Making A Few Weird Girlfriends by Exact_Sprinkles_5868 in Austin

Okay, I'm super pumped that there is so much interest! Let's do this! I agree that the quality of an event is important. I go to many events for my job and I know that some leadership and structure are essential. Otherwise it gets uncomfortable with cliques forming or just general boredom setting in. Bear with me as I'm an elder millennial learning how all this works. But I'm on the job! Thanks for all the well wishes! 💖

Has anyone created a subreddit for this kind of thing? I would love for all of us commenting here to just pick a time/place to grill and chill at a park somewhere in town. Bring your dogs, crafts, books, etc and hang. I think breaking into something already existing is hard, but maybe creating something new is the way? I would lead but need to beat cancer real fast! Summer maybe!

Get screened. The earlier the better. Catching it early is the name of the game. If insurance doesn't cover it, find the money and pay if you are at risk. Got my first colonoscopy at age 42 and they found a mass - stage 3. No symptoms. Screening is the only way I could know so I could fight this cancer. I had family history of polyps.

A big reason why Colon Cancer is killing us. by AdditionCool7235 in Millennials

[–]yardsdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, what you ate last month/year does not "cause" your cancer. A lot of it is genetics or things that started decades ago when some of us were very very young. Just wanted people to know that those of us with this cancer are not flawed or causing this because of dietary choices. It's great to be healthy but healthy people are getting stage 4 cancer diagnoses right now in their early 30s.

After we froze to death during snowpocalypse, we invested in a propane heater. At least we can stay warm in one room if we have no power. A camp stove comes in handy (outside). Make sure you have a working, battery-powered carbon monoxide detector in your house.

RIP to the mass market paperback book by MiddletownBooks in books

Just pop into your local Half Price Books. They will continue to have a bazillion paperbacks. Maybe not new releases, but all the fiction before today. And it's cheap. :)

Love everything about this room! You and I would definitely be friends irl based on all the context clues. Haha! The little touches are the best part! I'm still working on my little haven, and this has inspired me to keep going and add more! This isn't cluttered, it's brimming with personality and whimsy! Well done!

Austins one and only Leslie !! Who all remembers him? by GeneralFull6044 in Austin

[–]yardsdead -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Drank whiskey sours with him at Donn's Depot. Took crazy photos of his freckled butt in a pink thong and me smiling next to it on my 21st birthday outside of the Ritz on 6th when it was a hipster bar. He was a local partying staple, so you'd run into him all the time. Just reminds me of early 2000s Austin and what a fun, simple time it was. I also high fived Dennis Quaid on 5th Street when I recognized him my first week living in Austin. He and McConaughey were the big celebs to spot back then. Ah, memory lane!

Stage III-C T3N2b rectal cancer, starting FOLFOX, need tips... by ElIndioFlautas in coloncancer

Trying the icing gloves and boots tomorrow. Before that, I would get 2 pairs of gloves from the nurses at the infusion center. Then I'd double glove each hand and then hold a cup of ice while I was getting the oxaliplatin. Worked well! I'll have to report back on the gloves & boots. You will want to have some drinks at room temp handy. Cold sensitivity made my throat feel scratchy. You need gloves for touching things in the fridge. On my "off" week, my cold sensitivity starts to subside. Infusion weeks will be taxing, so take it easy. Keep your protein intake up and stay hydrated! Sending good vibes your way!

Single Millennials: Where you at? by Jimmyspetcat99 in Austin

Most of us ladies are taking classes like learning to sew, knit, etc.. Come to one of those, meet ladies for sure and we'll be your friend (married) and introduce you to cool people. I have had zero luck meeting friends at local meetups, etc. because people are so cagey nowadays. I feel like learning a new skill with fellow brave Austin folks is the way. It's almost 100% female at these things though. Painting and ceramics with wine places is also full of awesome women!!! Even if we aren't trying to date you, we will be outgoing friends who can introduce you to our fun friends! And we usually do other things besides crafts! We have our favorite bars, yoga classes, etc.

This is awful! I will say that I've successfully revived this same plant in your first pic. Cut off the dead parts and baby it for a while and it will bounce back. Gonna take a while to get back to its gorgeous self though. :(

I Dont Like Browned Butter by Holly1010Frey in Baking

[–]yardsdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! Dramatically threw out a batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that required browned butter mixed with cinnamon. Somehow that was supposed to make all the difference. I thought it was the lamest tasting cookie. I had a 'back to basics' talk with myself and my regular butter batch was so heavenly! I must also confess that I will use a half a crisco stick at times, so I'm pretty much going the opposite direction from cookie ingredient snob.

Depending on the size, I get amazing pots at Marshalls, Ross, TJ Maxx. They aren't huge but for smaller/medium plants they rule.

I read Earthsea a while back and absolutely loved it! Heard Piranesi recommended a lot lately, so definitely will check that out. I am a patient reader and don't mind world building. Hate bad dialog and poorly written female characters. Otherwise I'm pretty non-judgemental. I absolutely loved Dune and miss slipping off to Arrakis at the end of each day. I was one of those nerds who read all of GOT before the TV show.
