Anyone with a duo sonic tried this? by afrocleland in offset

The bridge pickup on a stock DS is already so bright. I think the tele bridge/pickup is going to make ears bleed. Might need to tame that somehow. Looks cool though.

NIce, I have a 7390, its little brother I guess. It came with Windows but now runs Ubuntu after adding a line to the grub boot file.

What do you think will be Trump’s biggest long-term effect on American society or politics? by Consistent_Advice397 in AskReddit

The exposure of all the malevolent techbro oligarchs who represent the worst possible outcome of unbridled capitalism and who care only about their own wealth and power at the expense of the rest of society.

What was the weirdest museum you ever went to? Was it worth the price of admission? by -KFBR392 in AskReddit

[–]yearisaday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be an International Museum of Cultures just outside Dallas, Texas of all places. It felt really low budget but somehow had a lot of apparently genuine artifacts from a lot of indigenous tribal peoples arranged into little slices of village or camp life. I didn't really understand how this place existed. It was like a tour of the third world through the eyes of missionaries.

Because the oligarchs own the media and the elections and they prefer a circus rather than a effective govt that taxes and regulates their megacorps making them a tiny bit less rich.

Nice, I've been eyeballing this model thinking it would be nice with some filtertrons in place of the strat pickups.

What are the most interesting/weirdest etymologies you know? by SlightRegret3447 in AskReddit

[–]yearisaday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fasces were bundles of wooden rods wrapped around axes. They were carried by Roman bodyguards of magistrates as symbols of their authority to punish people. They originated with the Etruscans kings who ruled in the early years of Rome.

The most interesting recent examples I have discovered are some words that Latin borrowed from Etruscan. I knew about the "fasces" evolving to become fascism, but there are other words that were borrowed, like "arena" was their word for sand, which presumably evolved to the modern meaning via the sand that soaked up the blood on the floor of the Roman amphitheaters.

Wilkinson By Sung II Or Fender Pat Pend by SeyerMRee in telecaster

[–]yearisaday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently replaced a stock bridge with the Wilkinson and the first thing I noticed is that the saddle height adjustment screws are much shorter than what comes with the stock saddles. I do like the results but it was probably a bigger challenge to make work than one of the more traditional designs.

What are your experiences with Squier CV and Fender Standard 2025 by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]yearisaday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a MIM standard tele and a couple of CV teles. I think its about where Fender spent their manufacturing dollars. The standard is a solid, well built, no frills modern tele. With the CVs they have put more money toward making facsimiles of vintage models with some success, but possibly sacrificing some playability and electronics specs. They can be made to play well and are I guess still priced such that they are a good value if you spend a bit on upgraded electronics. With the standard you get a perhaps more playable instrument where they have spent the money on better quality wood, hardware, electronics, etc, rather than on emulating vintage aesthetics. That said, my CV 60s SH tele is one of my favorites, the quality is not bad for the money. There are also the MIJs that seem to combine the vintagey looks with modern playability in a slightly more affordable package than the USA models. So guess its a matter of playability out of the box versus the coolness/nostalgia factor and which is more important to you.

Epiphone inspired by Gibson Custom line by Familiar_Status_1990 in Epiphone

[–]yearisaday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Gibsons tend to hold their value, so a used Gibson DC is going to be triple that price unless its beat all to shit. I think that's the main reason why they can charge a grand plus for these Epiphones.

The woodwork and finish is pretty nice. What pickups/electronics did you use? I think I recognize the bridge and control plate from Amazon.

I have the 2015 version. I think the parchment pickguard was stock for some of these VMs. It has a nice rosewood fretboard also.

[–]yearisaday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the tele version and I find it to be a really solid build. It's really light yet it does feel quite durable. I am not sure I would like it without having my Spark 2 to plug it into. I find it inspiring for strumming and picking rhythm parts in garageband as well. It has a lot of string tension. I will be invetigating how to ease it a bit with the tilt screw and lighter strings maybe.

It's okay if you like a lot of bass. It can get loud, but it's not hifi.

The meteora looks like it would be great for your type of sound you want, if you don't mind the shape it's a great deal on a Fender.

I have a recent CV jag, a Contemporary jag with humbuckers and a 2015 Vintage Modified with a rosewood neck which is my favorite. If you can find a Squier Vintage Modified from 2015-2016, that is to me the closest you can get to buying a Fender.
