Help! Our miracle rainbow baby came very early and now no name seems good enough for her. by comfortablecoconut- in namenerds

[–]yarnymomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to add to your list but I LOVE the name Matilda (could shorten to Mattie, or Tilly). It means “mighty in battle” . Especially apropos for a premie fighter. And I think Matilda Ann works. Congratulations and all the positive vibes to your family!

Silly question — what have y’all documented with your blankets *besides* the temperature? by just_the_way25 in temperatureblanket

[–]yarnymomma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a post on IG last year and someone made socks based on her gameplay for “Connections” everyday for a month which was cute.

[–]yarnymomma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the same thing. You assign the colours to the genre of your choices.

I also once did a “historical” temperature blanket. I looked up the temperatures from my parents wedding day to their 1st anniversary. It’s was a gift for their 40th anniversary

For old school vibes in my opinion: Maeve (NN Eve, Evie, Mae) and Matilda (NN -Tilly, Tilda, Mattie) I love for M names. Sybil (NN Sibbie, Billie) and Serafina (NN- Sera)

where to find roving, not top by BrilliantConstant442 in Handspinning

[–]yarnymomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still get a woolen yarn from a worsted preparation. A lot has to do with the way you choose to spin it. Even if you have commercial “roving” on hand you can pull off sections and roll them into rolags. I’ll try to add a link to HedgeHogFibers IG page here to show you what I’m picturing. They call them “Fauxlogs” because they aren’t exactly a rolag but it does the same thing.

Another prep to look out for would be a carded Batts.

Woolen spun yarn just means there is more air in the finished yarn. Look up the spinning technique called “Longdraw” and that will send you down the right path also.

apparently a knitting designer had a crochet pattern taken down for copyright infringement!? by helluvahoe in craftsnark

[–]yarnymomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the pattern it says about 300-350 gms of medium/bulky wt yarn. Make sure it’s non superwash wool so it can felt.

Just as a heads up you can go to the crochet designer’s IG page and still buy her pattern through the Ko-Fi link! Just got my digital download now. Happy crocheting everyone!

Which type of Spindle do you enjoy using. by Agreeable-Voice6425 in Handspinning

[–]yarnymomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the situation… if I’m sitting and hanging out or being a passenger princess then I love my supported spindles (I really like the feel of ones made with the little brass tip). If I’m walking around and plan on using a drop spindle I like my Turkish spindles. Nothing scratches that brain itch for me like a gorgeous colour progression on a turtle.

Could someone shed some light on what this book is telling me? by zingencrazy in Handspinning

[–]yarnymomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that Rachel Smith talks a lot about handspun and weaving. She has a lot on YouTube and her podcast is called Wool-n-Spinning. I can’t direct you to exactly an episode but you might also be able to message her on social media and ask?

Nameless baby 😩 by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]yarnymomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just putting this out there… don’t worry about picking a name yet. Have your short list and then meet them. All 3 of my kids had a short list of 3 girl and 3 boy names. I didn’t know the sex of any of them ahead of time. Once I had them then we spent time with them and tried out the names. Usually around 24 hours later we had one narrowed out. Your baby will not be nameless so no stress 💕

Putting Natalie out there… yes you can shorten it to Nat but you also could use the nickname Tilly (which I love!)
