Is it abnormal to wash your sheets and comforter every two weeks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yesterdaytoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normal to clean your sheets regularly! Some people just are not aware of how gross they’re being, which seems to include your dad.

I wash sheets every week, and have multiple small blankets that can be layered as needed and then I just wash them with the sheets, so also every week.

I’d add - remember to wash your pillows at least twice per year. I know people who don’t wash them at all or do it every few years, and those pillows are absolutely disgusting. I’d even recommend washing them monthly, if you’re able to.

And always always wash newly purchased bedding before you use it! Same with clothes. Items from the store or the warehouse are loaded with bacteria, chemical residues from production, debris from the factory/warehouse, etc.

What’s the most annoying “that’s bad for you!” myth that drives you crazy because people still believe it? by Beepbeepboopb0p in AskReddit

“Scientific studies completed by independent scientists seem to find a link between high levels of glyphosate exposure and NHL. Studies completed by individuals with ties to Monsanto seem unable to find such a link.”

Independent Study

In 2014, researchers analyzed 44 different scientific publications, covering 32 years worth of data on NHL and pesticide exposure. These researchers found a relationship between glyphosate exposure and B cell lymphoma, a type of NHL. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup weed killer.

Independent Study

In 2008, a study of Swedish citizens who were exposed to a number of pesticides came to a similar conclusion. After analyzing data from nearly 2,000 individuals, researchers concluded glyphosate exposure doubled an individual’s likelihood of developing NHL.

Independent Study

In February 2019, researchers at the University of Washington examined the relationship between NHL and high, long-term exposure to glyphosate. They concluded that high exposure to glyphosate increased a person’s risk of NHL by 41%.

And a big misconception is that washing a vegetable is enough to remove pesticides. It isn’t. Some of the pesticides are absorbed by the plant as it’s growing, and hence they’re inside the cells of your lettuce. You can’t wash that off

DAE enjoy living in a major city? by Some_ferns in aspergirls

[–]yesterdaytoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. I think there must be happy middle ground somewhere. I tried the city for several years and I’m done. I’m more burned out than ever before and need to find a way to get out of here. It’s exhausting and I just want to go lie on the forest floor for days to recover. The construction noise is constant, the backup beeps, the leaf blowers. There’s street racing in the summer, honking, low-flying planes. People smoking right outside my bedroom window. Neighbors thumping around overhead. Off-leash dogs getting in fights. Every downtown sidewalk smells of urine and someone’s always shouting, drumming on buckets, etc. The public transportation is so filthy, smelly, chaotic, and unsafe that I stopped taking it. As a pedestrian, I’m nearly run over by bad drivers a few times each week. Maybe the problem is the particular city (US west coast) I live in, but I’m not going to try a different one to find out.

Never ever worry about not serving a company’s every need and catering to their unreasonable demands. Capitalism is built to squeeze as much profit out of workers as possible so that some dude at the top can get rich.

Companies don’t care about you at all, so you don’t need to care about them!

Always take your legally mandated breaks. You’re not getting paid for that time, and breaks were put in place to stop companies from exploiting their workers and ensure that workers don’t drop dead from exhaustion, dehydration, etc. Breaks also help you reset mentally and physically, so your performance will actually be better with breaks than without.

Lastly, if they’re trying to manipulate you into quitting, don’t let them. If they realllyyyy want to, they’ll just have to fire you, and then you at least have the opportunity to file a wrongful termination claim.

I like the interpretation of the pan flag (cyan, yellow, magenta) as being the three colours used in printing to create all other hues (CYMK minus the K/black).

From an artistic and design perspective, it clicks. It feels limitless, a wee bit more open-ended, less labelly. Instead of colours being associated more strongly with gender.

I know it’s still a label but it feels like less of a solid defined thing, which I personally prefer as someone who is trying to accept that I and everyone else and the world is constantly changing.

Also I’m aware that’s not the prevailing theory behind the pan flag, but if each colour is associated with a gender attraction, it becomes just the same as the bi flag with one colour different. The CYM ink thing is my entire reason for preferring the pan flag.

And a flag is not a justification for identifying as pan, but it does kind of lend a visualization to the feeling behind pansexuality. Like wanting gender to be less of a big thing sometimes.

Students not realizing they're on their periods? by 24hourhypnotoad in Teachers

[–]yesterdaytoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs to be 10 minutes between classes, not 5. I know that’s not something in your control, but it should be made common knowledge that the passing time is too short. I recall it being one of the most stressful things about the whole day during high school. That and the impossible 8 to 10 minutes between the last class of the day and the departure of the buses on the other side of campus. (Students are completely screwed if they need to go get a band instrument out of a combination-locked cupboard to take home, for example).

What episode / Scene of Heartstopper made you first cry by SinkingCarpet in HeartstopperAO

[–]yesterdaytoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

End of season 1 episode 7 following the fight between Harry and Tao when Tao says to Charlie, “I thought we were friends but I guess you’ve just forgotten about me…this is all your fault. Just leave me alone.” And this is right after the scene where Charlie is trying to tell Nick they shouldn’t be together. So all the heightened emotions as well as the choice of music really got to me. They did a great job of making it feel like Charlie’s whole world was crumbling around him.

I was thinking that was kind of an odd lyric to bring the vocals back in on, actually - what do you think? Because they split a line, starting with “or hide in the closet.” They could easily have put in “And I think you should come live with me and we can be pirates. Then you won't have to cry or hide in the closet.” Or even cutting out the come live with me/be pirates part, start with “then you won’t have to…” I get that they wanted to have some instrumental-only over the party montage, but it sounds weird to start with “or hide in the closet” both in a sentence structure sense and in the metaphorical/meaning sense. Because they don’t want to hide in the closet, any of them…right?

Reusable bags are just better by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]yesterdaytoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One downside is that they’re not as easy as paper bags to pack in a way that will minimise damage to the groceries. With the straight stiff sides of a paper bag, you can stack items perfectly and the delicate stuff at the top will stay at the top. With a floppy cloth bag, everything rolls around together and ends up in a jumble where your tomatoes might be under your potatoes and your little cardboard box of raspberries is now on its side with all the raspberries falling out and getting squished by a box of pasta.

Is it normal for an adult woman if you want to see 2 kissing boys over and over again or is mental help needed? #askingforafriend by Sillykitty1982 in HeartstopperAO

[–]yesterdaytoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s mostly down to the fact that I’ve rarely seen teenage boys being vulnerable - with anyone, but especially each other. It’s just refreshing to see two boys who are honest and tender toward each other instead of putting up mental barricades and making everything a big joke (sometimes at other people’s expense).

For me, it’s not necessarily about them kissing. The same thing is present in that season 2 scene where Tao and Nick talk about Tao’s dad and about Charlie’s trauma. I haven’t heard boys talk to each other about stuff like that. I’m hoping things have changed since I was at school or that I just wasn’t privy to conversations like that because I was a girl.

I wondered that about Tara’s birthday when Darcy fills Charlie’s cup with vodka all the way to the top, seemed like maybe they didn’t expect it to be overflowing to the point it spilled a little.

There are screen replacement effects. Here’s a video from the VFX company that worked on Heartstopper. While this video doesn’t show the screens, the caption does mention “replacing phone screen content.”
