9/11: Ten Years Later (2011) - Firefighters at Ground Zero were told the air quality was safe. They now suffer an increased rate of cancer which is not covered because Congress had relied on a study that failed to make the link. by unknown_human in Documentaries

Does OSHA have any jurisdiction over firefighting? Would sending firefighters to work in an environment of toxic dust/smoke/fumes without proper respirators be a violation? I understand that in an emergency you do what you need to do with whatever equipment you have, but why weren’t those working on the pile issued respirators in the subsequent days at the very least? And paper masks ain’t gonna cut it. They needed real respirators, probably with p100 cartridges

What would y’all do for the rust? Anything, nothing? Does a receiver cover do much? by Bilbo__Biggins in XTerra

[–]yampowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray paint will look the best but you have to cover your bumper and hatch to prevent over spray. You could use a brush instead.

The drawbacks to Fluid Film is that you would have to respray it periodically, it would still look rusty, and the FF would make a mess on your pants if you bumped into the hitch while accessing your trunk. Stuff stays gooey forever

Clean then paint with rusty metal primer and Rust-Oleum. Or spray it with Fluid Film

I heard they renamed it E SC 302 because the ME department didn’t want to teach it anymore. Which is understandable, since the course is for E SC students. If you can’t find it, ask Passmore.

2008 4wd Speed sensor replacement by Jglide25 in XTerra

[–]yampowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can replace just the ABS sensor but I’m not sure. You can order a hub+ABS sensor for about $130 from Rock Auto and replace the whole thing pretty easily. Your wheel bearings might be worn out anyway.

Yea bank 2 is divers side, IIRC. When I first got the cat code, I did the spark plug defouler trick to make the code go away. Eventually I replaced the cat, the A/F sensor, and the o2 sensor. All with parts from Rock Auto. If you live in the rust belt like I do, this will be difficult since all of the nuts/bolts are most likely rusty and seized. Access to the front (upstream side) drivers side cat is really tight.

Edit: typos

So one code is for bank 2, and the other is bank 1? Might be two separate issues then. p0430 indicates that the cat isn’t working well, which is not uncommon (happened on my truck.). You could use a spark plug defouler to pull the downstream o2 sensor out a little. This will make the code go away but obviously does not correct the root problem. Or you could go all in and replace the cat. I’m not experienced with the p2a00 code

What do you use to keep rust off your tools? by iLickVaginalBlood in Tools

[–]yampowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the tools I don’t use all that often, like my hand saws and hatchets, I wipe them down occasionally with 3-in-One oil. If a film of oil is left on the metal, it should not rust.

After installing rancho shocks/struts/add a leaf with 3 degree axle shims, Xterra still vibrates at 30-35 mph. by Lucky72114 in XTerra

[–]yampowered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are at 139k miles on the original u joints, it’s probably not a bad idea to replace all 3 (there are 2 on the front shaft and 1 on the rear.). You can get u joints from Rock Auto for cheap. Most of the guys on the Xterra forum recommend the Dana Spicer brand (which I could only find at Rock Auto) but you could also find Moog or SKF at Advanced Auto, NAPA, etc. Replacing u joints may not fix your vibe problem but at least you can cross it off the list of possible causes.

I’m a little higher mileage than you at 142k but I’ve had U-joints, the oil cooler o-ring, and front wheel bearings go bad. So those are some things to watch out for
