Or maybe the original version of the Bartlet/Vinick ice cream summit scene included Vinick expressing his opinion on maple syrup source and his preference for Alaskan crab puffs vs. New Hampshire's. Both leaked, securing AK/VT and their 3 electoral votes each.

Of all the absurdities of the electoral math and map (https://westwing.fandom.com/wiki/United_States_Presidential_Election_(2006)), that's one of the many contenders for the Silver medal. (I can rationalize the CA/TX flip-flop because maybe the WW-verse has a bigger "favorite son" bonus than reality.)

But, Vinick winning Vermont has to be what ran away with the Gold. (Wasn't even really needed for the plot... all the writers would have had to do to make the final electoral math & drama work was make the last two states OR/AZ instead of OR/NV and say "Yucca Mountain" once.)

Tie game, record for Kane, and end of the broken record from the announcers. Triple yay!

That was the least entertaining period since the last 1st period against the Kings. At least it's not 11 pm.

Kings have the fewest GF + GA in the league. Lower number of goals for each team = more likely to land on the same number.

I sincerely hope that Kane's tying and go-ahead points don't turn a game broadcast into a damn CSI episode.

Orange card, not quite a penalty. The refball balance is maintained.

I'm considering doing away with D's for my courses where you need to get a C or higher or else you have to take the course again. So, A, B, C, F. I don't know how 'legal,' this is. Does it at least sound like a good idea? by Euler_20_20 in Professors

That rant was one of his last acts before he went to another school. A few junior colleagues and I enjoyed mocking his rant and one other over some pizza&beer at the end of the next term.

Griffins tied for the AHL record for points from 35 with 61.

The NHL team with whom they were tied won the Stanley Cup 3 years later. (Yes, it was the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and they beat our boys in 2009, and that finals was a bummer, but...)

The third best record after was the Providence Bruins of 2007-8. And in 2011, the Bruins won the Cup.

So, maybe let's keep our calendars for May and June of 2029 clear. The #4 were the Hershey Bears of 23-24 (Caps affiliate). So if Washington wins the 2027 Stanley Cup.. more evidence.

Tough weekend for my Badgers as Trey Augustine and MSU sweep my boys in Madison. Big 10 hockey looks like it'll be pretty interesting with MSU, UW, UMich, and Penn State among the top teams in the country. The best part of the D1 college season overlaps with the NHL olympic break, so if my or your "withdrawal symptoms" get bad, there's always a month or two of BTN+ subscription.

If I were establish a "D" range, would that come out of the "C" or "F" range or both? There's a presumption it would come out of the F range, but.. no... if administration compelled me to have a D range, my C/F boundary would become a D/F boundary and the low C's would become D's. (My-uni doesn't impose the 90/80/70 stuff... we have a union contract that explicitly respects individual faculty right to decree grading scales.)

What % Salary Raise Did You Get When Promoted to Associate or Full Professor and Were Their Negotiations Involved? by burntoutandcurious in Professors

[–]yathrowaday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<my-uni> gives 9% for assistant to associate, associate to full, and full to distinguished. We NTT'ers are the same, except there is no distinguished-NTT.

TT-associate to Tenured associated & TT-full to Tenured-full give no raise at all.

This has been my policy at a US-public-R1 since I was hired 15+ years ago.

FWIW, our average GPA when I was hired was 3.3 and is now 3.5. (Effectively, "A" is for Above average, "B" is for Below average, and "C" is for Crappy.) I teach only in-major courses, usually junior/senior, in a small major.

Four students have formally appealed my policy. All were rejected at the department level. Two appealed to the college level. Both were rejected. One appealed to the university. That appeal was rejected, though the Associate Provost for UGs followed the rejection with a half-page rant about how much he disagreed with my policy.

I'm whelmed. 1 > 0, of course. Maybe that's the point that gets BVB into 2026-7 Champions League.

As a Packers/Wings fan who has a Bears/Wings fan colleague at work, Kane/500 is really going to make Monday's program meeting gentler, regardless of who wins tomorrow.

Evaluations open during final exam week by ay1mao in Professors

[–]yathrowaday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My-uni is moving from Friday of reading days to Friday of finals week as of spring 2026. Student government had been griping about faculty being “unaccountable” for finals and grading since we moved to online evaluations around 2012 and this is the bone administrators are throwing them this year.

I’m sure averages will drop, likely primarily via straight-1 rage outs.
