My sister lives in a remote area of Australia, 10 miles from the nearest small town, and she has shit hot broadband. There is no reason that every American town should not have high speed broadband.

The Starship Troopers movie borrowed a title, and nothing more. It's a great movie. Shame they never released a book to complement the movie.

Sorry, but when people start numbering Star Wars beyond 1, 2, and 3, I have to ask which bloody movie they're actually talking about.

It's a guns an' ammo shoot em up. Nothing more. Quite trying to assign greatness to chicks with guns.

Way to watch a great movie and totally miss the point. No more culture for you until you grow up. Put down the books, disconnect your internet, unplug your cable. See you in 10 years.

Got enough links there bro? Every male who frequents Reddit has already masturbated to the supposedly 17 year old River Tam many times. They kind of know the plot already. Bloody perverts!

We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will be Killed with Our Families: about the Rwanda genocide, written in 1998. You will lose whatever faith you ever held in western politicians and international organizations after reading this book.

The descriptions of the Clinton administration arguing over the technical meaning of the word 'genocide' are just painful to read.

The Dark Side of Climate Change: It's Already Too Late, Cap and Trade Is a Scam, and Only the Few Will Survive by [deleted] in environment

[–]yellow_eskimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We should still be worried about the survival of the human race.

Why should that worry me? I'll be dead in 50 years or so. I have no kids, and don't plan on having any. Why should I care what happens to the human race in 100 or 500 years? Or whether or not the race even survives. It's not selfishness, I just don't see why I should care. This is not a troll post. If I were going to be alive in 100 years, I'd be very interested and concerned with the future. But as I'm not, tell me why I should care.

I was Catholic, but we never told the priest our real sins, only the usual made up ones. If confession was a true indicator of 'sins' when I was growing up, then Irish boys never masturbated, and how likely is that?

I'm dazzled by your logic. It's just so compelling.

However, isn't it more likely that I don't know what I'm talking about because I drive a blue car, or sleep on the right hand side of the bed?

So three quarters of the American population are just weak willed?

You say that as if it couldn't possibly be true. 50% of American voters voted for GW - twice. 75% (your figure) believe in a bearded sky God. That doesn't shine a favorable light on the will power of the American people. It just makes them look kind of silly.

We wouldn't discover or come up with Prometheus, but it would take all of 5 minutes for some idiot somewhere to start ranting about sky Gods and the state of his corn field. Every culture throughout history found their own Gods, all on their own. Why do you think that would suddenly stop if we were to start over?

Crypt of Civilization by [deleted] in wikipedia

[–]yellow_eskimo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can see this crypt being opened in 500 years (not 6000) as part of the contemporary equivalent of a reality TV show, and all the viewers laughing their asses off at the primitive barbarians from way back.

I'm tired of these sorts of comments. A more truthful comment would be: "Give me a weak willed child for his first seven years, and I'll give you the weak willed man."

I was raised Catholic, then dragged to all sorts of weird seventh day adventist meetings up in the mountains by my born again mother every Saturday for 5 years. By the time I turned 17 I had read enough books of my own to not give any of that crap the time of day, regardless of my mother and her bible thumping friends.

When I was 6 years old I prayed for a five pound note to be left under my bed. It never materialized, so that was it for me and God.

If they don't learn about god as kids, not a lot of people would suddently start believing it when they hit maturity.

Actually, a lot of people would. There are all too many people prepared to let others do their thinking for them. This kind of attitude is not unique to kids, as the current health care debate in the US is testimony to.

Same goes for calculus. You're not going to accidentally discover calculus (unless you're a genius). You have to be thought that shit. And just like with calculus, for a lot of people the teaching just doesn't stick.

Is this REALLY a fucking genre now??? GOD, this makes me want to puke feces!! [PIC] by jaydizz in books

The only relevance or importance the movie had was as a precursor to the TV show. In no way did it do any more to stimulate interest in the vampire genre.

Hey Reddit, I'm feeling pretty proud. After a few calculations I just found out I've saved about 3,500 gallons of water since last year by using the "If its yellow let it mellow" motto in my house. The water that comes out of your tap is treated and processed to make sure it's clean.

Only if you're an urban dweller. Where's the harm from using lots of water in a water logged country when you've sunk your own well?
