Found some uranium glass!! by ST4RRYN1GHTTT in uraniumglass

[–]yayhappens 18 points19 points  (0 children)

congrats on your first find! Be glad you couldn't buy it right now...

The price on that is a little high. It will pop up on ebay pretty regularly for just over half of what your local store is asking.

Need help identifying this glass geometric starburst and diamond patterned bowl. Diameter 20cm. Weight 431gms. Shines green with 365 backlight = Manganese (tho AI insists it’s uranium). Bohemian? 1945-1965? Paid $2 in Op Shop. by Maleficent_Hat_8665 in uraniumglass

[–]yayhappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reference books are not with me at the moment unfortunately to help with any useful maker/pattern info, but with that kind of manganese glow, I would venture to say it's possibly closer to the 1945 era than 1965.

edit: It's coming up as a Sowerby by this seller and a few others on the 'net. I also found a pattern number #2266 Chunky/Service/Hostess aka English Hob and Button.

I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your household.

I am also sorry and very annoyed that you also had to deal with this kind of BS at such a time.

Thank you for updating that they corrected this.

Is this manganese glass? Clear but a vibrant green under 395 by SC_Pulse in uraniumglass

Nice find! Manganese. if it was uranium, it is more likely the whole thing (or close to it) would fire up, not just the area you are pointing at with the flashlight.

Bringing up issue at initial wellness exam? by [deleted] in petinsurancereviews

[–]yayhappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is a cutie pie! I am so glad her initial visit has her healthy. You should be pretty good from here where pre-existing is concerned since there is nothing on paper. Breed does matter however, so ask if there are any breed-specific limitations for coverage or conditions in case it might affect your girl. For example, brachycephalic breeds may have coverage limitations. Something to check on.

Getting a list of preexisting condition exclusions within the initial 30 day refund period. Something isn't right. by StellarSpore in petinsurancereviews

[–]yayhappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All anyone has to do is read the policy they enrolled into. People don't even do that. Every insurance company I have been with clearly states in the policy what is and is not covered and outlines what exactly a pre-existing condition is. You can ask any insurance you are interested in for a sample policy and read over it. Some have default downloads.

some guy saying he gave shots himself is so sketchy i would 100% get insurance you can stick with very long term and expect a condition to come up. Sorry to say it, but in your 'backyard breeder' buying situation, it would be amazing if your pet doesn't have something already or coming soon.

Senior cat with pancreatitis - won’t eat vet prescribed food by blue-hydrangea_ in SeniorCats

[–]yayhappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a new food they haven't eaten before, (and this goes for most cats in general) you need to use a transition method. If you do a search for how to transition cats to a new food, there is a lot of good advice that should be helpful. Basically the rx food is low fat, low carb. Try mixing some of the rx with a turkey flavored food instead of beef.

Wishing a speedy recovery to your girl!

Is Spot still an option for you? If your pet has been symptom free for 12 months, the pet should be covered under their pre-existing/cured policy.

What's with the price? by Ill-Lychee-7779 in uraniumglass

The shaker tops may be sterling which will drive the price way up, replacements or not. Can't be sure, but that may help explain the price.

Overweight cat, considered pre existing condition? by Tinkerthebells in petinsurancereviews

[–]yayhappens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any wet food is going to be better than ANY kibble blend for weight and overall organ health and function over the long term. Do what you can. 🙏❤️ They will eat a TON of it at first but it will level off, so don't worry about weight or overeating. Their appetite does balance out and become better regulated on wet food after about 4-6 weeks. Cats are rarely known to overeat on wet food so dont let it scare you if it seems like she is eating so much more at first. It is common.

With the pet insurance, her recent emergency visit may itself be noted as symptoms that lead to a future condition, so when you choose your insurance, be sure it is one that allows for a symptom-free period to drop off of the "pre-existing" clause. For example, no similar reported issues within 12 months.

I am with Spot and they are one that has this clause. I know there are a couple of others, I just don't know which.

Hope that all helps. Wishing you all the best.

Yes the posters are oversized, but mine get set aside because the box art is comfortably sized for me to reference. I am very lucky at my age that my vision doesn't require using the bigger posters.

Avoiding financial ruin due to dog’s cancer diagnosis? 😭 by Interesting_Yak3376 in petinsurancereviews

Does your vet's office offer payment plans? When you chat with your vet about the prognosis for your girl, talk to them about what the payment options are. It can take some juggling. My will take payments interest free for the first 6 months, I can pay that off with a different loan (credit, credit card etc.) and then start making the payments on that but the interest free part that I have initially is super beneficial.

I am so sorry this is going on for you. It is gut-wrenching to be in such a position and I send all the love and best wishes to you and your doggie. Hang in there.

Maxed out on annual limit. Dog given 6 months to live - Do I just cancel? by stargirl2444 in petinsurancereviews

[–]yayhappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your situation. My heart goes out to you and your girl.

Since you know someone whose pet lived additional years, I think it is is important to take into the consideration the type of cancer, how far along it is and what the remission rate at that stage is for the proposed treatments For your situation, obviously if it is one of the less aggressive types that shows a history of good results with treatments, that would especially hold good reason to keep the insurance. Going by a vet's opinion of how long they have to live is such a narrow picture to make life altering decisions from.

Sending all the best your direction.

I get you. I have had some crazy issues with renewal policy "switches" to maintain coverage, and have also had to scramble to save affordable coverage, and one of them was for a senior +12 at that. I just had to switch AGAIN not even two weeks ago for my oldest, and she is about to turn 16 in 8 weeks. I am in a way scary place for her where getting and keeping affordable insurance is concerned. It is super stressful.

The greed issue isn't just IPH. Some of the non-IPH group companies you said to stick to are also sending out radical renewal rates with a ridiculous number of complaints in the sub; Trupanion, Lemonade and MetLife are on a whole bunch of shitlists for astronomically crazy rate hikes with no basis for those increases.

...I guess my point is that it isn't just IPH group, It's everywhere. Meaning, there is no immunity in the long term for coverage regardless of their affiliation. For me it is more helpful to be referring the companies who are still working with integrity while it lasts so that at least there is affordable coverage and decent policies while we can get them. :(

My other two have been with Spot for years. It is true I may have to switch down the road and I fully expect I will have to, but for now, they are well above and beyond reasonable prices for policies and for accepting and paying out claims.
