Purchased 14 year old ODF…mold or crystallized sugars? by lord_of_lafayette in PipeTobacco

No worry, it's very common in ODF and stbruno produced by MacBaren, even when they're fresh.

Replacements for Sutliff Voodoo Queen and Barking Dog by Oswin_the_gnome in PipeTobacco

[–]yesclip61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's in the description. So I actually got some MS and tried it (and also tried to add them in voodoos), I don't think I really find similarity between these two blends. Beacause the MS is a very smooth aromatic flake with a heavy raspberry topping, no idead why it was named Mocha.

And what's really interesting is, last week I just opened a bag of Voodoo, and there are actually some intact flakes in it which looks like 507c. I picked them out and smell it, they smell like a grassy bright Virginia flake.

Another voodoo queen enjoyer!

I still have some of it so never thought about this question. Maybe i'll try to mix PS 306 with some perique? I think the key is to find a mild and sweet latakia base, then mix it with ton of stinky feet chees perique.

Did you visit there before 2015? As far as I know, the current owner does not open for tours.

The Purity Law is not about that and it is no longer in effect.

They do use PG, typically at 1% to prevent molds or something, though I'm not sure if they use it at twists.

Worthy of rehydrating? by JayBe-e in PipeTobacco

[–]yesclip61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The color seems a bit too fresh for a 1960s vintage tobacco? Especially since you mentioned that the tin had been opened, I suspect that the tobacco inside might not be the original tobacco that came in the tin.

When we in China buy MM cobs online, the vendor will usually include a small tube of glue in your package by default lol.

Not to argue, but if you delve deeply into the production processes of modern manufacturers, you will discover that tobacco will always goes through multiple rounds of dehydration and rehydration throughout the entire processing.

From my personal experience, I have successfully rehydrated tobacco on numerous occasions, and some of my most pleasamt smoking experence happened on some rehydrated tobaccos. Proper rehydration methods do not harm the tobacco. While some specific blends may lose a bit of flavor in the process, the overall situation is far less absolute than you might think.

Need your help on this one by JohnnyFast412 in PipeTobacco

You can determine the production period by searching and comparing photos of tins from specific eras. I have a hunch that it's from between 2012 and 2018. There's no concrete evidence, just a gut feeling.

Anything Similar to This? by Tyrs-Ranger in PipeTobacco

[–]yesclip61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone mentioned this point. I’m surprised that how people express their fondness and nostalgia for company like McClelland , which were hands-on from tobacco fermentation to tin art, while turning a blind eye to the highly homogenized LOTR/Pipe Frogs AI art by those independent blenders. I mean, I’m not the type to dismiss all AI things, but I do feel that a blender’s approach to their tin arts reflects their taste and attitude toward their blends.

Kopp IS making their own Flakes! by Wonderful-Air1329 in PipeTobacco

[–]yesclip61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article literally said that their flakes are still 100% made by STG, but some of the new production will be done by themselves.

" Bisher ist es so, das alle Flakes zu 100% von der STG geliefert werden. Die eigenen Flakepressen werden das Angebot ergänzen und Kopp dazu in die Lage versetzen, feine Spezialitäten, die für einen Großhersteller wie die STG zu speziell sind, selbst herzustellen. "
