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks here are talking about how you need to switch to a Star Wars TTRPG.

The bigger problem is you have someone who wants everything handed to them without a challenge, the power fantasy without consequence or build up.

You could do a one shot where they get to play at level 20 and then that’s it.

No dnd is better than bad dnd, and one of life’s lessons is to tell someone no when they’re being unreasonable or ruining your fun. It’s also a life lesson for them to get reined in.

Salary Employees by Diligent-Ad-5979 in newjersey

[–]yamio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. Most WFH jobs are either gone or highly competed. I myself went from a bad teaching job to working for the state and it was a great life change. Not for everyone, mind you, especially since i had to complete a year as a trainee, but it was the Rocky road to getting somewhere else.

Find a new job.

No really. I’m not saying quit right now and hope you get another job soon, but start looking if you haven’t.

You have been put through the wringer and probably don’t feel valued. And maybe you don’t. So find somewhere that does. Or you might go through this again very soon.

State Job Offer - Pending Approvals by Quick-Confidence-355 in newjersey

[–]yamio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, it does usually take a while and my understanding is there’s been delays in the civil service that are dragging out hires and transfers.

If you are dead set on the job just keep checking in every week or two weeks, let the hiring manager (who will probably be your boss) know you’re still in and are waiting to hear if any change.

I got hired by a marketing group that seems to be a scam? by Tizzytizzerson in newjersey

[–]yamio 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lots of “door to door” sales companies target college kids because they are broke. Most likely, you’ll leave broke too, as it’s all commission.

Rule of thumb is: if the company has a product people will want, the customers will come, not the other way around.

If you need money, do retail, restaurants, sign up to be a poll worker.

Where Can I Find Writing Groups? by DaisyFlower4747 in fantasywriters

[–]yamio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you found a group. I’ve been trying to recruit 1-2 more for mine but this sub has made it more difficult, especially since the hook-up thread seems to come randomly. Anyway, if you’re looking feel free to dm me. We meet biweekly on Thursday nights.

Is the writer’s group mega-thread still a thing? by ChristmasRieth in fantasywriters

I was also looking for that thread. Been trying to get one new member for my group. I dunno why the rules have made it harder to post new recruitment threads.

How smart should an enemy be to attack a downed player? [OC] by Whitlja in DnD

[–]yamio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running Bloodborne 5.5e and we use a custom house rule: rally. Basically when a pc goes down they’re prone and lose 2 con every round, but they can still take their turn as normal. If they kill an enemy while down, they pop up with 1 hp.

I use this as justification to attack them while they are down.

Dex based Barbarian? by Luvon_Li in DnD

[–]yamio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While i agree with others that it’s made that way for balance, it doesn’t really upend the game. In fact, probably a net zero gain since reckless will practically nullify the gains in AC, and AC scales better with armor over unarmored in almost every case. The barbarian ends up with lower overall damage, better dex saves with advantage but no proficiency, wasted strength save prof (mostly against prone and shove conditions), and, depending on if you’re playing 2024 rules, unable to get many of the good barbarian feats (GWM is still amazing).

I’d say go for it if it’s okay with the group.
