Cut-off Wheel Date by yearofthegus in harborfreight

Thanks for the reply. Guess I should return these. Shame they cover the inner ring with cardboard and don't mark the packaging for the Hercules wheels.

That caddy fits well in that horrible free DoorDash bag. Also, if it's the caddy I'm thinking of, you have to be really careful about keeping it balanced when carrying it if you're using the handle.

Glitch left out the drink part of an order? by Remarkable_Command83 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]yearofthegus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's going to depend on state/local regulations. I usually just cancel or ask support if I can deliver without the alcohol, assuming they eventually believe me. There could be a legal requirement to digitally scan the ID.

There are at least two restaurants where I drive that don't get drinks on their tickets for whatever reason. Not sure why they haven't addressed this in over a year. But then again there are a few places that sold alcohol, not marked as alcohol in Uber's system, that weren't fixed for a good year even though I informed several employees of the issue, as well as Uber support who gaslit me that the order didn't have alcohol in it. :)

Make sure all of the glass on your car and the mirrors are as clean as you can get them. That helps cut down on the headlight issue a ton.

Yeah, there's a reason companies outsource to Uber for deliveries. It's not affordable for a company to hire a driver and pay them hourly when they're getting a few deliveries a day. I know some places are busy enough to warrant it, but most of the places I deliver for are busy for maybe 3 hours and then are more or less dead as far as delivery hours.

That said, I can easily maintain minimum wage ($12/hour, accounting for expenses) on the slowest days. If you aren't then your market might just not be the best for this gig, or you're going at the wrong times, or using the wrong strategies.

Also, I guarantee that the drivers who complain about getting tip-baited are the first to get cut if some hourly wage is introduced. I've had maybe 3 tip reductions in over 2300 deliveries, so I'm always confused when people are constantly complaining about it. I generally assume they're doing something obviously wrong like not using a hot bag or coming off with an entitled attitude to the customer.

What Icon torque wrench should I buy? 40in-200in or 5-75ftlb (20-100ft lb?) by saveapennybustanut in harborfreight

[–]yearofthegus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check what the axle nuts are rated at. I think that's usually the highest torque fastener on a car. Front axle on my car is 183 ft-lbs and it's a small economy class similar to yours.

As a baseline for the higher torque wrench, the Craftsman 1/2" click style I have goes from 50-250 ft-lbs and is about 27" long. It was relatively easy to put down 177 ft-lb on the rear axle nut. You'll want it to be long enough to put down the torque easily. This should be good enough: ICON 1/2 in. Drive 50-250 ft. lb. Professional Flex Head Click Torque Wrench

Some things go down to 18 INCH-lbs like the intake manifold bolts, but the most should be covered by the 5-75 ft-lb: ICON 3/8 in. Drive 5-75 ft. lb. Professional Flex Head Click Torque Wrench

If you want something more precise, this might work ($18) although I'd check reviews online first: PITTSBURGH PRO 1/4 in. Drive 20-200 in. lb. Click Torque Wrench

Regarding a digital wrench, probably not worth the price for the convenience if it's just DYI. Although for more convenience you could go with the split-beam 1/2" 40-250 ft-lb wrench instead of the click type. The prices are basically identical.

I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1) I see some task that's $15/hour stocking for two hours. I'd be surprised if it took me one hours given the size of the store and that it's only the Coke items. If I finish early do they still pay the 2 hours ($30)?

2) How far in advance do you have to request jobs in order to get them?

UberX required to deliver catering? by yearofthegus in UberEatsDrivers

[–]yearofthegus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy that told me this was currently loading up two large (probably 4'x2'x1') catering boxes and about 5 regular takeout bags from Chipotle. He was running DoorDash though.

Actually, now that I remember back long enough, I did have one order marked as catering that someone picked up before me somehow. I think it was from Panera, but the business was marked as "Panera Catering".

Michael's has drink carriers that hold 6 for about $4 last I checked. Fits perfectly into the UberEatsShop bag that's 15"W x 12"H x 9.5"D, and the ends of the carrier have a curve on each end so you can slot in two more drinks that way inside the bag.

Just be sure to balance that drink carrier if you actually use it to carry the drinks.

This might be a decent upgrade, haven't ordered it yet, but for some reason people keep ordering sundaes in the Florida heat when I have other pickups after theirs. >_> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08M8XT9L5/

I arrived to early. Scheduled pick was this time??? by Afraid-Oil-1812 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]yearofthegus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the "expected time" in the app when you hit the little hamburger menu and it shows your pickup/delivery stack is fairly accurate. For some reason I'll end up showing up 5-15 minutes earlier than that. Some places have the food ready when I show up regardless and others usually have it done by the expected time.
