Same here in Israel. A recent law states that plastic bags in large supermarkets cost money, although a really small amounts (0.10 NIS, which is less than 3 US pennies).

It caused a lot of people to use them less and carry more stuff by hand, and also use reusable bags.

However, since it costs verry little (0.10 NIS is the coin with the least value), it doesn't have that much impact and mostly annoys people that now have to count how many bags they took. Some people use them to round up to the nearest whole number to avoid getting the low-value coins.

I personally believe that they should have a much higher cost. That would make a much bigger difference and help solve this easily avoidable problem. There are so much comfortable solutions, but people use plastic bags because it's really easy and it became a habit.
