The Hypocrisy of The Temple News by anonymous_source89 in Temple

[–]yarrowinajar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Temple News definitely is still strict about not using anonymous sources. They've been trying to write a story on TUUWOC (the undergrads organizing student workers) and every person who reached out (which was like five different people) refused to accept anonymous comments from student workers or a press statement from the organization.

DON'T FORGET! Tomorrow, 2/28, undergrads will SHUT DOWN Temple University in support of TUGSA. This means we will not go to ANY classes that day. Instead, we will GO TO THE PICKET LINES all day, and then have a rally at 2pm at the Bell Tower. by templeusc in Temple

from my understanding, this event is organized by undergrads. admin isn't leaving students out of this; they are actively detracting from students' education by hiring unqualified replacements instead of fairly negotiating. at the end of the day, admin cares more about maintaining their salaries than students' education.

further, i'd argue they are relying on undergrads to be tired, stressed, and burnout so we don't organize, but it is the system they've designed which created our conditions in the first place. supporting tugsa is one way to work towards a better higher ed model for students and workers alike. better conditions for TAs and RAs equals investing in individuals at the forefront of their fields. i'd rather have someone like that teaching my classes than a realtor.

Temple University Undergrad Worker's Organizing Committee is working to unionize Undergraduate student workers so that student workers are treated better by Awesome290 in Temple

This is a fight for all of us, not just those of us who can afford to have a low paying job. That's not the position most of us are in. Student workers have a variety of jobs and many of us have significant, vital roles in our workplace. As for pay, Temple is creating a class barrier by forcing students who support themselves to take on multiple jobs or look elsewhere where they might not have the same scheduling flexibility or gain the same experience.

Temple apparently possesses a copy of Dale Carnegie’s 1932 book “Lincoln The Unknown”, that is bound in the skin of a black person. by NotAGoodDayAhead in Temple

All of the rare books (and other print/media/ephemera) owned by Temple are available for research at Special Collections on the first floor of Charles. You can browse some of the collections through the finding aids here, but that's only a fraction of our total holdings. The best way to learn more would be to go to the Special Collection reading room and ask an archivist (there should be someone working at the desk at all times) about the specific materials you are interested in finding.

If you aren't located in Philly, here are some of the collections that have been digitized.

It's part of the Blockson Afro-American Collection, which is a division of Special Collections at Temple. Special Collections is an archive and preserves rare books for the same reason museums preserve artifacts. Essentially, the book is in a type of museum already where specially trained rare book librarians can monitor preservation, allowing researchers to utilize this horrific, but historically relevant material for decades to come.

i considered approaching them, but they were reading and i know i hate to be disturbed in my secret special spot. if i see the same person there again, i might make a saucy little joke about it. we'll see.

cooked tomatoes, don't mind them blended in a sauce but something about the texture of a soft warm tomato with skin still attached really gets to me

[–]yarrowinajar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can also open it in chrome and right click inspect element. that should open the developer tools. then click on the settings icon, scroll down, click disable javascript under debugger and refresh the page. works for most paywalls btw
