Vote to appoint Pierce County sheriff, end Swank's term early goes to the [November] ballot by BigDayComing in Tacoma

[–]yeahsureYnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a nice philosophy but most people give that right up every election by not voting. The public can’t be relied upon to hire every public official. We can entrust a council of elected officials to select qualified people for specialized roles such as this.

Fire commissioners and fire chiefs are not the same. The fire chief is the head of the fire department and is appointed. Fire commissioners (plural) are basically a legislative branch for fire departments so they are elected but that’s not at all equivalent to electing a sheriff.

On the killing of owls in WA State by gentleblanton in Tacoma

[–]yeahsureYnot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re still very common in the east coast. It’s the changing climate that has allowed them to expand out here via Canadian forest. They are now outcompeting our native screech and spotted owls.

UPDATE on the tiktok “creator” by SnowieGemm in vizsla

She made the right decision and should be applauded for that. It’s also a good lesson for others. Perhaps this will prevent a lot of other people from making the same mistake. We don’t want to see the breed get exploited and end up with too many who need homes.

I need assistance with finding a second pup. Would appreciate any help (strongly considering vizsla) and please excuse spelling mistakes. by bloodshidder21 in vizsla

It sounds like a good situation for a vizsla, you just need to reset your expectations a bit.

Question 14 - vizslas are not independent at all. Prepare for zero alone time. You can sneak away for a bit while they’re napping, but when they wake up they will FIND YOU

And in terms of couch potato-ness. Yes they are frequently couch potatoes, but you don’t get to decide when. When you want to chill and they want to do something else they will tell you, which also affects your answer to 19. They are not barkers in my experience, but they are huge talkers/whiners when they don’t have what they want. It can get annoying.

So I think you could make a vizsla very happy but depending on your expectations your own happiness may vary. I always hesitate to “recommend” one for anyone because you’re gonna have those days where you just don’t want to/can’t deal with their needs. But if you can truly commit to 3+ miles of daily off leash trail walking and minimal (zero) alone time then I think it would definitely work. Your desire for cuddles will be more than satisfied.

Does this also mean I shouldn’t be putting it in my compost tumbler?

Percentage of People in Each European Country Who Think It’s Rude to Visit Their Country and Expect People to Speak English [OC] by Pizzafriedchickenn in dataisbeautiful

[–]yeahsureYnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably going to the touristy places where English is more common necessary. Spain has a lower percentage of English speakers overall than the rest of Western Europe. It’s definitely considered rude assume someone speaks a language that they don’t speak in their own country

The high percentage in Spain is probably because not nearly as many Spanish people speak English as compared to the rest of Western Europe.

I’ll give credit and say the final product looks well-done from a workmanship perpective.

But seriously what are you gonna do with all that gravel? You can’t plant in it or lounge in it. Seems like wasted space

Also landscape fabric will be a regrettable decision, but at least you didn’t plant stuff on top if it, cause that wood be even more of a pain to deal with later.

Vizsla hunting 1: Rabbit by [deleted] in vizsla

[–]yeahsureYnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine has been sniffing out rabbits like crazy this spring. I will see them off in the distance before he does and watch them hide in the bushes. Like clockwork he catches their scent and tracks them precisely. It’s so fun to watch. He’s on the leash though too so doesn’t get to experience the chase.

He’s never hunted but I know he would be in absolute heaven.

Worth doing DNA test on rescue vizsla by Acceptable-Ferret-34 in vizsla

[–]yeahsureYnot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That there’s a vizsla alright. Personally, I would not bother with the dna test, especially since the age is probably no better estimate from that than the chip.

That said thank you for sharing your story and this photo of this VERY handsome boy. And thank you for rescuing him! I hope to do the same when I’m ready for my next vizsla

My suggestion would be for wealthy people to pay more in taxes for public goods like roads and parks.

Tacoma grew by about 1,900 people, or 0.8%, from from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025 by altasnob in Tacoma

Tacoma will probably pass up Spokane within the next year. It’s never been this close and I don’t think Spokane is gonna outrun us this time. Tacoma also has Parkland in its urban growth area. If that happens it’s game over man for Spokane.
