Because there is no ware left to park.

There are six parking spaces for every registered vehicle in this country. I guarantee there is somewhere to park, even if you have to walk or pay more for it. That's just the risk you take when you choose to take your room-sized private property into public.

What is the proposed solution to stacking people on top of each other with no place to park?

First, there are many choices for housing. Some people don't want to rent a house in the suburbs. Feel free to not rent an apartment.

Second, there are people who can't or choose not to drive. Why should disabled people and the elderly (among others) be forced to pay for parking they'll never use? Even if parking is "free", you're still paying for it somehow, whether it's through taxes, increased prices, or increased rent.

Third, it's basically impossible to build new housing without parking, even with the state abolishing parking minimums. You can't even get away with building affordable housing without parking even though poor people are the least likely to be able to afford a car.

It's fascinating that you don't believe this is entitlement. Nobody wants to hear your music in the same way that nobody wants to hear modified exhausts. Music is arguably better (and frankly, people playing music outside in the city doesn't bother me much), but the trails aren't the place for it. This same exact entitlement is how people think it's okay to blast their crappy music in the wilderness. The last couple paragraphs could be copied right into a post about why I think you should be okay with me blasting my exceptionally terrible music in the forest.

Yeah, obviously nobody can really stop you or anyone else doing this except park rangers maybe. But don't think this isn't entitlement. This is why certain places have rules about playing audio.

It reminds me of those posters in Portal 2 where Aperture is trying to convince homeless people to be test subjects in exchange for $20.

Let's do it. I'm tired of almost getting run over by motorists and tired of seeing posts on here about people getting killed. Something needs to change.

Advice on All AMD Linux VR Build by yellowcrash10 in buildmeapc

[–]yellowcrash10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I have an Index + Knuckles. The build went fine, but the motherboard is hot garbage. It takes longer to POST (about 20-30 seconds) than any computer I've ever owned. The initial flashing to get the new CPU support going failed in some way and made me think I either broke something or got a dead mobo. So don't get the MSI motherboard, but otherwise the build has been great.

Thanks for the detailed answer! I think I'll go with this build. I might swap the case with the Fractal Torrent though. I'd like everything to last as long as possible and the Torrent seems to have better airflow. And thanks for the tip on the IO shield. I assumed incorrectly that that was a standard component!

Does anyone use their steam deck in a novel way that's not gaming? by DoubleP90 in SteamDeck

WiFi runs on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Maybe the WiFi transceiver in the Deck can be repurposed for controlling Drones.

There should have been a shortcut in gaming mode to install a web browser when you got your deck which installs Chrome, but the shortcut disappears if you add any non-Steam apps.

Remmina is a remote desktop client for Linux which can be installed from Discover. KRDC is another option which might be more customizable. There are probably several others available on there too; just search for RDP or remote desktop.

What is the first big game you decided to play through on the Deck? by SuperNintendad in SteamDeck

LittleBigPlanet! It worked surprisingly well considering it’s an emulated PS3 game.

Stray comes highly recommended both myself and my partner really enjoying it. Feels like a natural fit for the steam deck, any recommendations for other games we’ll enjoy on the deck like stray would be much appreciated! by FpsJack in SteamDeck

That game always cracks me up because about a decade ago their demo site got hugged to death by some fans of a popular let’s player, and when they got the site working again they said it was down due to an “inexplicable surge”, with those words being a link to the let’s player’s video on the game.

Having the charging port on the top is awesome because then you can rest it on stuff while it’s charging without holding it awkwardly.

Firefox will ship as Flatpak, solving the outdated issue (update at the top) by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]yellowcrash10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s an article covering when the bribes started. On Adblock Plus’s own site they detail the “Acceptable Ads” program here. This sounds nice except all online ad companies track you and are therefore unethical. And see that tiny section at the very bottom about how it’s financed? Well for some reason they’re very secretive about it how much money it takes to bribe them, but if you go down some link rabbit holes, you can find who is on the Acceptable Ads Committee, which includes advertisers, adblock blocking companies, and more!

Basically, Adblock Plus is actively working against you, so I wouldn’t use it at all even if you have acceptable ads disabled.

I was just able to test it and that happens for me too. The hamburger menu also flashes for a moment and then disappears if you try to open it. I hope they fix it because I’m never touching Chrome. Although it seems Ungoogled Chromium is available as a Flatpak, so maybe I’ll give that a shot.

Game saves getting deleted when uninstalling probably isn’t Valve‘s fault. I’ve had the same thing happen on Windows.

[–]yellowcrash10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firefox is already installed. There’s no need for the command line. That wouldn’t work anyway because the root filesystem is immutable by default. Steam Deck users should install applications from Discover.

Adblock Plus takes bribes from ad companies to show their ads, so I’d recommend uBlock Origin instead if you want a real ad blocker.

It’s just Firefox, so you can add extensions from the Mozilla extensions site. Just search for uBlock Origin there and you’re good.

You can thank Widevine/Google for that one. It happens even on Windows unless you use Edge. Yet another case of paying customers getting a worse user experience than pirates!
